The unit has good motion detection and that is about all. The instructions do not work for the unit setup so you have to call Support. Support is good however. The really bad thing is the camera resolution. My three year old cell phone camera has better resolution. The video is washed out if the subject wears a white or light colored shirt. Anything within 8 feet or so is washed out. Beyond 12-15 feet the video poorly renders the subject.

This motion light is great!! Not only that it turns on the light when it detects motion, it also records a video clip on an SD card. Not an HD video, but good enough to identify the intruder and see the sorroundings.
You can choose to have 2 different warning voice announcement or a barking sound. You can select to have either the light, video and sound during the day and/or night.
It has 3 AAA batteries as time stamp and video recording backup in case of power failure.
It has a red LED indicator to let you know when the batteries are low.
It has another indicator light to tell you the status of the SD card.
Super easy instructions (someone said something negative about the instructions on another review. Maybe they had an old version or "something").
Good quality materials and craftsmanship.
I hightly recommend it. Instead of just spending the money on a simple motion light, you can get video and sound features.
The only issue that I had is they do not supply software for Widows Vista 64-bit.
I had to use my old laptop with XP to set up the correct date and time.
The program that came in the SD card is setup_1109 for Windows XP, but you can go to their website and download the one for Vista. Unfortunately this program is only for Vista 32 bit and not for my new computer wich uses Vista 64 bit.
This program that contains the driver is used to set up the correct date and time. Without it, the unit will still record the same way, but is going to show the incorrect date and time on the video clip.

I have owned this light for 1 year now and i am very happy with it.Setup time was about an hour,and everything went smooth.I wanted to wait on my review to see how happy i was with this,and i can say that this is a great home security defense item to have.This device has a real good halogen light on it,and comes with a powerful 500 watt light in it.It also have 3 preset audio announcements with a built in speaker as well.A dog barking,warning you our trespassing,or another greeting which i can't remember off hand.The best feature on this though is the low profile video camera built into it.Its right above the PIR sensor and it works great.Once you setup the date(I recommend a laptop to set the date/time) you put in the SD card and it'll start recording 20 second video clips.
So when your out and not home this will record anything that sets of the sensor.The videos our decent as well, and records in 640x480 AVI format.You can use windows media or realplayer to play it back.I actually use a Linux OS and use totem movie player,which lets me take pictures from the video.All in ALL i recommend this light and you won't go wrong with it,once you get it installed & running properly.It comes with a 1 gb SD card ,but i highly recommend a 2gb card so you'll get at least 30 days recording out of it.

I have the same problems. The first camera worked great, so we bought a second. The second camera only records until the card is full then stops. Also, I cannot get the cameras to display the correct date/time stamp. I have called and emailed "support" for answers and never get a response. I would not recommend these to anyone who can't pull the card on a weekly basis to reset it when it is full.

I bought this same unit at Sams for under $30 and it wasn't even worth that amount. The instructions were completely worthless and absolutely wrong in most areas. The actual hardware was of poor quality...the screws were so soft that they immediately stripped. The housing did not have enough room for the internal wires, so you couldn't shut the unit together on the final step. On top of it all, the camera quality is very low quality. This unit is a horrible product. Please stay away.

I have had the Smart-Guard Motion Light with Video Camera for 3 years. It has and continues to operate without any major problems. I only wish I had installed a local switch to turn it off when working at night in my driveway. It can be very annoying hearing "You are being recorded by a Security Camera" every 20 seconds. The dog barking is lame. Wished I could record my own alert.
The sensor needs to be fine tuned and tested, so your neighbors can walk peaceably down your sidewalk and you don't need to record every car driving past your house. For sure get a 2 GIG SD Card because last weekend my 1 GIG card was maxed out recording the entire garage sale we were having. I guess my settings were wrong. Daylight recordings were excellant, but didn't need to record the whole garage sale Ha !

I found three Minor problems with this unit. 1) Camera Resolution is very low and grainey at night and this is very dependent upon how far the quartz light will reach. 2)I lost the software on the SD card and could not locate their website or anything on the Internet to download. So I am not able to have Date and Time with each recording. IF ANYONE HAS A GOOD LINK PLEASE POST. 3)This next problem I caused myself. Set yours up in a temporary location and view the area it records to insure you are watching areas you want. I made the mistake of permanently mounting it centered over my garage. This is not a good idea because the light and camera records,for a very short time, their face but mostly the back of their heads as they walk up to the front door.
If I could find another one for the $70 I originally paid I would set in up near my front door.

i've had this unit for over a year now and the camera no longer works.

this sucks because i just had someone steal a bike from right in front of the camera and i quickly took the sd card out to view the video and video no longer records anything.

total Junk after a year

Item is functional but price is outrageous. This item was sold at Sam's Club for under 100.00. I bought 2 of them and one caught on fire, tried to contact the company because of consumer safey issues and could never reach anyone. Supoort is non existent. Buy at your own risk

I did purchase this item but after the purchase found out that the company is no longer in operation. Their telephone is non responsive and the website also.

It's an outstanding idea for a product but if you don't have the driver information (required) the item becomes a high priced motion detector only. I thought I could go online and download the required driver but it's just not there. I also checked with the BBB and they have no records on this company either. Although, the instruction book states that they are in the United Kingdom, the BBB states Dallas, TX

You may have to purchase a card reader/writer for approx. 20.00 like I did if you have an older computer.

I will never know how clear the pictures turned out without the driver.

If you know of anyone who has the driver willing to email me the download info, I would appreciate it.

I just hope in these times I didn't lose this money without trying everything possible to obtain the driver.

And if I have to purchase another surveillance camera I will because it is so needed in these times.

Stay clear of this item.

We also bought this product at Sam's. While it went together and installed fine, the video quality certainly leaves much to be desired. We actually bought two of these. One will go back record over old video clips once the memory card is full (which is what it is supposed to do). But the other camera stops recording once the card is full, which in our case only took about a week. Not very convenient, because it was full by the time what we wanted to record happened.
