4.0 out of 5 stars An awesome and excellent Motley Crue DVD
Motley Crue's new "Carnival of Sins-Live" DVD is the best Motley Crue DVD there is--by far.

Motley Crue's new "Carnival of Sins-Live" DVD is the best Motley Crue DVD there is--by far.

This is a two disc DVD,and while it is not perfect,it is really good and solid. It opens up with a very funny and short cartoon on how Motley Crue got back together, and once you have seen the cartoon for the show/Motley Crue's getting back together and going on a tour(which Motley used on all of their shows;I saw The Crue at their concert at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis)the concert on this DVD opens up with a great version of "Shout At The Devil '97"(note that the back of the DVD specifies it as the original SATD,but if you are a die hard Motley fan,you will notice that The Crue are playing Shout '97 at the beginning of this concert that is on this DVD,NOT the original Shout). This whole concert finds Motley Crue playing (mostly)their hits/fan favorites from the 80's("Girls,Girls,Girls","Dr. Feelgood","Live Wire","Ten Seconds To Love","Home Sweet Home",etc.)with the addition of two Motley songs from the 90's("Primal Scream" and half of the ballad "Glitter"),their two new original songs off of their "Red,White, and Crue" anthology album("If I Die Tommorow" and "Sick Love Song")as well as two cover songs("Helter Skelter" and "Anarchy In The U.K."). Note the fact that this concert was made as a film,it looks like a concert that is a movie, and while I would have just preferred a concert, the whole movie/concert concept into one theme was a really good idea that works here. The camera does switch back from the band to the audience too often at the beginning of this concert/film but gets better at focusing on the band towards the end of the DVD,and the live performances of the songs on here are really good(Motley Crue were being honest when they said that they still do have energy left in them)! Nikki Sixx's bass solo and Tommy Lee's drum solo are quite impressive, and not only are Motley Crue able to keep this DVD entertaining by not only playing most of their best material live and doing a great job at it,the midget onstage(who is sort of a mini Vince Neil)is hillarious and is a good supplement to the whole concert/film. It is also pretty cool to see aerialists on stage accompanying "The World's Most Infamous Rock Band"(especially during the live performances of "Girls,Girls,Girls" and "Ten Seconds To Love"). This whole concert/film is pretty cool, but the highlights for me would have to be 1)Nikki Sixx dressed like a mad scientist while he is doing his bass solo,2)Tommy Lee's drum solo and his "fan cam"(wait until you see that),and 3)seeing the guys in Motley Crue dressed as military guys while they perform "Helter Skelter" and "Anarachy In The U.K."(which are the last two songs they performed for the concert that is on this DVD).

There are a lot of bonus feautures on disc two of this DVD,which made me really happy. There is a documentary on Motley Crue's 2005 tour,a behind the scenes look at when Tommy Lee brings his "fan cam" onstage(I'd tell you about it,but it is something that will seem more funny if you buy this DVD and see it for yourself),a short, hillarious, cartoon movie called "Meet & Greet'Disaster! The Movie'Blow It Up" on Motley Crue, and there are three new music videos here. These videos are the time lapse view video for "On With The Show","If I Die Tommorow",and the "clean" video for "Sick Love Song". All of these videos are very cool(especially the time lapse video for "On With The Show",which is both very cool and very creative)and while I am a little dissaspointed that BOTH the clean AND the unclean video for "Sick Love Song" are NOT on this DVD(I am glad to have the SLS video here;it is just there was an unclean video for SLS that you can see very far back on www.motley.com;my point is that it would have helped Crue fans out to watch both the unclean and the clean video for SLS whenever they wanted to instead of going very far back on the Motley Crue website to see the unclean SLS video if they wanted to see it)but other than that,I am not complaining. I like getting to have loads of bonus feautures on disc two of this DVD and getting to see Vince,Nikki,Tommy, and Mick Mars all talk about this whole tour/DVD is really cool(Motley Crue are really the best band there is when it comes to leaving their fans happy). This DVD also has a nice poster that has pictures of Motley Crue from the COS tour accompanying it,which is nice to have here, and despite it's little flaws, this DVD is very awesome overall. Anyway, thank you for reading my review of this, have a great day,and don't forget....Motley Crue rules!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!, July 29, 2005

