2.0 out of 5 stars Maybe I'm not Dummy Enough June 14, 2008
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
By the third mention of Angelina Jolie riding a motorcycle in Chapter 1 to justify the "coolness"of motorcycling the book has already started to go downhill. With the exception of a few chapters (buying a first bike: what you should know & keeping your bike in tiptop shape) I have found most of the other chapters read so far (which in fairness is only about half) to be total fluff and of little value. Worst off, some of the valuable chapters seem to have little added value when compared to the FREE DMV material. Unless you really have to know the "Ten Must-See Motorcycling Movies" save some money, use the internet when you have questions and take an intro level rider training course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't let the title fool you December 4, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
If you already know how to ride great it has info for you too! To unlearn mistakes someone else told you cause they were wrong on what someone else told them. I'm a truck driver and hhave to driver for everyone else to. People in cars pay no attention theese days! So when you ride your scoot you should be more alert than a truck driver. At any given second you can loose your life. I recomend this book. Try some of the skills they show you and you will be a safer and bettter rider! If you feel this book isn't for you cause your cool, wait untill you taste asphalt

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of information March 2, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is well organized and well written. It touches on almost every aspect of riding and owning a motorcycle. My only complaint is that I hope for more information on learning to ride a motorcycle and this author directs only to take the local state approved riding classes. Other than that, it answers all my questions and is a great reference to go back to for information.

I recommend this book to any new motorcyclist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bought as gift it is what you think it is March 7, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this as a gift for a friend who is getting into motorcycles. He said that the book was pretty basic, but good for a beginner. Which makes sense because the book is motorcycling for dummies and the for dummies series is basically just a for beginners series. Anyway, if you want something more technical this isn't it, but for the basics this is good enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scooter now motorcycle later! December 5, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I took a motorcycle safety class and the instructor recommended this book. I have read other books for dummies and thought they were complete waste of time, I am very skeptical about a book for dummies. I found this book very informative and educational without being presumptuous or condescending to a non motorcycle person. I have a scooter now but I want a motorcycle!

A lot of information. Would have liked more illustrations. I also thought the repair information was not detailed enough for a novice.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dumb!
This book is hard to read! It's full of stupid koolaid drinker advice. You can't be a "biker" without wearing thousands in name brand (read Harley) gear. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good book.
Good info for beginners. From riding to insurance to buying your first bike to clothes, very well written book in the "for dummies fashon" of books.
