It's just too darned expensive to leave my gas up for grabs so I snapped this up when I saw that it was only 6 bucks. I have had this cap on my car for 3 weeks now and the only time the gas needle moves is when I have been driving my car, which is exactly how I like it. The lock itself is very easy to use and its easy to tell when its not locked properly. When it is locked correctly, the top of the cap spins in place but won't unscrew from the tank. By my estimation, this cap has already paid for itself 3 times over.
Since it has only been a few weeks I will update this post later to let you know how it holds up, or holds out.
The Gas cap is still going strong. Someone tried to pick the lock to get at the tank the other night. I can see the scratches where they were trying to pry it off. I am glad to report that they did not succeed. I think it's safe to say I am well pleased with the performance.
Remove key, screw in cap clockwise until it clicks, replace key, turn key clockwise until it stops, remove key (Locked). To (unlock) insert key, hold cap, turn key clockwise until it stops, unscrew cap.
I believe the different way this cap locks, and lack of instructions is the reason for many of the bad reviews.
Bad- the cap locking mechanism was hard to engage from the start and today 11 months after purchase it wouldn't engage to let me open at all -fortunately I still had enough gas to drive home.
Ugly- the broken cap was very easy to pry off it took me less than 5 minutes to get it off with a mini pry bar - I am sure a thief could do it in less than 1 minute.
although not listed in the look up, this model will fit a 1994 dodge ram250 van.
turn gasoline cap clockwise until resistance is met; then turn the key clockwise and remove.
turn the key counterclockwise until resistance is met; then turn gasoline cap counterclockwise until it comes off.
on my van it fits properly and does not cause the 'check engine' warning to activate and remain lit.
i would not consider build quality of the lock assembly hefty, but acceptable for one who wants to prevent others from accessing the gasoline tank.

Doesn't fit my 2004 Chevrolet Silverado like it says it does. Not only is there not a option to return it they don't even have an option to let me write to them about it.Published 5 days ago by TonyStoney
I bought this to replace an older locking cap so wanted basically a good device and this was it. The lock is fairly easy to use and the overall quality of the part is good. Read morePublished 10 days ago by Doctor Dave
Meh. I like the way it feels but at this point I don't bother locking it anymore because it's a hassle to unlock it.Published 14 days ago by Matt K
