It works -- no need for bait. Just put it against any wall where mice are likely to travel. They tend to follow the wall edge, and they walk right into this little gadget over a series of tilting ramps that keep them from getting back out again. Be aware that those traps are not always humane. I purchased mine for a mice problem in my garage. The first time I used it it killed the mouse. Her head got stuck in the mechanism - it was horrible! When I found her she was half-dead and I'm pretty sure that she was suffering for many hours. I'm returning it to the store today. I'm aware that it could be just stupid...

It works -- no need for bait. Just put it against any wall where mice are likely to travel. They tend to follow the wall edge, and they walk right into this little gadget over a series of tilting ramps that keep them from getting back out again. One important warning -- follow the directions and check the trap twice a day if you want the mice in it to be still alive. I just found a mother with 5 young ones inside mine. Unfortunately, I hadn't looked for a couple of days, and Mom was dead. It's also a good idea to make sure that ALL of the mice have actually been released from the trap. Little ones can and will hide under the ramps. But if you just want the little critters out of your house, this does the job. Don't forget to check it.

I'm aware that it could be just stupid accident (judging by other reviews) and I was just unlucky, but the product should have a warning that it could happen. After all we are purchasing it specifically for the reason of catching them alive!...

5.0 out of 5 stars I thought it didn't work, October 16, 2010

My cat brought a mouse into the house. It hid under the big screen tv. Later, both cats were monitoring a closet. I put some peanut butter in the trap, and set it in the closet. The next day there were mouse droppings, but no mouse. Smart mouse to get out of it. I thought it was a bit flimsy anyway. The next day the same, so I thought I'd clean it out and order a different brand. I slid the top half way open, and looked into the opening where the mouse would get in which is now a small compartment under the teeter totter plates. There was a mouse. I took it outside, and opened the cover so the mouse could find its way when comfortable. I do think having the peanut butter kept it alive.

I live in Arizona where the small Merriam's Kangaroo rat exist. These rats often tunnel under the house's concrete slabs. You will find mounds of dirt around the foundation where they have set up residence. These rats only come out at night. I went to the hardware store today and bought the trap. As soon as it was getting dark I set the trap outside against the house. Although it said not to bait the trap, I placed some raw Quaker Oats on the center of the ramps. Kangaroo rats love oats. Within 2 hours I had trapped a cute little guy. The rat didn't even look scared. It was so easy to just pick up the trap, put it in my car and drive him out to the desert. Releasing the rat was so easy - I just slide the top back and the rat crawled out and sauntered away. I highly recommend this trap. It is easy to use and easy to clean.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably well-designed, clean, easy to use, and really works, May 24, 2010
This review is from: Motomco Ltd Live Catch Mouse Trap 33510 Mouse & Rat Trap
If Apple made mousetraps, this would be it. Not only does it work without the mess and smell of bait or the dangers of poison, it is attractive, extremely easy to use, and lasts for years. The smoked plastic top allows you to see if mice are inside, but obscures them enough not to be obvious. It sits snuggly against walls or other vertical surfaces, and is low enough to slip under furniture or junk in a basement. I often set mine on top of a basement wall. The smoked lid is secure, yet snaps off to empty without trouble. I have used my trap for more than four years, and the two ingenious spring up doors keep working and working like new. The "holding area" for the mice has air slots and is generous enough for several mice. The little critters are likely to relieve themselves in the trap, so you should wash or rinse it clean and air dry it or wipe with a paper towel before putting it back into place. The plastic rinses clean quickly and easily.

From a mouse's point of view, the little tunnel they see as they approach this trap must seem irresistibly safe and secure. I have put this trap and a more conventional baited trap in the same area, and it is this one that catches the mice. Also, if I see a mouse scurrying along a baseboard in another location, I can pick up this trap, set it a little bit in front of him, and kind of round him up or direct him toward it (maybe with a piece of cardboard). He will go right in.

You do not have to touch the mice to empty the trap. As another reviewer said, do remember to check the trap once or twice a day, and, when you are letting the mice out or otherwise emptying it, make sure no little ones are hiding under the door/floor mechanism.

All in all, this is an attractive, very well designed, simple, nicely constructed, easy to use device that performs as promised and is an excellent value.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Motomco Ltd Live Catch Mouse Trap 33510 Mouse & Rat Trap
I had bought several of the traditional mouse traps with poor results. The mice were too smart. So I got this one and it worked. We caught the mouse and were able to let it go outside...no mess, no resetting the trap, no bait. I was quite happy with it and it didn't cost more than $13.
