4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price
Ok, for $29 this is not bad!! It was easy to pair with my Motorola V710-about 1 minute after I found the correct menu, I think it was "connection". Made lots of calls (from house, car and outside) Everyone I spoke to said I sounded great. It looses 1 star because it is not the smallest or lightest. Good fit on the ear-and I wear glasses. Battery is still going...

3.0 out of 5 stars works good for me, but with exceptions, so you decide.
just got an 805 from fry's for 49.99. i like it because it uses an AAA battery. i can just use my nimh rechargeables. don't have to get a separate car charger or even worry about the battery diminishing. so lets go for the pros and cons.

using with a samsung D500. my first bluetooth headset.

+plenty loud at max volume. seems like most of the time...

using with a samsung D500. my first bluetooth headset.

+plenty loud at max volume. seems like most of the time for normal conversations i'll have it at 50-75%. just fine in the car with windows up of course.

+friends say i sound fine. wouldn't have known i was on a headset.

+connects fine.

+buttons seem straight and to the point. connect, disconnect, power on/off, then volume up/down. just the way i like it.

+light. super light in weight.

+estimated 22hrs talktime with AAA battery! wow. even half that would be great.

-looks bulky. i like the look of the samsung hbh-300. but who cares really, as long as it works i say.

-big downer- gets static when the phone is in either of my pants pockets. isn't this bluetooth v1.2? c'mon, all i need is one more foot of clarity. otherwise, it must be in the line of sight.

-feels like it's flimsy and may fall off my ear, but i can shake my head and it doesn't fall off. i think at worst is it tilts out and in if you shake. i guess i just gotta trust that it's secure over time.

========

:final words: i can live with it if i had to. the price is reasonable compared to the others, although i would like to find one for cheaper if i end up sticking with this model.

:recommendation: well.. i haven't tried others yet, but if you can get it for cheap and don't mind that it needs to be in the line of sight of the phone, sure.

I bought this headset for internet chats with my husband, when he travels for business. I find it comfortable to wear and easy to use. The sound quality is good, volume more than adequate and my husband does not hear any echo.

I like the fact that it uses an AAA battery instead of a charger. All you need is a spare battery and no worries about the device dying when the internal battery dies. (Even rechargeables do not last forever.)

The ear wrap is comfortable and stays securely on my ear. It would be nice if it bent for a custom fit, but I am pretty happy with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love this Headset, November 2, 2005

I have not had any of the problems others have had. This headset always works, the sound is clean and clear at both ends. Yes, it may be slightly heavier than other Motorola models but it is comfortable and I do not notice the extra weight. I like the AAA battery because I use it for 2 weeks at a pop without the same issues my friends have with their newer rechargeable versions. After 2 weeks I put in another NIMH and never have run out of battery.

1.0 out of 5 stars Flawed Battery Cover, December 28, 2005

I've had this bluetooth headset for about 5 months now, and overall I was happy with its performance, but just recently I kept losing my connection with the phone. The problem is a horribly flawed battery cover. It has become worn and will no longer stay closed. When it opens, the battery connection is broken and the device is turned off. I payed about $50 for this unit, and it is now worthless because of a battery compartment design that probably cost less than 5 cents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpectedly Good!, July 20, 2005

I have recently upgraded to a Motorola V551 and acquired a Plantronics M2500 Bluetooth headset for use with it. While the M2500 has a much smaller physical profile, it does not seem to be 100% compatible with the Motorola. It sometimes connects, sometimes doesn't. After 3 months, the little multi function switch/wheel broke on the Plantronics.

I searched for a better, similarily priced replacement and came across the HS-805. Being one of the lower priced Motorola offerings, I am not surprised that the plastic casing is not of premium quality, however, it does feel rigid enough to not crack or break easily. My only concern was the volume of the speaker since it rests flush with the unit and leaves a lot of 'open space' around the earhole for external noises to interfere. This does not really cause a problem because in real life usage, the speaker volume is pretty loud!

Added to the flexibility of using a regular AAA battery just sweetens the deal that much. Last but not least, it pairs and connects with the V551 without a hitch. Each and everytime. I think the HS-805 is the best valued Motorola Bluetooth headset out there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good headset but has its flaws, April 9, 2006
This review is from: Motorola HS805 Bluetooth Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
This is my second bluetooth headset so I am able to compare this with my previous one (a Plantronics M2500). Overall it is not a bad headset but it does have some flaws.

*** Plus points include:***

- uses a single AAA battery so there is no need to lug around a charger when traveling. This alone is reason enough to make many people consider this headset over others.

