5.0 out of 5 stars An inspiration to women of all ages
I am a 19 year old college student from upstate New York, and I hopefully have a few more years until I have a husband and a family, but I just wanted you to know that I enjoyed The Mother Load from cover to cover. The book caught my eye because I loved your television series and your talk show. It was so funny that I couldn't put it down! I think it's great that the...

2.0 out of 5 stars Funny at times, but makes parenthood look depressing...
The authors can be very clever, but most of the jokes seem to come at the expense of the children that they created and raised. Is parenthood really this much of an unpleasant chore, and are women STILL stuck in such stereotypical roles? Not in my circles. If you don't have children, beware, this book could scare you away from parenting.

The book caught my eye because I loved your television series and your talk show. It was so funny that I couldn't put it down! I think it's great that the two of you were willing to share personal stories to inspire other women. I just wanted to let you know that it's not only wives and mothers who read your book. I think your book is an inspiration for women of all ages. I'm looking forward to the next one! Thank you very much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could not stop laughing!, January 11, 1999

This review is from: The Motherload: When Your Life's on Spin Cycle and You Just Can't Get the Lid up (Hardcover)
Three friends; seven kids (girls-4,5,6 & 9...boys-4,5 & 8) were at a backyard pool. One friend starts reading "The Mother Load" to pass the time. She could not stop laughing out loud. In order to be in on the humor we made her read out loud. We had such a good time. Each of us took turns reading aloud while the kids swam. When we would take a break we'd share our own stories. We have never had so much fun and related to most of your tales. The "nirvana mommie" was hilarious. We planned to pass the book around, but it's so much more fun to read it aloud with your best friends. We are looking forward to seeing what you are up to next.

5.0 out of 5 stars A hilarious yet thoughtful look at being a mom in the '90s, July 14, 1998

This review is from: The Motherload: When Your Life's on Spin Cycle and You Just Can't Get the Lid up (Hardcover)
These women have an incredibly funny and fun view on parenting and relationships in today's world. I could not put the book down. I ended up feeling refreshed and even comforted to know that I was not alone in my travails as a mom.

1.0 out of 5 stars Two bitter women, September 9, 2000
By
Martin Black (Overland Park, KS) - See all my reviews
My wife picked up this book somewhere. I took a look through it, and was surprised at the bitterness that passes for humor. Such scheming and mental manipulation of family members I have never seen openly joked about in print this way. The co-writers mistakenly assume that most other woman are like them. They need to stop congratulating themselves on their own cleverness and concentrate on the positivity in life--or they should get some help.
