2.0 out of 5 stars OK as an introduction, not much use otherwise.
The content is somewhat dated, so of limited use to anyone seeking detailed information. The author struggles to explain concepts in parts, suggesting that he has been less than meticulous in his research. There are better books available.

1.0 out of 5 stars A worthy effort, but not quite enough., April 27, 2006
This review is from: Motorcycle Fuel Injection Handbook (Motorbooks Workshop) (Paperback)
It's difficult to see quite who this book is aimed at. It is too dry and complex a subject for casual readers, and this volume lacks sufficient depth and clarity for serious students and professionals. As others have stated, much of the content is out of date. Needs a re-write.

OK Primer, BMW information is dated dealing with the Motronic systems and no updates for the BMSC or BMSK. As a BASIC overview it was informative.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for the beginner, April 3, 2005

This review is from: Motorcycle Fuel Injection Handbook (Motorbooks Workshop) (Paperback)
This book does not get into enough detail for someone who wants to learn about fuel injection from scratch. Terms are constantly introduced like you are supposed to know what they mean and if the author tries to explain it, the descriptions are more a matter of fact instead of something that needs be explained in detail. The pictures in the books are mostly of parts. What I needed are diagrams to explain what is actually going on. While the author explained a process, I was unable to "picture" what was going on.

...about this super-complicated topic. Wade dives into the real nitty-gritty about mc fuel injection systems, what to chop for, how to tune, theories of better engine management. It's incredible...lots of diagrams and charts and helpful info.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helps take the mystery out of fuel injection, January 18, 2007

I like this book, yet I'm a motorcycle fanatic and an electronic engineer. It's takes some effort to get to the core of EFI, which is the volumetric efficiency table. It explains speed-density EFI control, alpha-n EFI control, and mass air flow EFI control. The book discusses the trade offs between the three in regards to motorcycle applications. You won't get that in a automotive EFI book.

Every point made in this book takes days to develop, and then it ends up being some generality that anyone with half a brain already knew. A tedious read that easily could have been condensed to 1/4 the size. Filled with typos and grammatical errors to boot.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive "How It Works" Book On EFI, December 20, 2004
This review is from: Motorcycle Fuel Injection Handbook (Motorbooks Workshop) (Paperback)
I am biased, of course, being the author. :) I wrote this book to be entirely technically accurate, yet explained in ways that a layperson can understand. I strove to be understandable without the book being boring or too simple for advanced readers. A section of the book is devoted entirely to understanding the dynamics of four-stroke engine operation and the combustion event, so you can truly understand why a given sensor is located where it is, or why you would want to advance ignition timing at part throttle. Armed with the knowledge in this book, most readers should be able to approach basic troubleshooting of EFI, as well as understanding the benefits and drawbacks to various possible modifications.
