4.0 out of 5 stars Great Song Selection...Almost
This is a great representation of the best of Motley Crue, with the glaring exception of "Glitter." This one is hard to sit through. Surely, there are better hits than this one ("Too Young to Fall In Love", "Knock 'em Dead, Kid"?). Still, a great overview of a great band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome summary--and not the same as "Decade Of...", March 13, 2002
This review is from: Motley Crue - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
First of all, this is NOT the same as "Decade Of Decadence". Out of the 17 tracks here, only 7 of them are duplicated (i.e., same songs and same version of songs) between the two CDs. "Decade" was the band's version of a summary of their career to that point, while this collection is a true greatest hits. And what a rocking collection it is!

First off, the two new tracks are great. "Bitter Pill" and "Enslaved" have a bit of a modern edge to them but still also have that "heavy metal" sound that was somewhat lacking on the previous album, "Generation Swine". Surely more tracks along this vein would have made 2000 release "New Tatoo" a bit more solid. Would love to hear a Crue album that goes in this direction sometime.

As far as the classics that make up the rest of the album, you can't go wrong for the most part: "Dr. Feelgood", "Girls Girls Girls", "Looks That Kill", "Home Sweet Home"...need I go on? I will agree with other reviewers who say that "Glitter" is awful. I didn't care for the original version, never mind the remix. Also would have preferred the original "Shout At The Devil", although I don't mind the remake. Also should have included at least one or two Corabi songs from that underrated album ("Holigan's Holiday", "Uncle Jack", "Misunderstood", and "Driftaway" are all worthy candidates) but I'm sure Vince vetoed that. I do like the inclusion of "Afraid" from "Generation Swine".

All in all, you can't go wrong with this collection if you are a Cruehead and/or '80s hard rock fan. For sure, this disk is loaded with vintage hard rock and pop metal classics.

4.0 out of 5 stars A defenitive MOTLEY collection, no holds barred........, November 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Motley Crue - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
After hearing the new tracks, "Bitter Pill" and "Enslaved", I got excited! I hope future recordings sound like this. All the favorite MOTLEY traxx are included in the aswesome CD, with cool packaging with nice memoirs left by each member. A cool UK version of "Glitter" is included, a favorite track off the SWINE CD. This is a defenitive, must have for any DIEHARD CRUE HEAD! or for any metalhead over the past two decades! Long live the CRUE! I can't wait for the new CRUE live CD this month. I want to meet the CRUE someday, maybe on MTV's FANATIC show? Forever fan, Bobby D......

5.0 out of 5 stars Motley Crue - Take A Ride On The Wild Side, May 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Motley Crue - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Motley Crue is truly a great band, whether you like it or not. They defined the era of which they played in, and they took everything to the next level, on and off stage. And their music is more than satisfying, not only with outstanding guitar-playing and perfect heavy metal vocals but also with powerful, bass-driven drumming from Tommy Lee. Overall, this Greatest Hits album is a collection of Motley Crue's biggest hits, as well as two new songs. The bottom line is, if you like hard rock and you like humorous but often serious vocals, this is the album you want.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent complation of L.A.'s bad boys, May 15, 2000
This review is from: Motley Crue - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This Cd opens up with two new songs from the original line up of Motley Crue. These songs are fairly mediocre but they certainly aren't bad. But once track 3 begins, and you hear that motercylcle, you know what your hearing. "Girls Girls Girls", one of the staples of eighties hard rock blairs out of the Cd player and then you are aware of why you bought the album. And it doesn't stop there. All the classics flow through this album and they have only become better since released. From the hard rocking ode to the L.A. crime scene in "Wild Side" to the thrashing riffs of "Dr. Feelgood" there are almost no complaints on this CD. Along with Def Leppard's "Vault", and "Monsters of Rock", this CD proves that eighties hard rock lives on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good album, September 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Motley Crue - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This encapsulates most of Motleys best songs released (aptly titled). However, there are a couple songs on the album that are extremely out of place. I cant for the life of me see how songs like "Live Wire" and "Hoolgans holiday" were left off to make room for "Afraid" and "Glitter". Maybe its that the Swine album was just THAT bad, but they certainly arent Motley's greatest songs. THe new tracks (Bitter Pill and Enslaved) are awesome. However, I could not give it a 5 star rating due to a couple of the afore mentioned tracks. Otherwise, it is a great album of excellent 80s and 90s metal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yes!, June 26, 2002

This review is from: Motley Crue - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
In some respects, I'm not really the right person for this review. I've never been a big fan of hair metal, but only a fool wouldn't recognize Motley Crue as the bad boys of rock in 1980s. These guys did it all! Their music was the soundtrack of true decadence, and this incredible hits collection is a sample of their sound: loud, dumb, and fun guitar rock. Their lyrical range sure doesn't go very far, but who cares? "Dr. Feelgood," "Looks That Kill," and "Smokin' in the Boys Room" are such undeniably guilty pleasures that have aged well. I totally cannot believe I'm writing this, and I'd never thought I'd live to the day I'd actually praise the Crue, but you should get your hands on this collection even if you're a casual listener like myself.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great reflection, but where's Crabby??, August 20, 2001

Scott W. Phillips (FPO, AE United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Motley Crue - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This is a great compilation of the Vince Neil Era of Motley Crue. The new songs "Bitter Pill" and "Enslaved" are what "New Tattoo" should have been more like. I don't like the fact that the John Corabi era Crue was ignored. Song's like "Misunderstood", "Driftaway", and "Uncle Jack" are Crue classics. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers so this CD is great!!! If you don't already have Motley's entire catalogue from "Too Fast For Love" to "Generation Swine", buy this now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sleaze Metal At It's Best, May 29, 2000
This review is from: Motley Crue - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This is a really good album. Almost every song is good, except for the horrible Glitter. Classic Crue abounds: sleazy lyrics, pounding riffs, trademark drumming, etc., and nearly every song that matters is here. The only complaints are that the versions of Glitter (awful) and Shout At The Devil (still great) are remixed versions. This album overflowing with great songs and is a must-have.