Based on what I have seen and heard this LOOKS and SOUNDS fantastic. Yeah, the camera shots are active and change fast... but much of the concert is packed with toughness and adrenaline, it actually makes some sense that the shots match it in being active as well. Sound-wise, this is the best the Crue have ever sounded live... this looks to me like a must own DVD. If you are looking for a DVD to give you an example of suspect quality... check out the new Twisted Sister one... now that one looks and sounds cheap and sloppy. This one looks like a gem... the only negative I see is its not out for another 2 months. Final thoughts, boy is it good having Tommy back... the drumming is excellent and it really adds so much to the songs. Vince is sounding better than he has in 20 years... and the guitar sound on this DVD is monsterously good... compare it to the Lewd Crued and Tatooed DVD of a few years back and you will really see how much better this version is!!! Its nice to see another band and not just KISS putting on a show that is actually worthy of the price of modern concert tickets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, Fun DVD, September 10, 2006
I love this DVD. I watch it all the time. Sometimes I just put it on and play it while I'm doing other things around the house but most of the time I'll stop what I'm doing and sit down and watch the rest. It's not about nitpicking every little thing in the DVD. Personally I think the vocals are pretty good. Vince sings in tune, hitting all the high notes. Does he get ever word in there perfectly, no, but as a performer myself I understand how out of breath you can get on stage. Compared to the way Axle sings in their live DVD, Vince is golden. There are a couple part I skip through: the Nikki and Tommy solos, They are talent guys but I'm not too into experimental music. The Boobie Cam is old after you've seen it once. I mean, come on, how many times can you see the same girls show off their fake boobs? I don't care how much you like boobs it's not that great. Those are the only negative points of the entire DVD though. They play a ton of great songs, the stage is cool, the performance is good and you can watch it over and over and just have fun. that's what it's really all about.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nikki is friggin` hot, October 23, 2006
This performance is top notch, but the DVD lacks a bit, especially the sound. It`s hard to hear the singing and the instruments through all the noice from the audience. On a normal TV set without additional speakers, the sound is horrible. You`ll have to do quite a bit of tuning to get the sound right, and that may be too complicated for some. The easiest way is to just use headphones, that seemed to work fine. Having said that, the performance is sooo great. The first time i watched it, I thought they had added Vince`s voice later, it was simply too good to be true. Having watched it several times, I am certain that there is no lip sync in there. It is really Vince there, all the time, all the way. And man, can he sing

5.0 out of 5 stars why does the negative review get to lead off?, January 28, 2006

Bassman (Connecticut) - See all my reviews
Just got through watching the DVD.
Holy crap! Talk about more bang for the buck!
Don't know where to start. First the band sounds fantastic. They sound great together, they're having fun and it cooks! The mix is sweet and clean, the songs sound tight and ALIVE! With eyes closed and no crowd noise, you'd still know that you're hearing a concert recording.
Second, they seem to really enjoy playing the music. Some of the stage banter seems a little forced, but I think that it's more the band just being the band rather than pandering to the crowd.
And they're excited to be in front of a loving, happy, insane, bordering on maniacal audience. Just look at how these guys dig performing.
The look of the show is amazing. The stage is just what the doctor ordered, a spectacle. From the tent to the pyro to the "added performers", it's a nuthouse! It looks like what a concert should be and after viewing it I wished that I was at the thing.
And one last thing. Parts of it are like watching "Girls Gone Wild". Not a bad thing here. These "gentlemen" love their chickies and want to make sure that EVERYBODY gets a chance to share the enthusiasm.
All in all a great DVD that could've easily cost more. The Disc 2 stuff is all well and good, but the concert is the thing.
This reminds me of what a concert should be, a bunch of people seeing an amazing show, hearing a great band, and seeing what could possibly be,
"The Greatest Show in the Universe"

