I have never read Dennis Fisher before but I liked everything about this book. Compelling story, good characters, lots of action and a sobering finish. I couldn't find any other books by him but I'll be looking because this was a great read and I want more.

Wow, I have had this book sitting in my Kindle for a few months before I started reading it because I have a problem... if I like a book and it pulls me in, I can't stop reading it. (Which is sometimes a problem since I have kids, a job, other responsibilities, etc...) So, I finally opened this book up two days ago, and had to finish it last night because it was too exciting to put down.

The book is great. You get the feeling in the first 25 pages of the book what's going on, and how the mystery might be solved. And yet, you are confused, there aren't enough pieces in the puzzle yet, so you're not sure. This goes on right up until the last 50 pages or so when things finally come to a head.

The character development is great. I am really looking forward to the next book starring Danny Tobin, as he is presented as a compelling, yet troubled figure. And it was nice to hear about some areas in Virginia I know, some areas in Massachusetts I've visited, and of course a little bit of security and hacking here and there which is always appealing to me.

Bottom line is, get this book and read it. It's entertaining, exciting, and will be hard to put down.

Read this between two different flights earlier this week. Totally absorbing book of the old fashioned murder mystery genre. Solidly written, great plot, some good twists, and doesn't get hung up on any technology that Dennis Fisher is known for writing about at his "day job".

Strongly recommend this book.

If you live in Massachusetts, specifically on Cape Cod or in the New Bedford area you will love this book. Set in and around the cranberry bogs of Plymouth, Dennis Fisher has crafted a fast paced mystery with a well crafted plot, interesting clearly defined characters and witty, but believable dialogue. I was into this book from the first page and finished it in two settings. Danny Tobin, the protagonist is a complex charatcter whose life experience has lead him to operate in and out of the boundries of his job as a Massachusetts State Police Homicide Dectective. Danny is not as likeable as Robert Parker's Spencer, but in many ways he is a more real character. I sometimes liked him and often did not, but by the end of the book, I was hoping that Dennis Fisher has a series planned for Danny. Near the conclusion of the book there is a suggestion that Danny might be moving out of Massachusetts. I hope not. There needs to be another mystery series set in Massachusetts. The beautiful and sometimes eerie environment of Cape Cod, I think, provides a rich setting for a series much like Florida does for James Hall's main character, Thorn. This book is an enteraining read at any time, but I would especially recommend it for your summer reading list especially if you are vacationing on Cape Cod.

I read lots of fiction, but not much of it is fast-paced, hardboiled crime stuff. I am more of a literary fiction type, leaning toward T.C. Boyle, Milan Kundera, David Mitchell, and the like. Boy was it fun to read this book!

I venture to say if you are a fan of fast-paced thrillers, you'll totally dig this book. It is snappily written with a clear, consistent (if not quirky) voice. And it's a page turner for sure.

As a computer security guy, I particularly enjoyed all of the references to various inside jokes and knowledge. I'm sure that avid runners will feel the same about the running content.

Buy this book and read it at the beach.

I must recuse myself as we know Dennis Fisher as the former college roommate of our son. That caveat is necessary as I was a little hesitant to read it at my sons request - Wow, was I ever surprised. This book is non-stop action, grabbed both my husband and I from the getgo while we were travelling in Costa Rica and we both found ourselves grabbing for it every quiet moment we had. Dennis has really nailed the ability to hook you in chapter 1 and keep you riveted to the end. He threw in quite a few unexpected twists which just made us all the more eager to continue reading, including the denouement. We can't wait for his next book to come out - way to go Dennis!

What a great read. Dennis does a good job building the plot and narrative, and the characters don't try to be so complex that you get lost. The book starts fast, keeps going, and never really loses the pace. Kind of reminds me of the "Parker" series - there's crime, there's some ugliness, there's some folks you like and root for (good OR bad), and before you know it, the book's over. Need a good book for the beach this summer? I can't recommend it enough.
