Product Description

Going back for her baby

Winnie Porter just couldn't forget the child she'd given up for adoption all those years ago...or the wonderful family that had taken him in. Now it was finally time to see her son one last time.

Still reeling from his wife's untimely death, the last thing Aidan Black needed to deal with was the unwed mother who brought his beloved Robbie into the world. Especially when she was all grown up into a beautiful, vivacious young woman who'd immediately drawn his boy into her spell--not to mention Aidan himself. Would Winnie's secret shatter Aidan's family--or make it whole again?

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, entertaining, heartfelt book., August 10, 2009

I only read this book because it got a RITA award for 2008. I'm glad it got the award--it deserved it! Well, I don't know what books were up against it, but I do know that this was a great book. The author has a great sense of humor and everyone has their own unique "voice"--even the dog! Lovely book, I'll be reading more by this author.

The story is about a young woman who years ago gave up her child for adoption. It was supposed to be an "open adoption" but she realized after 6 months that she couldn't take little piecemeal bits of her kid--it was too painful. So she made a clean break. Some years later, she feels a "push" to look in on the kid again, just to make sure he's okay. She has no intention of meddling. Unbeknownst to her, the wonderful adoptive couple she chose is one person short--the mother died the year before, and the husband and son haven't yet recovered from the grief. Of course she ends up getting involved in their struggles, even though almost every day she plans to leave--but something always gets in her way. Almost like cosmic intervention. You'll have to read the book to find out how it ends.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the better books in the series, September 2, 2011

This is one of the stronger entries in the Wed in the West series. The description on the back may make it sound like Winnie is always about to leave but circumstances intervene, but it's not done in a contrived way. The characters are three-dimensional, and I think you will enjoy getting to know them as they get to know each other. Nice beach or summer evening read.

More About the Author

I'm a multi-published romance/women's fiction author for Harlequin/Silhouette and Red Dress Ink who loves to write about real people dealing with the drama (and humor) of everyday life. I've been a voracious reader since I was four, still manage to read a book or two a week despite having five sons and a full-time writing career.

My 'reviews' are more 'recommendations', since I don't post reviews about books that don't ring my chimes. I tend to be drawn to women's fiction and mainstream family drama most often, with some mysteries tossed in for balance. For a book to 'work' for me, I have to find the characters appealing and believeable; the prose must be compelling and well-crafted; and it doesn't hurt if there's a good dollop of humor somewhere along the line.

Fave authors include Jeanne Ray, Terry McMillan, Anne Tyler, Janet Evanovitch, Curtiss Ann Matlock, Marsha Moyers, Marion Keyes, Sophie Kinsella, Jennifer Crusie, and Susan Elizabeth Phillips.
