Book Description

January 2004 073604566X 978-0736045667 3
This third edition of Motor Learning and Performance expands on the fundamental principles of motor performance and learning, applying theoretical principles to a variety of realistic contexts. It continues to combine a conceptual model of human performance with a problem-based learning approach. This approach provides a comprehensive model to identify effective solutions to a wide range of practical problems in the performance and learning of motor skills. This book is designed so that readers don't need prerequisites in physiology, psychology, statistical methods or other basic sciences in order to understand the material. It provides a fascinating introduction to the field of motor learning and its many practical applications.

2.0 out of 5 stars textbook, September 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This textbook has a poor format. There are very distracting boxed off sections of the book. There are questions asked throughout the book in some of these boxes and the answers are not clear. There are an incredible number of terms to learn and no good method to learn them, no quiz, no feedback. There are essay questions at the end of the chapters, and no answers to those questions in the back, so, you are never quite sure if you are 'getting it". The book comes with a web page for support, but it too is poorly designed and not worth the added cost if you buy the book used. Overall I give this book a D+.
I am glad I was able to purchase this textbook through Amazon, the college bookstore wanted $40. more for it.

It's a textbook people! It is what it is.

I am extremely grateful that I found this addition on the cheap. I'm done going to the bookstore and spending $100 plus on a textbook that just to get $5 back at the end of the semester; and that's IF they buy it back.

Amazon is the best place to get these things for a reasonable price.

4.0 out of 5 stars User-friendly text on motor learning theory & applications, July 24, 2007

Having recently been assigned to teach a motor learning course this fall, I obtained, read, and have adopted this text for my course. The problem-based approach is helpful in making the connection between theory and application. The authors should try to put diagrams on the page which discusses them as it is sometimes confusing trying to examine them while reading the paragraphs related to the figures and tables being referenced. Ancillary materials for instructors should be expanded and I understand that the 4th edition is supposed to be ready for release in November with PowerPoints, test questions, etc. available for instructors who adopt the book. This will be GREATLY appreciated.
