Book Description

January 6, 1998

There's never been a better time for the individual investor to take control of his or her investments. Anybody with a computer and a modem can monitor stocks, access real-time quotes, get the latest company financials, and much, much more in short, you can get all the same data as Wall Street's Wise Men. And you can do more with it than they ever dreamed.

The Motley Fool is the most popular online financial forum on the planet. It's the place where hundreds of thousands of individual investors go to get what they need to maximize their investment dollars. And for good reason. Since the Gardner brothers took their act online in 1994, they and their fellow Fools have been helping these investors crush the market averages. In their national bestseller, The Motley Fool Investment Guide (and in You Have More Than You Think, their latest assault on the Wise and latest advice for the eager investor), the Gardners have introduced their readers to the investment strategies and financial tactics that enabled them to beat the very best that Wall Street could manage.

Now, The Motley Fool Investment Workbook will take you step-by-step through the process of putting to the lessons learned in these two books. Here, you will pick up a pencil and: Build yourself a budget Figure out how much you have to invest Work out which investment strategy is best for you Discover the best sources of stock market information and what to do with them once you find them Find out where and how to buy stocks the cheapest and fastest way possible Learn when to hold on to your investment and when if ever to let it go

And that's not all The Motley Fool Investment Workbook will show you exactly how to take control of your own monetary destiny in the simplest possible way.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

The Gardners proclaim this to be a "stand-alone interactive guide," but it will appeal most to fans of their Motley Fool Investment Guide (1996) or their just-released You Have More Than You Think: The Motley Fool Guide to Investing What You Have (1998). In their trademarked (literally!) Foolish style, these two brothers provide the charts, graphs, questionnaires, and pop quizzes necessary to help people assess their own financial status, set goals, and develop a plan and method to reach those goals. The Gardners help make investment principles clear and are very effective in reaching those who may be put off by more traditional financial planning guides. Although their advice is quite sound, they serve it up irreverently and make it clear that they do not take themselves too seriously. David Rouse

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent source for retaining what you've learned., September 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Motley Fool Investment Workbook (Paperback)
I am new to the investment world and for the last year, I have read several books on investing. The problem was I didn't remember all those equations and definitions. I teach chemistry and I could not imagine teaching it without ever giving example problems. This is exactly what the workbook does. Now, I remember all those equations and definitions. Good job, Fools.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fools make sense. Great book for the novice investor!, July 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Motley Fool Investment Workbook (Paperback)
A little background on where this review is coming from: I am halfway through this workbook, I have never read the other books of the Gardner brothers, but decided to post a comment about this one since what I have read so far is pretty good. I am currently studying personal financial planning and investment options. In my view, this book is a good starter. The approach is fun and easy, the humour used by the authors in their writing makes the topic much easier to digest. Other pluses are: you encounter the tables and exercises just as you need them-- so that exercises and illustrations/examples of calculations are done with the flow of the whole book. Also, the questionnaire that determines your risk level is pretty innovative. And the workbook gave me a great refresher of my college accounting course. But most of all, the pages I have read make GOOD COMMON SENSE. And this is what will help the novice investor to lay down a solid foundation for financial planning and investing. If you are a beginner in the world of investing, get this book. You won't regret it. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great supplement to Investors Guide., June 11, 2000
This review is from: The Motley Fool Investment Workbook (Paperback)
After reading TMF Investors Guide, I decided to give the workbook a try. It was worth the look. It guides you through all of the techniques described in the Investors Guide. With pencil and calculator in hand, I went through the entire workbook and now really have a clear picture of my own financial situation and how "foolish" investing will work for me. This book helps to clear up some of the hazy concepts that you might read about in other Motley Fool publications (ie. Foolish 4 and other Dow techniques). I say this is a great book to go through after reading the Motley Fool Investors Guide. It contains the same irreverent humor and lively writng and really reinforces everything the Gardners teach.
