This review is from: Motordeath (Audio CD)
The Atomiks: Motordeath, is much like the month after which this review is named; it comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb (at least in most places anyway). This isn't by any means to say that the songs towards the end of the album aren't as good as the first bunch, simply that they're softer, and perhaps a little more heartfelt.
The Atomiks themselves are a garage/independent rock and roll band, very reminiscent of 60's acts like Canned Heat, and just about anyone else from the mod era that bothered to put on a suit.
Anyhow, that's what's on the album, and it's pretty damn good. The opening tracks blast you (the listener) with the kind of rolicking spirit and haphazard musical tomfoolery that makes low-class rock'n'roll fun to listen to. Beyond that, the energy tapers off gradually, evening out in the last third of the album with some very sweet little ditties where the band show off their musical prowess, even throwing in a flute in one track and a saxophone in another.
There's really no bad songs on this album, it's easy to listen to all the way through, and if you're the right kind of music lover, you might even find your heart touched by a few of the tracks. Definitely worth buying, and listening to over and over again. Especially on a long drive.
