5.0 out of 5 stars Great product! VERY safe and secure from kids/pets!
This bait station is great. It is locked and can only be opened with a key that comes with it. We have young children and 3 dogs so it needed to be secure to keep them all safe. It is! I highly recommend this product!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as safe as one would expect., September 22, 2010
This review is from: Motomco Tomcat Rodent Station 33475 (Lawn & Patio)
We live out in the country, and thought this would be a great way to deal with the mice problem -- and keep our doggies safe from the bait.

However, as you can see in the photos presented with this product, the baits are attached only on the bottom -- not on the top.

What this means is an enterprising mouse or rat can actually REMOVE the entire bait, with the bar, and take it out of the box.

This is what happened in our house. We were horrified to find an entire block of bait, with bar, sitting at the bottom of a closet.

When using the old paper bait boxes, you know to keep them under counters and away from pets. And the worse you're going to have to deal with is a small pile of pellets stored away before the mouse dies. With this? You may end up like we did, WITH AN ENTIRE BLOCK OF BAIT OUT WHERE YOUR PETS CAN GET TO IT.

So I rate this product as a great idea, badly executed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Designed and Effective Bait Trap, July 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Motomco Tomcat Rodent Station 33475 (Lawn & Patio)
I was already been using the Tomcat Bait and knew that would be effective. I needed a bait trap that was safer to leave in our yard than a homemade version.

The Motomco Tomcat Rodent Station does the trick. After reading the reviews, I was curious about the locking and key mechanism. Sure enough. When I first took the trap out of its box, read the instructions and tried to open it, it was resistent. I followed the very simple key-insertion and pressing instructions. It finally opened. That solved it! Once I could see how the locking and unlocking mechanism is engineered, opening the trap is no longer a problem at all.

I will be purchasing a second trap for our backyard area. We live in rural New Mexico and have lots of Pack Rats. We don't want them near or in the house.

Bought 4 of these for out door use and they seem to be durable enough and are getting the job done. My one complaint is that they are a bit of a pain to open until you get used it.

this is the first time I found something cheaper in the store. It is 6.99 at Menards. Don't buy here if it is 12.99 as shown.

This was supposed to come with a "key" to open the unit, but was not included...no where on the box to call anyone either.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheaply made, but expected, missing key/pins, December 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Motomco Tomcat Rodent Station 33475 (Lawn & Patio)
Having read the prior reviews, I guess I was expecting a cheap but sturdily made black box that held rodent bait (sold separately). In that regard I was not disappointed nor surprised. I did find these boxes, even w/ bait, to be very light, and probably can get pushed around very easily by larger animals. As another reviewer experienced, one bait station was missing the key and the accompanying pins that hold the rodent bait. Luckily I had bought 2 boxes, and the other one had a key, so at least I was able to open the boxes (and sent Amazon feedback to try to get the missing items sent). I also found the key hard to use, and had to use a screwdriver to help pry open both boxes. Not sure why the related very similar Motomco "rat" bait station is so far is rated 5/5, but maybe it's made better and people should consider that product instead.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bait Not Included, August 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Motomco Tomcat Rodent Station 33475 (Lawn & Patio)
The station comes WITHOUT bait. The picture shows that there is bait in the box. This is a bit of false representation. I contacted Amazon and they assured me that the item did indicate that it came without bait. IT DOES NOT, the illustration presents the station with the bait set in their places. There must be a notice on the page that the box is empty and thatbait should be purchaed separately.

I must add that the opening of the station is next to impossible with this KEY that is provided. It took me many tries and great perservance to get the box opened.

The station does provide for a much safer means of elimination the d--m rodents.

This may work fine indoors and away from large animals, however, out of doors is a problem.
We have racoons that just go wild trying to get the poison inside the box. They slap it around until it is empty and eat it. As a result, the box is usless to me and the poision expensive.

This is great because you don't have to get rid of traps. They eat it, they wonder away & die! It works!
