5.0 out of 5 stars Still the best resource for Alps Touring
I took John's first edition of this book and a map and rode the Alps and the Dolemites for ten days. We reviewed the routes and stops each morning and evening. This is a great resource if you are traveling in the area. I brought three other books on this topic and left them behind at hotels as the trip progressed, as I realized I did not need any other resources. Use this...

1.0 out of 5 stars Motorcycle the Alps
Received the book the same day as trade magazine (Rider) announced that a new edition had been published a was available for purchase. Bad timing on my part or bagged by selling me an old edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still the best resource for Alps Touring, November 22, 2000
I took John's first edition of this book and a map and rode the Alps and the Dolemites for ten days. We reviewed the routes and stops each morning and evening. This is a great resource if you are traveling in the area. I brought three other books on this topic and left them behind at hotels as the trip progressed, as I realized I did not need any other resources. Use this and an internet translator site (like Babelfish)and you can make your reservations in some of the same hotels that Edelweiss and other formal tour groups use. This new edition expands on the first by adding Corsica and updating the Alps/Dolemite section. It is a great read. John is the recognized authority on this area for those of us that don't speak other languages well, and don't live there. He is also correct in stating that the riding in this region is addictive.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Guide to the Alps, August 27, 2003
By A Customer
I took a packaged tour of the Alps in 2002. Thank goodness I took this book with me. This book had so much more quality information than the touring company, it was unbelievable! Each night, we would return from some awsome ride (not on the base or recommended route). It became a nightly ritual to review where we went. People, including the tour guide, wanted to know how I knew of these roads, I showed them the book.

Next time, I will just take this book and go, no tour company! I am a heavy rider, 30K miles per year, close to 400K miles ridden.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive book on traveling in the Alps & Corsica!, February 22, 2000
By
Thomas R. Mooney (Chula Vista, California, USA) - See all my reviews
Don't leave home without it! No one should go to the Alps or Corsica without this 2nd revision in hand. It contains a wealth of additional information and is virtually a complete rewrite of the first edition. It should rightly be called "Journeys Through the Alps & Corsica" because it is indispensible for all travelers regardless of mode of transportation. Traveling the recommended routes by motorcycle may be more fun but every piece of information is invaluable whether you're traveling by car, van, truck or bus. Following the recommended routes will put you in touch with the real Alps & real Corsica as well a provide an enormous amount of cultural and historical background. Highly recommended for all travelers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensable companion for an Alpine tour, November 23, 1999
By
Eric and Bronwen Young (Armstrong, BC, Canada) - See all my reviews
Hermann has distilled the Alpine motorcycle experience perfectly. Being do-it-yourself types we were reluctant just to follow somebody's advice. In no time we realized that Hermann was providing incredible insight into how to approach an Alpine motorcycle tour. His itineraries outline the best order and ways to see the multitude of passes that exist. His suggestions for base camp towns always seemed to lead to the most picturesque, quaint spots. Hermann's directions, with their accompanying, simple to use maps, never led us astray. From his wealth of experience, he shares little gems that one would more than likely miss on one's own. We highly recommend this book for anyone planning a tour in the Alps, with a tour company or on their own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Guide To Motorcycle Heaven!, February 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Motorcycle Journeys Through the Alps and Corsica (Paperback)
This is an outstanding guide to the best riding roads in the world. I recently took an organized motorcycle tour of the Alps. Good thing I took this book with me, as it quickly became my guide. Others on the tour were wondering how I found all the great roads!! If you are going to tour the Alps, buy this book now! Rates all the passes, with a short recap on each one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!!, January 25, 2002
By
Carlos Permuy Llambias (Mahon, Balearics Islands Spain) - See all my reviews
I use to go on travel with my motorcycle just one or two times a year. I'm really busy and I haven't too much time to plan these travels so I bought this book thinking it could help me to plan a travel by the Alps. But it was a surprise!!! All the travel was perfectly planned in this book! Hotels, Restaurants, special places, roads, etc. Just a little deception: the pictures are black and white!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for touring the Alps - by bike or by car, August 8, 1998
By A Customer
We took a copy of this book along on a week-long tour of Switzerland & northern Italy, doing several of the trips in the book and staying at the hotels recommended by the author. We were driving a small Ford car, not a motorcycle. Even through the book was written for bike riding, it's as useful for old-fashioned car trips. The author clearly knows all the back roads and interesting places. Wonderful book to take along touring the Alps. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have guide for touring the Alps., December 16, 1997
By A Customer
This is a very well written book with a generous amount of photos and maps to help the reader visualize Mr. Hermans suggestions. There are many alternative tours presented. It is easy for the reader to use this book to plan a facinating trip that includes where to go, what to eat and where to stay, while having a wonderful time. A must have guide to traveling the Alps

5.0 out of 5 stars A great time saver, October 25, 2011
This review is from: Motorcycle Journeys Through the Alps and Corsica (Paperback)
I have taken this book on 4 alps/Italy trips and it has saved me so much time in looking for things.

I do not use it as a bible because I like to do my own thing and have ridden most of the routes that the author mentions. But I like the way he combines different routes and gives ideas of how long the trip should take.

There is lots of advice that can be used by experienced alps riders and the novice alps rider.

This is the only guide I take and it does not let me down.

"The bible" of touring Western Europe, by motorcycle, pedal bike or auto. Mr. Hermann has produced " a must own" publication if one is planning a trip through Western Europe and wishes to be part of the history and scenic beauty that captures the essence and beauty that this region has to offer.
