I really enjoy this show as it is a different way of approaching the usual crime drama. No spoilers here - you need to watch an episode yourself.

Motive is one of the best imports from Canada on American TV. The acting, writing and editing are OUTSTANDING. I hope more people tune into it on ABC Wednesdays, in order to maintain it for more years to come.

And "Motive" is the perfect example of why. Bell Media is making inroads with all its shows as summer programming (I have enjoyed several), but this show is the kind of quality show that should be scheduled for fall or spring with better promotional treatment. The premise gives the "murder of the week" genre a truly innovative twist; the characters are fascinating, smart, and human; and the actors, without exception, make me look forward to seeing the characters each week. The quality is on a par with mainstream U.S. TV programming. (Much of which is filmed in CANADA!)

The same could be said of the actors and quality of that other outstanding BM show, "Orphan Black," and I just cannot understand why Hollywood continues to stick it's nose up at excellent, profitable programming just because it comes to us from north of the border rather than across the pond. Its ratings are respectable and consistent, which is notable as this is usually only true of cable programs - and reality shows - in summer. I'd lay odds that the ratings would increase in fall or spring, especially if it was promoted and slotted appropriately.

Don't let the pedigree stop you, this is an excellent program. If it had been on Netflix, rather than treated as "summer filler," it might've had Emmy consideration! (It has won a number of awards in Canada.) Highly recommended.

A terrific series with a new perspective. The killer and the victim are shown in the first moments going about their daily lives. During the course of the program, the police not only solve the murder, but discover the motive behind it. Plots unravel at a fast pace, and are shown in flashback.

The detectives are human, likable, humorous, and though attractive, not glammed up. The two leads have a nice rapport, though Detective Flynn, an irrepressible working class single mother, is the focus as are the supporting players and their very human and misguided motivations for committing the crimes.

I generally like 90 minute British crime series, and especially if the story line continued over two or more episodes, so I was convinced that no proper story line could be developed in 40 minutes. I was wrong. The writing is so tight, and the stories so well thought out, that there is not a single wasted moment-and yet it is not fast paced like US series which so often rely on gun play and car chases to build suspense. Neither does it exclusively rely on forensic evidence but rather the interview skills and intuition of the detectives, who understand human motivations and foibles well. Highly entertaining.

This is one of the best shows on television. The writing pops, the actors are first-rate, and the cinematography and editing are stunning. Definitely a must see.

This show is actually quite scary on a philosophical level. It demonstrates just how easily any of us, if properly provoked, could commit a crime. We all have pride, jealousy, or ambitions that can be our down falling, and if Detective Angie Flynn is on the case we will get caught. Kristine Lehman does a great job as Detective Flynn, the lead detective in this series. As she figures out the motive behind each case, it is like we can see what she is thinking, as if we are right with her in her thought process as she works out the case. It is a most enjoyable series. Sure hope there will be a Season 3.

I like this show because it is twisted up:). It shows the murder first and who is the victim and the perpetrator. Then it goes back and shows how things built up to the committing of the actual murder. A different take on the regular crime drama; though I still have to say that I do like trying to figure out who did it from watching regular mysteries and crime shows. The two main characters of this show work well together and also come across as believable.

I really love this show. I find myself thinking about the endings long after the episode is over. There's something about the stories that's 'noir'-ish and sad, but murder IS sad after all, and most detective shows gloss over the tragedy to focus on finding the killer. With the focus on motive, tragedy is front and center. I like how this show doesn't glamorize crime. It understands it.
