Limited Range, volume too loud,
By Kris Q "Kris Q" (Connecticut) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Motion Detector with Remote Alarm
For safety reasons, my sister and I take turns monitoring my father throughout the night. So we purchased this motion detector to alert us remotely as soon as he swung his legs over the side of the bed. When the alarm goes off, we can look at a Lorex monitor to see if needs assistance. We specifically looked for a remote alert so he would not be startled when he set it off. We chose THIS alarm because of the remote alarm feature at a very reasonable price.on the plus side: it chimes the instant it detects motion so we can immediately view the Lorex LW2003 LIVE snap Video Baby Monitor (White) to see if he needs help. The Amazon partner shipped immediately and the price was great. on the down side: the range is pretty terrible -- 30 feet at best, not the 100 feet we were looking for -- and the low volume setting is very loud. Because we have to place it much closer to him for the alarm to work and the volume is so very loud, this means that when we have it set, the person on watch has to leap out of bed and run to shut off the alarm until he is back in bed because it continues to chime until the detector part's path is clear again. Since he sits up several times during the night without necessarily needing assistance, that means WE are leaping out of bed as many times as he sits up. As his health has improved :-), he has made the connection that he hears a bell every time he swings his legs over the side of the bed -- and was somewhat annoyed! But, also since he's improved, we don't feel it's as important to monitor him as closely either. It's been a nice trade off. I am shopping for a new alarm, though: one we can place much farther away and hopefully with a softer alarm. As a real aside, there's something about the chime that "stays in my head"! (Happens with my sister as well.) For whatever reason, it's almost like we can hear it ringing long after it's actually stopped!!

This is a simple and inexpensive solution to the problem of monitoring my elderly Mother at night, so we know at once if She starts to get out of bed while we are sleeping. If you are caregiving for an Altzheimers or Dementia patient I highly reccomend this product. The remote alarm unit works perfectly on the other side of my home from my Mothers bedroom. |
