Book Description

February 1, 2009
Jen Peters and Ginger Highland, a couple of real-life moms, share 76 stories from mother, fathers and grandparents who've survived embarrassing potty moments, rad trips gone bad, school mishaps, bedroom blunders and other parenting situations. They introduce the book by pointing out that as new parents attempt to navigate through the ups and downs of parenthood, they sometimes find themselves saying and doing things they never thought they would. Instead of laughing at those mistakes, many then assume they have failed as parents and think their children are destined for therapy. "Years ago," Jen and Ginger say, "we realized how healthy and hilarious it was to discuss our stories with our friends. Tears turned into laughter and we felt normal again. Our Mother of the Year writing adventure began."

5.0 out of 5 stars Humorous book that I read to my 8-year-old son March 15, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Although there are parts that are definitely on the "inappropriate for kids" side, my 8-year-old son really liked hearing the short stories while we were in a doctor's waiting room. So I ordered the book, and he's enjoyed having it read to him. I think it's giving him some real insight into adults' thinking on parenting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some Things Never Change! April 15, 2009

Format:Paperback
Okay, this book is exactly what it says it is: The adventures and misadventures of parenthood. This isn't the cute little book of generations ago, it's the cute little book of the now generation. After reading it...and having some laughs (I can laugh, my kids are all grown-up!)... I decided that it was nice to know that moms still have the age-old embarrassing moments when their kids do or say something...umm...spectacular. I doubt there's much in this book that is new to the universe, just to the surprised and unsuspecting new parent. I think the authors were very smart to come up with a book derived from hanging out with other mothers and enjoying their stories. This is an easy and fun read and would definitely make a great Mother's Day gift or a baby shower gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! April 14, 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have enjoyed giving "Mother of the Year" to several friends who are first time mothers at their baby showers. I think sometimes as mothers we get so worked up about doing things the "right way" and making things perfect that we don't take time to chuckle at the embarassing "not so right" things that happen in regular ol' daily life. This book is a great gift for a girlfriend - perfect for a mothers day treat or something fun to bring mom to a one year old bday party. Great, fun, read:)

How normal this book made me feel......I so related to the stories and to put them all in one totally funny book...how creative. I would recommend this book to all those mommies out there that need a laugh! Parenthood can be so overwhelming, so why not share the funny stories that happen to the best of us. Great gift for girlfriends...I bought one for each of my sisters and they LOVED it!

Mother of the Year by Jen Peters and Ginger Highland is a delicious read for anyone who has ever experienced the bare-faced verity of children. The book is a treasure cove of anecdotes that will have you in stitches while at the same time feeling better about your own mishaps in parenting. From the wine at "Play Dates" to the "Trojans" for dad, Mother of the Year is a must read book for anyone embarking on the adventure of raising children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh out Loud April 1, 2009
Format:Paperback
I had many great belly laughs while reading this book........I think it is the perfect book for 1st time moms. It is so stressful at first with all the books we read telling us HOW TO DO EVERYTHING......TMI!!!!!....what did our moms do without the "How to" books.....they survived just fine. However, what first time moms DO NEED is some comic relief to remind them not to take this motherhood thing too seriously and have fun! Laughing at mishaps in life is so important for an individual's well being..........and I did a lot of laughing through this fun and easy read. Thank you to the authors!

What a charming book! It's funny that when you look back on your life, the little, uncomfortable moments are the ones you tenderly remember and are so funny in retrospect. I thought this book did a great job of capturing those moments from a mother's perspective. This book makes a great gift for all the "moms" in your life!
