My shopping experience for a new mobile 10/24/07,

This review is from: Motorola RIZR Z6tv Black Phone (Verizon Wireless, Phone Only, No Service) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I traded up from a Motorola Razr which I liked for two years using an extended battery and in a fitted case. I liked the Razr because it had excellent call quality, reception, battery life, nice size and fairly well made. So when the time came to trade up, I first went with the Moto RAZR2 V9m a few weeks ago. Being a flip phone, I expected to like it. The call quality was excellent, reception was so-so, build quality was good but the battery wouldn't last for me. I bought an extended battery and even with that I wasn't happy. The other major problem I personally had with it was it was so BIG. The casing scratches SO easily it needs to be in a case. And when you put it in a case, it becomes HUGE. To big for me anyway. So... true size, battery life and so-so reception caused me to return it.
That brought me back to the Verizon store. I made test calls to my home voice mail from about 8 phone models I was interested in. A cell phone needs to have good call quality above all. And I also like phones that cancel out ambient noise so people don't know if you're in a restaurant, a car or at your office. I also do a lot of texting and check email a lot. Impressions while shopping for my new phone on 10/24/07 were: - The Samsung phones seem a bit muted but acceptable. Nice features. u740 is nice but I prefer one handed texting as I multitask. The u620 is great in the text messaging department as you can speak your message and it converts it into text! And it's small. Did NOT like the Gleam in sound quality. - The LG VX8700 is an excellent phone! Excellent call quality, maybe the best. They make an extended battery for it too. Also, it has a better interface so it is more fun to use. - The LG 9400 just had unacceptable call quality. enV is cool but not happy with call quality. Fun to use phone...will be replaced by newer model next month. Not small. - The Juke is cool if you like a small phone with nice music features. Good call quality. - The Chocolate sliders just missed the sound quality mark for me. - I felt that the KRZRs were a bit `last year'. Nice size, good sound. So, I tried a MotoRIZR Z6tv. I liked lots of things about it. Decent call quality, small, well made, all the features of the current line up of Verizon phones like Navigator, Chaperone, Bluetooth, etc. Strong signal, excellent speakerphone when you need it, good battery life, uses all my old car and home chargers, nice key pad, easy to use, fits in the hand well. BTW, this phone will also give you Mobile TV, if available in your area, and it'll cost you $$. Dislikes?: Well I have only had this for 4 days. The screen could be bigger but that would take more battery so I'm happy there. The call quality is not as good as the LG8700 or the MotoRazr2 V9m but it is good! Bottom line: The phone is easy to use, feature packed, has all the features I need, nice battery life, camera and video clips are acceptable, good address book, etc. It just plain works well. Seems to be a keeper!

Great phone with impressive call quality and features.,

This is the first time I've reviewed a phone but I think this is the best phone available on Verizon right now. I was using the Razr V3M and while it worked great as a phone I was getting tired with it's lack of features and it's horrible UI. I decided that I was going to go with the Razr2 V9m but had to return it. It was just too big and had a funky hinge. Since I was relatively happy with my Razr and not all that happy with my wifes VX8300's call quality I decided to stay with Moto and get the Z6TV.
What a great phone. It has a camera that takes pretty descent pictures and is a definite improvement over the Razr's camera. The music player also was improved with deeper more rich sounds and deeper base than the Razr or VX8300. I am also impressed with the battery life. I can get about 5 1/2 hours of talk time on a single charge and about 4-5 days of moderate use before it's down to 1 bar of battery. The call quality is stellar with great in-ear feedback so I don't yell into the phone and crystal clear voice sounds. I actually prefer it over a land line. Since I was a long time flip phone user, I was a little leary about getting the phone because I have large hands. But, everything is laid out well on the keyboard and I've had absolutely no trouble using the keypad to dial, surf the mobile web, or text. The TV feature is kinda pointless for me because I don't have coverage where I live but the phone has other features I'm happy with so no big deal. If you are looking for a new phone with great features and even more impressive call quality you can't go wrong with the Motorola Z6TV.