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I wanted from '05 tour, November 18, 2005
I attended this concert tour in June and this DVD was nearly identical. It was high energy and a strong performance by the band. They all rocked. Vince wasn't awesome on the lyrics but still gets the job done well enough to enjoy it. My only dissappointment with this concert/DVD was the '97 Shout at the Devil version used, which is the faster version that isn't as good in my opinion as original, but still cool. This DVD captures as much of that concert's feeling as possible. I was so hoping that they would release a video of this tour because this was a fabulous concert and great to have on DVD. This and KISS in concert are my favorite rock concerts ever. They really put forth some effort to please the crowd! I have the Crue's video collection DVD too, but if I had to pick one, this '05 would definitely be the one I'd buy. You will love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Motley Crue DVD Ever, March 24, 2007
I have never really been impressed with concert DVD's but this one is awesome!!! I don't understand the people who give it a bad reveiw. Granted I don't like all the F-word usage,Tommy's solo,or the Boobie Cam,but I just skip them. Aside from those this is truly an awsome DVD. If I don't watch it, I listen to it ,just about every day. Vinces voice is one of a kind. Tommy,Nikki,& Mic all give a Great show too! The theme is interesting and the whole show keeps you entertained. The extra's are cool too. I like watching the band talk with there fans,& the groups Individual reveiwes of the concert. It is really cool. Motley Crue really puts on a show for their Fans! I own about 30 Music DVD's and this is the only one so far that I really enjoy! It is well worth the money. My whole family loves this DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Raw, Loud, True, Epic...Welcome to the Rock n' Roll show, July 24, 2006
If you're reading this, there are actually only two options
*You may be a long time crue fan (as I am)
*You may be just curious
In the first case, do yourself a favour, stop reading this $%%# and get this dvd.Soon.Now.
In the second case, well, Motley Crue can't be told.
You have to see them. And hear them.
Since the Sunset Strip days, they followed one simple, basic rule, on and off stage : no hesitation.
And in 2006, these four bottles of expansive wines are just gettin' better and better.
They deliver today the best rock n' roll show around, and I mean rock n' roll : no compromise, loud, excessive, funny and psichotic.
They don't play the role, they're not tryin' to fool anyone with so-called deep message, they don't follow trends because they ARE trend-makers since 1981.
So all that remains is pure adrenalin rush all along the concert.
With a rhitm section wich would move a rocketship, a classic style guitar man wich blends bluesy and slide bits with metal and punk attitude, a frontman who just can hold an entire arena on the palm of his hand...
Everyone of them, picked one by one, it's a show itself..
See Nikki as the master of mahyem, biting fan's fingers while literally knockin' his bass strings to produce earthquaking lines that are the spine of crue sound...
See Mick kickin' away the pain with the medicine magic of his guitar...
See Vince who sings from the soul, and proves that he can be the only one who can share the stage with the other guys..
And what the heck...Tommy on drums : true , unstoppable force of the nature..the best rock drummer ever...you see him, you name it...
Living in Italy, I didn't had many chances to see them live, so this dvd's like a blessing fo me.
I was in the first row in 1989, Dr. Feelgood tour, in Milan, and I can tell you, the energy and attitude are the same,
may be even better...
Don't be a clown...use it before you lose it.

5.0 out of 5 stars DVD OF 2005!!!!!!, August 4, 2005
By
JASON (MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA) - See all my reviews
Finally Motley Crue are going to release the 'live' DVD fans have been waiting for!!! Original line up back together doing what they do best! The Crue are renowned for their massive, elaborate stage shows...with heaps of pyro and barely dressed girls. The DVD is titled 'Carnival of sins' and the whole show has a circus theme to it.......but with the 18 year old restriction it aint one for the minors! This DVD will be a far cry from the 'Lewd Crued and Tattooed' disc they released a few years back.
I know some people have rasied concerns about the footage.....but if you read the reviews for the DVD KISS 'symphony' there were people who bagged the disc has having shocking editing problems with the picture flicking rapidly from shot to shot, however when I picked up the DVD it was awesome!!! and I couldn't see a reason for the criticism!!
Motley Crue in my opinion would have to be one of the greatest live bands in history!!!!
I wish they had of filmed and released a show from Dr Feelgood tour!!! Now, however, we get the best tour since then!!
There are a couple of unknowns for me with this DVD.......
1. Is this a double as I heard it was????
2. Please put heaps of special features as fans are wanting all that extra stuff I am sure!
Buy this DVD if you want to see a rock concert the likes of which have not been seen in a long long time!!
Motley Crue rock!!!!!!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Quality of Blu Ray Video Lackluster!, December 9, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Motley Crue: Carnival of Sins Live [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I will keep this short. I had viewed this using a PS3 with HDMI straight into a 70" Mitsubishi Diamond Series 1080p DLP. Show is classic Motley Crue! Sound Quality was really good. However, the video quality isn't. There are times when it looks really good but then there are a lot of times that the color saturation is way off and the pixelation is terrible. No consistency in the image! Very annoying while watching. It is time for all companies producing blu ray video to get their collective stuff together and consistently produce high quality audio & video entertainment! I wonder if the DVD version is better?
