It will charge a second battery if you need it.

Yes, I know that the PC USB port will also charge the phone, but only while the PC is not sleeping.

I actually like this little docking station a lot. Yeah, it requires a separate cable, but that's a minor point, since I always buy extra cables for business travels.

One thing I'd like to clarify is that both charging and synchronization DO INDEED OCCUR when the docking station is connected to my notebook computer, so I completely disagree with one of the criticisms noted in J. Bailey's prior review. See my comments on that specific review for more specific details (i.e., click the "Comment" link below that review.)

Some of the things that I really like about this dock are listed below:

1) The upright position of the dock allows easy viewing of the phone's screen while charging. (Cable-only chargers usually force you to lay a phone flat on a table or desktop.)

2) The tight fit of the phone in the docking station actually supports the phone well enough to allow typing of quick inputs without removing the phone from the dock and disconnecting the charge/sync process (e.g., answering a call using the speakerphone feature, dismissing or rescheduling a reminder... things that you don't really think about until an event occurs when the phone is connected and you have to quickly decide what to do).

3) It accommodates both regular and extended-life batteries, and allows both the battery inside the phone and a spare battery outside of the phone to charge simultaneously. This is VERY important to me, since I use extended-life batteries, and I always carry a spare with me. So when I return home, I simply plug in the phone and pop my spare into the charging slot behind it. (Cable-only chargers usually only charge the single battery inside the phone, and don't have any way of easily accommodating spares.

After reading reviews here & "user forum's" I decided to purchase this

Desktop Charging Station.

It can charge a secondary battery in the rear compartment AND can charge

the extended life batteries as well while the Q is on the charger.

The "three color" LED indicator is added benefit, w/a simple guide

that is located underneath the unit.

The charger can not "over-charge" the battery which is an added benefit.

And, you can easily access the Q while on the charger for SMS texts, using any app., or even using the speaker phone while on the desktop charger.

This is an excellent product for the Moto Q. I have one at home and one at the office. It charges your spare battery and phone at the same time...so you never run out of juice.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!

This will not work with the AT&T or any other Moto Q smartphones that have the Micro-USB adapter. It has the Mini-USB adapter which is used for older versions of the MotoQ and other non-AT&T models.

I am disappointed because it looks like a well made and convenient piece of equipment. Too bad it won't support the Micro-USB adapter which is the current standard for smartphones.

No fault on the seller as it clearly states in the description this is for Mini-USB. I should have done some more research. I ended up throwing the thing thing away as it's not worth bothering with a return on a $4 item.

This clean-looking & simple little device [ASIN:B000HE8RI6 Motorola Q Desktop Charging Station] & [ASIN:B000HE5298 Motorola Moto Q Dual Pocket Desktop Charging Station] does all it's expected to: Connects Moto Q to Outlook on computer via MS ActiveSync (USB cable), keeps battery charged without removing it from Moto Q (via either USB cable or travel charger - either, not both, at one time), charges a spare battery in a second slot (with travel charger), & Moto Q is fully-functional in device (either USB or travel charger, same as above). No setup required, assuming ActiveSync is already configured for Q via USB cable. Obviously, you have to remove the Q from any case it may be in & then just slide it in the slot with built-in side plug. All in all, very convenient with minimal desktop footprint, and Q can be always charged & ready to go. Note: 'Not sure how long it would take via USB cable, if ever, to charge a fully-discharged battery while it was still in the Q (USB ports have power limitations).... Motorola doesn't recommend charging via USB, but it does seem to work fairly quickly for a battery that isn't deeply discharged.

Motorola should include this with each Motorola Q phone as standard equipment. This should not be an add-on.

The previous reviews helped me finalize my decision to purchase this item. The cradle works exactly as promised. I wanted a desktop cradle so that I wouldn't have to be constantly searching for or tripping over the wire for the charger. As with previous reviews for this product- keep in mind this is only a cradle- you need to purchase the wire for charging seperately or use the charging wire that came with the phone to connect to the cradle. Honestly, I would have paid a slight premium to have the wire connected permanently and have a separate portable charging wire that came with the phone (rather than having to make an entirely seperate purchase for no solid reason). Also the cradle was designed so that you can not keep any kind of protective gear attached while in place (i.e. leather or silcon skin).
