Product Description

Platform: PlayStation2

MotorStorm® has ripped-up the Monument Valley desert, it's obliterated everything that stood in its path on Pacific Rift, and now it's set for a whole new challenge. Battling the frozen wasteland of Alaska's Arctic Edge. MotorStorm® Arctic Edge delivers brutal off-road racing in the breathtaking yet lethal and unpredictable setting of Alaska. With temperatures plummeting, sudden avalanches, broken ice bridges, and three different racing altitudes, Arctic Edge is the most inhospitable environment the Stormers have ever faced. With grip at a premium, and in addition to the six vehicle classes from the original MotorStorm, two new vehicles have been introduced to combat the ice, the cold and the snow - the Snowcat and the Snow Machine. One has the power and size to blast through packed snow, while the other has the grip and pace to combat most of what the sub-zero conditions can throw at it. MotorStorm Arctic Edge is great for single player action, online multiplayer or playing with friends; two to eight players can compete against each other wirelessly via Ad Hoc Mode on PSP. Alternatively, you can also compete via online multiplayer using Infrastructure Mode on PSP to make it to the summit of the online global leaderboards.

5.0 out of 5 stars RIDICULOUSLY FUN, THE LAST PS2 RACING HURRAH 9 OUT OF 10 November 10, 2009
By ACEMAN1
Platform for Display:PlayStation2
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
To tell you the truth, I didn't particularly care for Motorstorm when I played it on the PS3. But then I started reading about this one and I got excited that it was coming to PS2 (I don't own a PS3, and I don't want one). I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting into considering there weren't very many reviews (Currently a rating of 72 out of 100 on Metacritic), but I had a blast with this game and I can say that it's the most fun I've had with a racing game in years. I sure wish Sony would do this with all their franchises. Release them on PS3 first, then put an entry in the franchise on PS2. Here's my opinion for why I think you should buy this game.
WHAT THE GAME IS: Welcome to Northern Alaska. It's time to compete in a number of racing events and unlock tons of cool stuff. This game is a destructive racing title, as the franchise has been known for. There's no actual storyline behind it, you just race lots of awesome vehicles in awesome tracks.
GRAPHICS: These aren't the greatest graphics you'll see on the PS2, but in a day and age where PS2 releases are slimming down as each month goes by, it looks pretty good and the developer did actually put effort into the detail of everything. All the levels are very well-designed, interesting to look at, and full of all sorts of paths. This area is pretty good for the most part, but there are some texture issues.
MUSIC: This game is loaded with all sorts of music from different bands and it fits the mood pretty well. It certainly gets the blood pumping and they go along with the intense races quite well.
SOUND: There's plenty of crashing noises, explosions, and the vehicles do seem to sound realistic. No gripes with this area.
GAMEPLAY: This is the real meat of the game.

4.0 out of 5 stars PS2 Gamers Unite! Motorstorm is here! December 26, 2009
Platform for Display:PlayStation2
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Motorstorm is a (near) next-generation racing experience on the PS2. The graphics are great, the presentation is slick, the controls are good, the vehicle variety is cool, wipeouts and explosions are wild, the sound is fantastic, the split-screen is fun, etc. If you've been wondering if the PS2 still has any life left in it the answer is "yes" and Motorstorm is the proof! I mean, sure there is no online, no PS3 HD graphics, etc (unlike the previous Motorstorms released for the PS3). But for only 30 bucks (or less) who can complain? This is the closest thing to next-gen experience on the PS2 that I have experienced. So pick this bad boy up and enjoy! Motorstorm is here!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun game. August 30, 2011

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I got this game right after it came out for PS2 and a couple months later I got it for my PSP. The graphics are exceptional compared to most PS2 and PSP games, The festival mode has plenty of events, and it gets extremely competitive near the end. The vehicle customizations are endless, and you'll always have something to do with the free play(called wreckreation, yes "wreck"reation)mode. Almost two years later and I still love playing this game. Even though it's on a different console and made by a different developer, this game holds true to the motorstorm name.

4.0 out of 5 stars Going backwards a Generation February 3, 2012
By Keaton

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I have all the MotorStorm games, from the original in Monument Valley, to Pacific Rift, to Apocalypse, and even Arctic Edge for PSP. I love the series and play them a lot. My first experience was seeing it as my first PS3 game with it's amazing graphics. It seemed odd that a PS3 series would go backwards a generation to the PS2. The PS2 version is a port of the PSP version, with some added stuff. The PSP version played and looked great for a portable handheld. MotorStorm as a PS2 game still holds up, at least to other PS2 games. Of course the graphics are lower than the PS3 installments, being 480i. Textures, and model details being less detailed. However the PlayStation 2 version of Arctic edge does up the graphics a little from the PSP version. I've heard it's improved the texture detail a bit, and added some special effects like reflections in the ice. The PS2 version also added Split screen multiplayer, which the PSP could not do. However the PS2 version can not play online, which the PSP version could do. The PlayStation 2 version does have easier and more familiar controls though.

Now the game itself is great. It plays smoothly enough, except when there is a lot going on (like all the racers being onscreen at once), then it will lag a bit. There are two, sort of three new vehicles here. There is no Monster Truck from Pacific rift, but they have added Snow Mobiles and Snow Cats. Snow Mobiles are between ATV's and Buggies, riding on them exposes yourself. The Snow Cat is after the Big Rig, and is some large bulky vehicle on tank treads for snow. The mudpluggers have been replaced with Snowpluggers, though there isn't much of a difference. I don't think you can ram anyone, unless your on a bike/ATV/snow mobile trying to hit someone else on a bike/ATV/snow mobile.
