It's like a virtual motorcyle trip.,

This review is from: Motorcycle Journeys Through the Southwest (Paperback)
This books gives some pretty cool descriptions on different areas in the Southwest including Southwestern Colorado. My husband and I are familiar with the Colorado chapter and it was as though we were going through it again. Except it was in words and in our minds. My husband is going to take the recommendations and ride from the Chicago Area to the Taos New Mexico area. I will follow 2 days behind him with kids in tow. The author also provides valuable information on watering holes as well as places to eat. In desert areas you want to be prepared as to where the last gas station is. The author also gives explicit details on road conditions which makes the trip a lot easier to palette knowing where the "bad" spots are. Either you choose to ride gingerly through it or go around. I highly recommend this book. It's a good read and it contains lots of valuable information.

This book is very well written with the motorcyclist in mind. Recommended camping areas, off the beaten path type routes and recommended stops along the way. Well put together and a good read, highly recommended.

It is getting too cold to do many of these, but I have started my planning.
I live in one of the 4 corners states, but was not aware of several of the trips/tours detailed in this book. I like to go to Colorado for skiing in the winter and stream fishing in the summer. Several of the tours are centered in one of my favorite areas. Each set of day tours is centered around a "base camp". The author is big on campgrounds, but I will find an inexpensive motel to use as my "base camp". A group of day tours is connected by a "trail" that takes you to the next "base camp". Hopefully, I will be planning trips for years to come, based on the ideas presented in this book. Good riding!

This book reads a lot like most travel books- it describes where to stay and eat, and what to do that's fun. Its description of the roads and traffic could be enhanced.I have found it helpful in planning some trips into the area, although it suggest that I take a lot longer to visit everything than I have- a lot longer. All in all, I'm glad I bought it and have found it useful.

This review is from: Motorcycle Journeys Through the Southwest (Paperback)
This is a well researched, well written riding reference. It has been added to the motorcycle trailers library for referencing rides in areas we travel to while vacationing. The turn by turn directions area very well written and every ride loop we have done to date has been as described.

This book not only shows you the great roads in the southwest, it also tells you quite a bit of history along the various routes. Very well done.

OK reference, but don't use it exclusively. I have several books I consult when planning a ride. This book will give you several tid bits, but I could have written a better book on my own.
