5.0 out of 5 stars Motorola Stereo Gateway works great with my hearing aids

I recently upgraded my hearing aids to a pair of Phonak aids and I purchased the phonak iCom. I did this so I could make a blue tooth pairing with my cell phone. With the Motorola Dc800 Bluetooth Stereo Gateway I am also able to hear my stereo, my TV, etc. in stereo through my hearing aids. I do not have to turn the volume up a drive the rest the family out of the room. Late at night if I want I can watch listen to music without anyone else hearing it. And I have stereo pumped through my hearing aids as I walk around the house. This is freedom for hearing aid patients like me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Blue Tooth TV sound adapter, March 4, 2010

Bought this adapter to use with Oticon hearing aid blue tooth "streamer" to listen to TV or stereo sound through the hearing aids. Hearing aid people sold their brand of TV adapter for $175, but it had major problems with interference. The Motorola device costs a lot less and works like a charm. No interference. Very powerful transmitter works throughout the house at distances further than normal bluetooth. Easy to set up and use. A really good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome for TV, not in sync for TV, April 6, 2010
This review is from: Motorola 89015J Dc800 Bluetooth Stereo Gateway (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I bought the DC800 gateway 2 years ago and have paired it with many different devices. Headsets, receivers, dongles, phones. No complaints on the range or the quality of sound. I stream Pandora from my computer to my stereo all the time. There is a slight delay with the transmitted music, so there is an echo effect if the computer speakers are playing the music too. The computer is on the opposite side of my house so it really doesn't matter for me. Watching TV is out of the question, as the picture and the sound do not sync. I would say there is a .25 sec delay. So not real bad, just annoying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, October 15, 2009

I've had the DC800 for about 2 years. I've used it to stream mp3 music from my Motorola Q-Phone running Windows Mobile, my iPhone, and my MacBook Pro all to the DC800 which is plugged into my stereo receiver. It works fabulously. I'm able to roam quite a bit from the DC800 without losing signal. It's great to have your music in your pocket (on the couch, or cooking in the kitchen) and be able to control the music.

I actually bought the DC800 to see if I could use it as a wireless audio system for playing live music with a band, but find the latency of a bluetooth system to be too great and it puts me out of sync with the other musicians, so unfortunately this won't work for practice or on stage. The delay is between .25 and .4 seconds.

I actually bought the DC800 four months ago, but never used it up to this point, since I have bluetooth capability from my laptop (I usually listen to most of my music from the laptop).

But just for the heck of it, I hooked it up to my laptop the other day and I was more than pleasantly surprised! Originally, I didn't think much of it because it comes with an AC cord, so how portable is that? But then I realized that it would also receive power via a USB-to-Mini-USB cord plugged into the laptop; therefore it extended portability exponentially.

Currently, I have it paired with Motorola HT-820 (easy pairing) headphones and the fidelity is great. What surprises me most, however, is the power of the signal to the headphones. If I were to use the bluetooth capability currently built into the laptop, I get an effective listening radius of around 20 feet, worse between walls (the signal becomes quite unreliable beyond that).

But with the DC800, the effective listening distance easily EXCEEDS 30 feet, even through walls. This is quite possibly the most powerful bluetooth device I've ever used. I used it at work today, and I was able to walk from my cubicle to the store room, which is behind two walls, and probably 50 feet away. The signal to the headphones was still strong and reliable--no drop outs.

In summary, I'm very pleased with the performance, and, incidentally, the portability of this device (if you're carrying a laptop). My only regret is that I didn't start using it a long time ago!

3.0 out of 5 stars Works well except for annoying pause in audio, June 9, 2010

I am not sure why this happens and sometimes it only does it once or twice in 30 mins, but there is a annoying pause in the audio stream. I am connected to my home stereo so the pause is not caused by a lag in a computer stream for example. This is really annoying when watching a movie.

Other than the occasional pause in the audio, the range is decent and it works as advertised.

After you set up the DC800, it just sort of melts into the background like it should. I use it to connect my Android Phone to my tube amplifier at home. The sound is great and connecting to the DC800 is simple. I would recommend this for someone who is looking to add bluetooth support to an existing home stereo system.

This product works great as both a transmitter and a receiver. I was not able to tell from the description, so I'll tell you now, it does not do both at once. If you pair headphones to it, then it works as a transmitter. Whatever you feed to the input on this unit will be transmitted via Bluetooth to the headphones. This functionality works great.

If you want to use it as a receiver, you can pair your mobile phone to it. Then start up the music on your mobile phone and connect the output on this unit to your stereo. You'll be listening to your tunes through your stereo with your phone in your pocket. Nice!

Everything works as expected. And for such a reasonable price. I only gave it 4 stars because if you try to implement both scenarios, transmit and receive at the same time, only the first thing paired works. But as long as you know that going into it, this is a great unit.
