I first bought this in 1973 from a LaLeche League group when my 4th child was expected. Money was tight, we had hungry kids, and I poured over recipe books and magazines for good, cheap foods. This book answered all my needs-the 'No Excuse' bread and it's variations became family favorites. As my daughters married and had children, the book was passed back and forth, and, somewhere along the line, disappeared. I was very excited to find it on Amazon! Yea!

This cook book is simple. Some meals can be made in 30 minutes or less. It was tested by the families. I had this book when my children were growing up and so I ordered one for each of my daughters. It has meatball and vegetables recipe that you can make in 30 minutes that is a whole meal in itself. Or how about bread simple things to make that are good for you everything doesn't need to come from a box. Not that the box is bad but this is just is good and cheaper.

As a retired LLL Leader, I was very familiar with this cookbook. Mine had long ago disappeared, as I loaned it out to many other mothers. I remember making many, many recipes from this book. As a very inexperienced cook; my first attempts at making anything from scratch came from this book. I was a canned anything, instant everything kind of cook. Not until I became a mother and LLL became a part of my life did I even think that there was another way to cook. "The Need to Knead" on page 103-104 inspired me to try to make homemade bread with my children. My favorite recipe is on page 105 - "No Excuse Bread". The book has been long out of print, and LLL had sponsored many other excellent cookbooks since. But this was the first bound, published cookbook from LLL; and it held many wonderful memories for me. I am so glad that I found copies on Amazon, and so thankful to the mothers of LLL who contributed their recipes so long ago. It was lovingly put together by mothers from all over the country. I know that you will find a recipe or many to love from this book.
