The most un-reliable electronic device I have ever owned,
By Mokume1 (808 state) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Motorola Rival A455 Phone, Tin Silver (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
Notice that the title here says 'electronic device' and not cell phone, to date this is got to be the WORST excuse for anything electronic I have owned (saddled with), ever...
Since receiving this woeful POS from Verizon as an exchange for another Motorola device that also had problems, I have experienced frustrating issues with it from the get go. The current excuse for a cell phone is currently number 8, that's right, number 8 since July of 2009, not counting the original issue, for a total of nine of this despicable thing All of them, with varying degrees of reliability, have experienced dial pad touchscreen lockup at one time or another. Simply put, the touchscreen becomes un-responsive when attempting to enter digits, as in entering PIN numbers while checking voice mail, telephone banking, etc. I can run my finger all over the screen and nothing happens, absolutely nothing at all, the only way to get it to respond is to either end the call or clear the screen then re-enable it. Some replacements displayed this annoying quirk the first time it was used, others have performed as designed for a month, none of them for over a month. Verizon (Motorola) insists on sending me 'like-new' refurbished units of this thing via FedEX 2nd day, which is fine, it's their money. The only way for me to exorcise this phone from my life is to sign up for another contract and get a different phone, but they want another commitment from me, and that is not going to happen. Or to accept a 'qualified' replacement, the Samsung Intensity which cannot even begin to compare with the features of a Rival Who knows what number Rival I may be on by the time the 1 year warranty runs out on this thing, it makes no difference. At that time I will cancel my now month to month service with Verizon and get an IPhone from AT&T, I don't care if I am on number 100 A455 at that time. If this site would let me leave negative stars in it's rating I would certainly do so, the amount of these stars would run off the screen. I certainly hope someone from both Verizon and Motorola is reading this, never again will I purchase ANY of your services or products in any shape or form. You have been warned, run as far and fast as you can from this satanic thing.

Good for a bit,

After going to the verizon store and purchasing this phone, it was great for the first two months. Then randomly, the screen became unresponsive and changed to a weird pinkish blueish color since my background was the one shown below.
I went to the verizon store and they said it was a hardware problem and they gave me a "Like new" phone. It was garbage. The buttons were unresponsive, the backlight on the keypad didnt work. So three days later, i went back to the store and got this POS i have now. The buttons on the front were sticky, and didnt work 90% of the time, and the circular button stuck to the left. The backlight didnt work that well either, and the buttons wouldnt respond either. Now i talked to verizon and they are sending me a differnt phone, like new they say. Hopefully its better than this one....

Not reliable,

This review is from: Motorola Rival A455 Phone, Tin Silver (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I am currently on my third motorola rival. The original one was having glitches since the day I bought it, until it completely stopped working and the screen wouldnt light up. Verizon then sent me a new one because it was under warranty and within 3 hours of activating the phone the touch pad was no longer working. I got my third one yesterday and am already having problems with it, it restarts itself and there is some wierd call waiting issue that I can't even describe. Let it be known that the last two were not brand new phones they were "certified like-new" phones that verizon supplies to people whose phones break under warranty, but I still would not recommend this phone to anyone that doesn't want to be at the verizon store 5 times in a one week period.

The Worst Phone of all time.,
This review is from: Motorola Rival A455 Phone, Tin Silver (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
This Phone is total Garbage. It cannot multi task, so if you are getting a text message while listening to music, you will get the message, but it will not return to your music. Text messages will show fail, fail, fail, and they may or may not have been received by the recipient. Text messages can take forever to send. It is Motorola's worst by far.

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE,
This review is from: Motorola Rival A455 Phone, Tin Silver (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I am so upset with the performance of this phone. I agree with the other review, this is the worst piece of electronics I have ever owned too. DO NOT BUY THIS. I and anyone else who bought these phones should be given the option to trade them in for credit towards another phone. I've never had so many problems with a cell phone. POINT BLANK THIS PHONE IS GARBAGE, DO NOT BUY IT!!

I've had many phones in my days, I've never EVER returned one with a problem. I've never had problems with any other phone over the years, including My razor that I owned for 5 years.
I'm on my 3rd RIVAL in 5 months, all with the same problem, they shut off on their own, u open the slider, and it'll freeze, and then turn itself off. Nice, considering I have this phone for emergencies. I'm a mom with 2 kids and one has asthma, I can't have my phone shut off on me, Verizon still insists on replacing them, I just want a different model, not the same ol piece of crap that's gonna break down. DO NOT GET THIS PHONE. Worst mistake ever!!!!

Terrible Electronic Device,

I agree with the previous reviewer in saying that this is NOT a phone, more of a malfunctioning electronic device. I suggest if you buy this product make sure to get a warranty, as you will be taking advantage of that often. I am now on my 6th version of this phone, all have been terrible. At least Verizon ships me them within 2 days of complaining about the current one they sent me.
What a terrible piece of junk, the touch screen will go off by itself, it freezes, etc etc. JUNK!

I can't begin to explain how many times I have kicked myself for not doing any kind of research on this idiotic phone before I got it. Everything every other person has described about this phone has happened to me - although I returned my first 'refurbished' piece of crap to Verizon, and thought I'd stick it out until I got the 'new every two' option next spring. Last night, the thing completely shut down - or, rather, the display did, and those of you who are unfortunate enough to own one of these know - there's nothing you can do on this POS without a display. YOU CANNOT DIAL THE PHONE. And, of course, it did this 5 days after the warranty ran out. FIVE. DAYS. Absolutely the worst piece of crap I have EVER had the misfortune of owning. When I get my new phone, I plan to run this thing over with the lawn mower, jump up and down on it, burn it, anything to get it out of my life. I hate it that much. So, consider yourself warned. It sucks big pieces of crap - and now I am roped into two more years with Verizon because I was in the middle of my contract, couldn't afford a full price new phone, and took what I could get on an 'upgrade' from them. Oh, and this all happened on a trip with my four year old daughter...so I get to drive home (4 hours) tomorrow with a 4 year old and no phone.

Defective Mobile Phone,
By
This review is from: Motorola Rival A455 Phone, Tin Silver (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I got this phone in August. For the first few months, it worked wonderfully. It lagged a little when receiving a text message and it occasionally turned off when I slid it shut, but I'm a patient person so that didn't bother me. After about 8 months of owning this phone, it suddenly broke. The screen was white when on and was completely unresponsive. Motorola sent me a replacement, refurbished Rival under my manufacturer's warranty. Now, after only 4 months of having my replacement phone, this one is also defective. Instead of the full screen being white, every other pixel appears to be white, making it a hassle to use even though the phone is still technically usable.
I'm taking this phone to be replaced as soon as possible. I had a little Samsung flip phone for the full 2 year contract and it worked well until the very end, even after being dropped often. I don't understand how a phone as "crappy" as my old Samsung can be so much more reliable than the Rival.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This phone was given as a Christmas gift and is already broken. It had to be taken to a Verizon store and fortunately is under warranty so they replaced it for free. The new free one broke yesterday and will be taken to Verizon for another replacement. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!!!!!
