3.0 out of 5 stars its all alright
the career mode is kind of frustrating because your bike is much slower on the straight aways than everyone elses bike. but then you catch up to them in the corners fairly easy. they blow by you on the straight aways and it pisses me off. i have read other reviews, they say after one season that you get a better bike that helps you keep up, but i have not gotten there yet.

MotoGP 09/10 for Xbox

Having playing MotoGP 05 on the PC, I found it somewhat easier to play MotoGP on the Xbox because of the controller. Replicating a motorcycle control interface for a PC or game system is difficult, as turning requires leaning the motorcycle first.

The player's head bobs and weaves every which way possible, except for looking where you want to go in the helmet display mode. In racing sims like GTR 2 or GTR Evo, you can adjust a setting that allows your head to follow the apex of a turn which simulates the rider/driver looking at where they want to go. In MotoGP 09/10, the player's head doesn't tilt upright while leaning and doesn't follow the apex of the turn, making it very disorienting to control the bike. I ended up just using the external view.

The graphics are fairly decent, much better than SBK X and MotoGP 08, although they don't come close to Forza 3, Gran Turismo 5, or other Xbox racing games. The engine sounds aren't that great either, they sound all the same except for the Ducati Desmosedici which sounds like it is a low revving weed whacker with more bass. I was hitting the revlimiter because I couldn't hear a proper change in engine pitch.

The handling is love or hate. A lot of people seem to hate the physics engine of MotoGP 09/10. I agreed at first, but after giving the game a solid 12 months of play and close comparison with MotoGP 08 and SBK X, I have to say MotoGP 09/10 is the clear winner. The motorcycles lean faster and more intuitively, although high sides can come very quickly and without warning. The achievements make the game interesting, namely the "Beating the Fun Vampire" achievement of beating a lap time of 1:19.78 at Donington, which took several tries. I felt it was actually fun, because part of racing is learning the track, and pushing yourself and the machine to the limits lap by lap.

Overall: 5/5, I recommend MotoGP 09/10 over MotoGP 08 and SBK X. 09/10 has better graphics and what I feel is a better physics model. The developers should improve the sound effects and maybe consider releasing the next game in the US instead of keeping MotoGP 10/11 PAL-only., but understandably motorcycles aren't very popular in the US.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Moto GP yet, December 7, 2010

First off, I gotta say that I truly like this game. Its the best moto GP game that I've played so far and I started playing the serier with Moto GP 1 and stopped after the third installment.

Graphics: The graphics are sharp and look great for this year and there is nothing new other than a refinement for the graphics.

Sounds: Again, the sounds are on par with the sounds of a racing game, all the bikes have unique sounds and each bike sounds different.

Gameplay: This is the highlight of this year, the creators took a risk at making the game a little more realistic but I like realistic games. This year the creators allow you to take control of your racing destiny as the racer as well as the manager for your team. You are able to hire staff (press agent and engineers) as well as use different bike manufacturers to implement a better bike to your team, amoung other things.

you start out in the 125 series and make your way up the ladder. I may sound boring but you have to play it. You level up your reputation by participating in the practice, qualify and race of each track as it appears in your schedule. There is a breakdown of what a practice session, the qualifying session and the race session will earn you if you do good. I never use to play any of these, except the race in the earlier versions but the structure of this game motivates you to play each and every race you can participate in. As a team trying to make a name for itself, you do what you have to do. That alone brings much replay value to this game. Also, rest assured, you will not come in 1 even on the easiest settings. You have to get a feel for this game and upgrade and switch out the model to really get ahead (like in real life).

So, I hope my small testamony helps you to purchase this game, and also, I got this game for 7 bucks, brand spankin new on amazon, you cant beat that. Get this game if you like to play through a real season of moto GP racing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Way better than I expected, March 27, 2011

I had given up hope that there were going to be any good motorcycle games on the 360. They are all pretty bad. I finally picked this one up because it was so cheap. I am disappointed that I didn't buck up and buy it sooner, because it's great! Graphics are bright and cartoony, but very pleasing to look at. The all-important frame-rate is solid. This is NOT a sim, but more of an arcade-type control, which is fine with me. With that in mind, it controls well. It's easy to race and stay on the road, but difficult to run a perfect racing-line, even with lots of practice. The game is not perfect, though. There are difficulty-balancing issues, some very odd neglections in the menus which make setting-up for a race tedious and slow, and a general lack of fan-fare and bells-and-whistles (short of a very enthusiastic sounding voice-over guy). The game actually deserves a 3 star, but since it's the only decent motorcycle game I've played in 15 years, I bumped it up to 4. I haven't tried the new SBKXX yet, though... We'll see.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Competent Racer, February 26, 2011

This game is much more forgiving than previous titles - you can pick a difficulty without effect on achievements, and you can rewind if you wipe out in career mode. Which means if you fall on your third lap, at least you wouldn't have to start over. Control is very straightforward for a racer, the only difference is that you need to use 2 brake buttons (front and rear) compared to a car. There is no need to go into gear ratios and spend hours trying to make your bike competitive. Default wins races just fine. Which may not be a plus to you, to me it is, and a huge one. Also, you don't fly off the bike the second you barely clip other racers, something that plagued MGP 06 and 07.

They also added a fun RPG element in the career mode, where you have to manage a staff of engineers and marketers to make improvements to your bike - very addictive. Also, the game is a guaranteed 700 GS points, more if you dabble into online, which, my guess is, would not be very prolific at this point in time. My only gripe is removal of the extreme mode compared to MGP 07. It's really puzzling. It's not like graphics have improved so much, just take the code and paste it into the game, with some tweaks. Would greatly break the monotony of racing the same 17 tracks over and over again.

Whole different approach than last World Superbike (for reference). The graphics, interaction, and options all pretty neat. From 125cc all the way up to the big MotoGP bikes. I started on 125cc, at the bottom, like in real life racing.

I like everything except the control of the bikes. They are difficult to steer when under acceleration. The bike does not want to change direction easily. Maybe it is just me.

After a lone wait for this game, I found it terrible. Like playing a cheap arcade game from the 70's. Save your money
