5.0 out of 5 stars If any album deserves to be called a "landmark" this is it.
Without this album,or this band, the evolution of "Heavy/Thrash Metal" would have been totally different or not at all.If this record had not been released and Motorhead had folded(which was a distinct possibility at the time)then it is conceivable that you would not now have the Metallicas and Slayers of this world. Without this album,or this band, the evolution of "Heavy/Thrash Metal" would have been totally different or not at all.If this record had not been released and Motorhead had folded(which was a distinct possibility at the time)then it is conceivable that you would not now have the Metallicas and Slayers of this world. What has to be understood about this album is the musical environment it was released into.At the time there was NOTHING that sounded like this or was as heavy as this and it took the rock fraternity of the time and blew the top of its collective head off. This is also a damned good album and most of the songs here are classics, real rip-roarers that have stood the test of time.OK,by todays standards the recording quality is not quite up to scratch but don't let that bother you.Just turn your hi-fi up as loud as it can phisycaly go and enjoy an album which changed the course of rock forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Motorhead - self-titled (Roadrunner), November 29, 2006
This review is from: Motorhead (Audio CD)
Originally released in 1977,a year or two after Lemmy exited Hawkwind. As most of you probably know, this is Motorhead's stunning debut record. So good to finally get it on CD.Simply outstanding British metal.Does it get any better than this?I could listen to this CD two or three times in a row,it's THAT good. Tracks that more than make this disc a true keeper are the opener, title cut-the band's namesake "Motorhead", "Lost Johnny", the slammin' "Iron Horse/Born To Lose", "Keep Us On The Road" and "City Kids" (also liked the Pink Fairie's version of this tune). Plus you get four(4)bonus cuts tagged on. Line-up: Lemmy-bass&vocals,Larry Wallis(former Fairies member)-guitar and Lucas Fox(R.I.P.)-drums. So highly recommended,it hurts.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Is Motorhead... They Play Rock'n'Roll, October 27, 2010

This review is from: Motörhead (Audio CD)
Everything that makes Motorhead great to this day was already in place. Stripped down, fast, aggressive hard rock with a punk attitude. And since I mentioned it, this recording often comes far closer to punk than metal. Everything that makes those early punk albums so much fun is here. Minimal production, raunchy, simple guitar, no pretensious vocals. Well written, well constructed songs abound just as I expect when I purchase a disc by this band. And this is so much fun!! Motorhead is a blast, from here all the way to Motorizer, and every stop in between. Every line up and every album have their good points.

Every song on here's a keeper. I've heard numerous versions of the song that gave this band their name and I love every one, from Hawkwind to the current live versions. Train kept A Rollin' has been covered dozens of times by dozens of bands, but does it get better than this? And what great bonus cuts! Songs like On Parole capture that early rock'n'roll feel of the 50's, but kick it up a few notches. To this day Lemmy starts every concert by proclaiming, "We're Motorhead, and we play rock'n'roll". That sums it up perfectly.

This review is from: Motörhead (Audio CD)

Sometimes I am amazed at the killer stuff that goes unnoticed in this place. MOTORHEAD the first album by MOTORHEAD with that KILLER opening song MOTORHEAD is one of the greatest things I have ever, EVER heard.
SO LOUD MAN, SO VERY VERY LOUD. SO very excellent.

I forgot that this band was responsible for that ACE of what?

This album is no less than, THE BALLS!

Somebody tell these guys to post a frieken' picture, people are gonna think this one dissapeared! OR WILL NEVER KNOW OF IT!

Something must be done. DO YOU KNOW THIS ONE? If not BUY IT.

The perfect meld of punk energy and hard rock is realized on Motorhead's self-titled album. This is music that demands to be heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Motorhead - Heavy Metal Reborn, April 26, 2002

Britain 1977, the old 70s giants: Zep, Purple, etc are dead, the young punk upstarts had killed them off and they probably deserved it. Punk was hard and fast enough but something was missing - it was a bit lightweight. Then BOOM!!! I heard Motorhead. That opening title track blew me away, now this was full on hard fast maniac metal like I had never heard. A trio of full on headbangers, Lemmy played that bass like a madman, Fast Eddie's guitar fitted perfectly and the whole track was propelled along at lightning pace by Philthy Phil's drumming. The album is worth getting for this one track alone, a track which announced a new kind of heavy metal, one of those rare works that changes an entire genre. A must have for any serious metalhead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelente Motôrheadache, July 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I still preffer my On Parole, beautiful vynil. The sound on that on is more sixty-ish; on this (Motörhead), it at times sounds a lot like 'modern' Motörhead.
Listen to this one and pick any of the '90s/'00 and you will realize they had this metal punch from the beggining. I'd say this one is even heavier than those who followed it (Bomber, Overkill).
Have no doubt: this is Motörhead. And like Lemmy says on the concerts nowadays: "Hello, we are Motörhead, and we play rock and roll". Yeah!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad, they get better, April 21, 2011
This review is from: Motörhead (Audio CD)
Motorhead are one of the great metal bands. This early effort contains several covers - Motorhead, The Watcher and Lost Johnny are all Hawkwind songs, City Kids is a Pink Faries cover - bands that Lemmy gigged with prior to his Motorhead days. (He was in Hawkwind and they gigged alongside Pink Faries a lot in those days).

To give them credit, whist they are still learning to break away from Lemmy's Hawkwind past with this album, it stands the test of time and is a good Motorhead release. They get better over time but this album should be added to any Motorhead collection as an indication of where they came from and what shaped their distinctive sound.