Great Battery, Good Call Quality, Minor Ticks,

I just got this phone from Verizon about 12 days ago. I ordered it online (would have bought it here cheaper, but I have heard some horror stories of ordering phones through Amazon).
The first phone I got was working well, but the backlight on the keypad seemed to go off and on when it pleased. After messing around with it for a while, I called VZ customer service and told them of the problem. They pulled a few strings for me, and allowed me to return the phone to a VZ store (you're supposed to return it by mail if you order it online, but that can take a few weeks of turnaround). I simply traded it in for the same phone. It turns out, though, that the phone has a battery-save feature(much like the RAZR), where the backlight won't go on if the phone senses enough ambient light. This was my initial thought about the matter. However, unlike the RAZR, this is not indicated anywhere, and there's no way to turn the feature off. Thus my confusion. Anyway, onto the review. The Pros: - The battery on this phone is excellent. I conditioned the battery (charged it full, and let it run down to empty before the next charge), and it took a full 8 days of here-and-there use and being on 24/7 for the battery to die. The use included downloads, talking, texting, and using the VCAST Mobile TV for a couple hours. I argue that it could have gone another day or two w/o the Mobile TV use. The first phone I've ever had that EXCEEDS the stated talk/idle time. - The sound on the phone is clear and crisp for the most part. Those that I've called have been surprised to hear that I was on a cell phone. - The features are stacked: Bluetooth, Mobile TV, remote instant messaging, mp3s, voice commands, 2 megapixel camera, etc. Basically, you want it, you got it with this phone. - The microSD expansion. This is excellent for an mp3 phone. The slot is also in an easy to access spot (the top of the phone) instead of a harder to reach area (behind the battery cover). - The outer speaker is excellent for such a small phone. Very clear, and better than expected sound quality (for a phone). - The screen is bright, and even viewable outside on a sunny day. - The lag of the phone is almost unnoticeable. My old RAZR took up to 4 seconds to move from screen-to-screen, but I don't see any type of delay with the RIZR. - The phone is just as small as the RAZR (just a tiny bit thicker), and I don't even notice it in my pocket. - The vibrate feature is very strong, unlike some of VZ's current offerings. - Reception is excellent! - The camera is actually quite decent. Takes clear photos in good lighting, but it is missing a flash. Cons: - The screen is a fingerprint magnet. - Over one call, I heard some VERY light crackling over the line, but it was barely noticeable. - Texting could become a little tedious due to the slimmer design of the keypad. Incorrect keys are hit regularly. By no means is it a chore, but could be an issue for heavy texters. - The above-mentioned battery saving feature. Not an issue, but sometimes the ambient light is just enough to see the keypad. - More of an FYI than a con, but the Mobile TV, while a great feature, does tend to come in a little pixilated, especially for quick moving shots. I didn't expect an HD picture, but its worth a mention. - The bluetooth connectivity isn't very strong...I've lost a Bluetooth signal with only a few feet between the phone and I (not the 10 feet claimed by the phone specs). The sounds is fine, but once outside of a few feet, it drops considerably. I am very happy with the phone thus far, even though I was a little hesitant about a slider (I prefer flip phones). However, the rest of the Verizon line didn't stand up to my in-store tests (texting, calls, sound quality, etc). All paled in comparison to this phone, esp. at this price!

This review is from: Motorola RIZR Z6tv Black Phone (Verizon Wireless, Phone Only, No Service) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Talk quality: Crystal clear. Microphone picks up your voice well even when it's windy outside..
built quality: Rizr Z6tv is a new phone for verizon customers but it's been around for a while (at least a year). A couple of my friends used this phone for about a year and a half and the round center piece came off. Turns out it was just a sticker. I'm hoping Verizon or motorola made some changes with this one but we'll see..:( Battery life: is decent..I use bluetooth headset and talk on the phone for solid 2-3 hours a day and it lasts about 2 days. Bluetooth Connectivity: Easy to pair with a device. I personally own Plantronics voyager 510. However, connection is weak. So I lose connection when I walk downstairs to get something to drink. File transfer (ring tones...etc): I purchased a microsd from walmart and used that to transfer files with ease. However, you can't use your own songs(mp3) as ringtone. Maybe there is a way to do it but I couldn't figure it out so I bought a CD from ebay that allows you to use your own song as a ringtone. Texting: I DO NOT recommend this phone if you text a lot. I have small hands and it's still very difficult for me to text. It's a hassle. Camera/video: Great quality This phone is great if you don't care about texting or file transferring. If you want something more out of a phone then get a blackberry pearl or enV

