Excellent modern Fusion!,

This review is from: Motorbison Serenade (Audio CD)
On Motorbison Serenade Jessica Lurie takes Jazz roots and a Rock attitude and combines them to create a surprisingly fresh approach to modern Fusion. On some tracks Jessica seems to take the sound of Mahavishnu Orchestra as a starting point... and rockets off from there in her own direction. The comparison to Mahav is most clear in the drumming, which on most tracks is decidedly straight-ahead Rock. On the other hand, some of the melodies and arrangments are almost avant garde, with interesting and unique compositions such as "Frosty Cricket".All in all, this album combines funky fusion, clever melodies and arrangements, and a fresh sound to create an album that is one of the best I've heard in a while. Five stars.
