4.0 out of 5 stars "Peace" painted in 1917, during WWI, August 13, 2001
This review is from: Mother's Memories: Photo Albums (Stationery)
The cover of "A Mother's Photo Album" is a detail from "Peace" by Frederick Carl Frieseke. It shows a woman sewing next to a baby's bed. The baby was my mother, Frances Frieseke, who was about three years old - too old for the bed, and old enough to remember the modeling session, which she describes in her memoirs of France in wartime, "It's Only the Cannon." Frieseke had to chide his model for jumping when the cannon boomed. The cover is beautiful, and the book may be tied shut with pink gross-grain ribbon. There's no statement as to its suitability for archival preservation of photos, and the openings are an odd size - 3 x 4.5" with slight cropping. Nevertheless, this would make a lovely gift for a new mother, or for Mothers' Day.