- Great battery life. I don't understand the user that complained of only getting 1 hour of standby time. Normally I get about 5-7 days standby with 4-5 hours talk time on a AAA rechargeable that is already somewhat depleted. A fully charged AAA or a AAA alkaline should do far better!

- fits snugly on the ear and is relatively low profile...although some users are right in that occasionally it feels like it might fall off the ear even though it is snug.

- Great price from Motorola dot com. I got this for $23 bucks with a leather pocket clip (including shipping).

- No internal battery so you won't have to throw it away when the battery dies (the plantronics has a non replaceable internal rechargeable so when the battery dies in 1-2 years you will have to buy another headset).

*** Negative Points Include: ***

- The side multifunction button is too easy to press accidentally so occasionally I end up redialing the last call.

- The plastic is a little too lightweight so if you drop it, it will get scratched.

- Switching ears is not as straightforward as it was with the Plantronics headset. You have to remove the earpiece clip and then reprogram the volume buttons. It doesn't take long but it is still a hassle compared to the Plantronics which only requires you to rotate the rubber ear insert.

- The volume is definately not as high as the plantronics headset but it should be adequate for most people in most situations.

- The light does not give you any clue as to the status of its battery. The Plantronics will start flashing a red light when the battery gets weak whereas the motorola just starts beeping. Great if you have it on your ear but not so good if you have it sitting on your desk or in the leather pocket clip.

- The motorola does seem to have a lower range than the plantronics. I am not sure if that has to do with the battery not being fully charged but I was able to use the Plantronics downstairs while my phone was upstairs whereas the Motorola will lose the connection as soon as I get to the base of the stairs.

Overall the Motoroal HS805 is a great headset for first time bluetooth users or for anyone who travels a lot or talks a lot and does not want to lug around a power adapter, but if you want a lot of the latest features then you should look elsewhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not A Bad Headset, July 13, 2006

I recently purchased this Motorola HS805 headset and find it more than adequate. For the price, it is worth every penny. The ability of using AAA batteries puts it above all other headsets in that respect. Nonreplacable rechargable batteries are a gimmick. Once they finally die, your headset is useless. Too expensive to send away to repair. So you throw your headset and charger away and buy a new one. That is good for a company but not for you.
Depending on your ear structure the fit can be either formfitting or loose. From reading the other reviews here one can infer this. For me it is formfitting. Also you may infer that the Bluetooth telephone or device it pairs to would make a difference in performance. Some reviewers here felt that this headset had low volume or allowed some static. For me and others, we experienced no such problem.
Best bet is to check the return policy if you find that it doesn't meet your standards. But if it works for your device, you have a headset that goes 16 days of standby and 22 hours of talk time on 1 AAA Alkaline battery!. And you will never be bothered with a charger unless you use rechargable AAA batteries which is a pretty good idea. If it also fits your ear comfortably then you have a winner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good battery life; typically OK sound; reasonable ear piece; good value for money, June 10, 2006

The battery life on this unit is great. I can use it daily for an hour or so every day, on a single AAA for at least two weeks. (It appears from other reviews that this can vary a lot.)

I use this headset with both a Treo 650 phone, and a Apple PowerBook G4. On the Apple, I can use it as a generic output device. (I'm sure the same goes for other headsets.) The signal is strong enough on the Apple to use it from about 30 feet away; on the Treo 650, the signal is not nearly as good.

The sound is OK. It's not the best. If it's noisy -- e.g., like driving, or in a hotel room with the air conditioner fan blowing full-blast -- OR if the person on the other end is not talking very loudly, then it's sometimes hard to hear.

It'll drop audio -- i.e., the call goes back to my cell phone -- when the battery is getting low. You can milk it a while longer, but that's really your first clue about the battery.

The earpiece is OK; it's not as secure as I'd hope. If you're outside in a gust, you may want to hang on to it.

Also, people on the other end sometimes can tell I'm on a headset with this one -- they mention that I sound a little staticky.

This is my first bluetooth headset, so perhaps my rating is higher just because it's a nifty gadget. But the battery life on this is really the winner -- my work-mates have rechargeable headsets, and it seems like they're always having to charge them. I use rechargeable NiMH AAA's, and they just last a really long time with this unit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent but flawed, February 2, 2006
This review is from: Motorola HS805 Bluetooth Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I've owned several bluetooth headsets, currently I have this one, I talk on the phone a lot in the car and thats mainly where I use it, I like the concept of a replaceable battery, I use Nimh rechargeables and sometimes alkalines, here is the main problem, when the battery gets low but nowhere near dead the headset beeps incessantly even if you are on a call ! why cant it just beep once ! Otherwise the unit is good, the ear clip is Ok but not great, sound is good but could go louder, look elsewhere for a better headset.