Love the phone, but.....,

This review is from: Motorola RIZR Z6tv Black Phone (Verizon Wireless, Phone Only, No Service) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I bought this phone about 6 months ago and just love everything about it, except it is now my 3rd replacement. The phone, out of nowhere, just stops being able to be recharged. At first I thought, "Oh just a glitch with this one phone." Then the replacement did the same thing. And then THAT replacement did the same thing. Apparently, I am not alone. The moment I brought the phone back, without my saying a word, the tech said, "Not charging?" Immediately they replaced it. There is a problem with the charging port. At first I thought it was just my bad luck, but after talking to a few others,(who were waiting for their replacement phone for the same problem too) I realized this is really a problem with this phone.
A month has passed since the replacement and so far so good. It would be great if I could just keep taking it in and getting replacements if something goes wrong, but after my 1 year warranty is up, I'm up the creek. I didn't get insurance. ( I was wrongly advised that I had 30 days from purchase to get insurance, apparently you only have 15 days) So, if you are going to purchase this phone, great, but get insurance, you'll need it!

Awesome Phone!,

This phone is pretty awesome. Here are the pros and cons to the phone:
Pros -slim, sleek, slider -2 megapixel camera with landscape option (take pictures horizontally or vertically) -better than the lg chocolate b/c it can hold 10x as many text messages! -it's MOTOROLA!!! -optional storage up to 4gb AND its easily accessible -has TV capabilities -BEST SPEAKERPHONE EVER!!! -awesome call quality -EASILY ADD YOUR OWN RINGTONES (Contrary to what the cellphone-illiterate guy thinks) Cons -only one color scheme (but it is nice looking) -gotta live in VCast area to use TV function(which most people nowadays do) -TV function costs (not expensive though) Overall this phone is great! I used to have the RAZR and I wanted to switch it up from a flip phone to something else. I decided to go with a slider, but didn't want the lg chocolate b/c all lg's can only hold limited texts in there inbox. I'm super glad I chose this phone because it has such a slim and sleek design. It also has SEVERAL new features that make this phone awesome that I mentioned in the Pros section. I highly recommend this phone unless you have extremely large fingers, because after all, it is a very slim phone If you need to know how to add ringtones, pictures, or videos and you have motorola phone tools(MPT) and a cable the connects the phone to your computer, email me at jtg320@gmail.com

Not Good For the Long Term,
By
This review is from: Motorola RIZR Z6tv Black Phone (Verizon Wireless, Phone Only, No Service) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I got this phone about a year ago, and it is a decent phone. But after having it for about a year I really regret my choice. The whole front gets really greasy when your talking on it, you constantly have to wipe the front to be able to see the screen. The thumb bar to push up the slider just fell off, it was just a sticker. Both of the circles in the middle are just stickers too, I'm just waiting for them to fall off. One of the screws just fell out in the back, I don't even know why. My 7 key stopped working, you need to press really hard to make it work.
Overall I like it, and it's a really cool phone because not everyone has it but I wish I would have gone with something a little more sturdy.

I consider myself to be pretty picky when it comes to phones. I've found very few that I've liked in the past 8-10 years. I had an original Razr and while, sleek and impressive in its day...it wasn't a very good phone. It had speaker issues, the operating system was vexingly slow and I simply couldn't trust the thing. I've not had good experiences with Motorola in general.
That said, the Rizr is a great phone. It's the best phone that I've owned because of it's outstanding reception, crystal clear speaker quality, intuitive and fast interface, and the convenient (but not oft thought about) features. It's of a solid build, slides open and closed smoothly but with authority. The only thing that I would change about the phone is the screen, a polarized film would have done well to help with viewing in the sun. Given the whole, this seems to be a very minor issue and it has not been even a bother to me. I love this phone! Oh yeah...and if you're a fan of texting more than talking, this phone would not be ideal for you. If the converse is true, however, it certainly seems to be!

Ive had this phone for about a month and a half now it works great, I get reception reception in many places including many nyc underground subway stations. Although in order to get TV reception u must be somewhere with a strong signal, by the way the picture clarity on the TV programs is very good, much better than on videos. The one negative i have about this phone is that the screen is a fingerprint magnet, I suggest u get a plastic screen protector for it or you will scratch it like i did.

This is truly a five star phone. The only glitch to that rating is that in direct sunlight the screen is hard to see; it is too bad that they didn't polorize it. However, that is hardly a drawback for me.
The phone is stylistically a beautiful item. It is not plastic and has a solid feel in your hand. I like the thumbnail bar that lets you easily slide it up. The screen resolution is just awesome, no other words for it. No flash, but even in interior with low light it is not missed. The feature set is all you could ask for. Network access is super fast and streaming anything is smooth and as high definition as anything I have seen. |
