Moms speak out,
By Chris Bridges "C. A. Bridges" (FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Mother's Guide to Sex: Enjoying Your Sexuality Through All Stages of Motherhood (Paperback)
Most books on sex that address pregnancy and parenthood will tell you that the loss of desire is perfectly normal, or just give you safe positions. Semans and Winks go much, much farther than by assuring you that damn near every possible way you can react sexually during pregnancy is normal, and they back it up with quotes from the thousands of people who answered their surveys. Beautifully designed, this book does not provide tacky illustrated positions. It does tell you about self-images, self-esteem, desire and how it changes differently for everybody, sex at all points in your pregnancy (and after), and even tips on how and when to talk to your kids about sex. This is just the reassurance necessary for the new mom who's convinced that no one else ever felt the way she does. Well, guess what...

May Possibly Conflict With Moral Beliefs,
By A Customer
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Mother's Guide to Sex: Enjoying Your Sexuality Through All Stages of Motherhood (Paperback)
Depending on your moral or religious convictions, you may find this book in conflict with them. I ordered the book based on the reccomendation of a friend, but found it not very helpful because many of the things suggested violate my moral & religious principles. Some examples: strong encouragement to practice extensive masturbation, use of pornography, use of vibrators and sex toys, the authors' stated conviction that "monogamy is boring" [I haven't found it so, wish I had the time and energy to jump my hubby every single night], etc. It also might be worth noting that both authors spent 10 years working in a sex shop selling vibrators and sex toys - they have a *very* permissive perspective on sex, in my opinion. I expected more help in the practicalities - I haven't lost my sex drive, I just seldom have any energy or time to cater to it, which I find frustrating. I expected more on how to balance life with children and less on practices that aren't an option for me. I'd really have appreciated more suggestions on making an opportunity to enjoy sex with my sexy husband instead of advice to masturbate more often. This is not a criticism of *anyone's* morals or sexual beliefs. For a person with a different frame of reference, this book would probably be extremely useful. But I do think it is worth noting that some women might find it less useful [or downright offensive depending on how strict their beliefs are]. Those buyers should beware - this isn't the book for you.

What a wonderful book. Most mothers have hardly any time to read, so if a book manages to grab your attention - you know it's got to be good. I literally can't put this book down! I love the way the book feels - its presentation and easy accesiblity - how the authors manage to be so informative and educational in a way that is both entertaining and light.

I recommend this book to my clients,
This review is from: The Mother's Guide to Sex: Enjoying Your Sexuality Through All Stages of Motherhood (Paperback)
The Mother's Guide to Sex provides pertinent information to mothers and their partners. It covers important issues ranging from conception to the challenge of addressing sexuality issues with teenagers. The authors devote an entire chapter to how and why sexual desire may decrease as the family grows. After all, low sexual desire is one of women's most frequent concerns. In their casual style, Semans and Winks offer various solutions on how to adjust to these changes; and for those interested, they provide suggestions on how to rekindle passion. Another chapter describes the special challenges that single mothers may meet. I am not familiar with other books having incorporated this topic, making this Guide to Sex useful for women in a variety of settings. I recommend the book to anyone considering starting a family and to individuals who already have children.

Required reading for all moms-to-be,
By Cassie (Pregoville) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Mother's Guide to Sex: Enjoying Your Sexuality Through All Stages of Motherhood (Paperback)
This book is a bit hard to find now, but it's worth the effort. It's one of the few books that explains how pregnancy and motherhood may affect the amount of action you see in the bedroom. (Think feast or famine, depending on what stage of pregnancy and motherhood we're talking about.) A must-read for all moms and moms-to-be.

Best Book for Moms and Moms to Be,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Mother's Guide to Sex: Enjoying Your Sexuality Through All Stages of Motherhood (Paperback)
I found out that I was pregnant at the same time that I saw the book in the store. It has so far been invaluable throughout the pregnancy, acknowledging the changes I've been experiencing and still allowing me to explore and find a place for my sexual pleasure. I've already read all the parts about AFTER the baby's born, and can't wait to apply their sex-positive ideas to my own little one in a few years. Thank you, Anne and Cathy! Whether you're a mom-to-be or have kids of your own, this book is for you. Buy it today. Makes a great baby shower gift, too.

My friend who is a few weeks ahead of me in her pregnancy gave me The Mother's Guide to Sex ... it is SO amazing ... it reoriented me, and the stuff about teaching kids about their bodies and sexuality was brilliant.
