5.0 out of 5 stars Comcast "Dark Silver" Remote
I received a "Dark" silver remote instead of the lighter silver one (which my old one was) shown in the picture, and though it worked fine with my Sony flatscreen and Panasonic HT system, it would not work with my Motorola DCT6200 Cable box - it would not accept the codes to change the default cable box setting, which apparently is a newer device. A bit of searching on...

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work properly
The remote would not activate. It's possible the remote was not compatible with our cable box. I just swapped it at comcast for a new one and everything is fine now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comcast "Dark Silver" Remote, December 2, 2011

I received a "Dark" silver remote instead of the lighter silver one (which my old one was) shown in the picture, and though it worked fine with my Sony flatscreen and Panasonic HT system, it would not work with my Motorola DCT6200 Cable box - it would not accept the codes to change the default cable box setting, which apparently is a newer device. A bit of searching on the Internet turned up this WONDERFUL page, [...] which is a pretty comprehensive wiki on these Comcast remotes. Anyway, I'll get to the part that worked *immediately" to get this to work with my old HD cable box: The Cable device code may be locked on some remotes. To unlock:

press the CABLE button.
press and hold the SETUP button until the CABLE button blinks twice.
Enter 9 - 8 - 2. The CABLE key will blink four times.

Then: Hold SETUP button until the CABLE button blinks twice
Enter 01376 (The CABLE Button should blink twice, indicating that the new code has been accepted)
The remote should now work with the older cable box. There is no need to re-lock the remote to the cable box.

I saw a complaint that a person had to keep hitting "AUX" to control the volume of their audio system - the remote can be programmed to perform that function while being left in the "cable" mode. The same works for the "TV" mode. (This is actually in the manual that comes with the remote)

1.Press and hold the SETUP button until the CABLE button blinks twice.
2.Enter 9-9-3 (light will blink twice)
3.Press and release either the AUX key or the TV key, which will blink twice - now you should be able to control the volume while remaining in the "Cable Box" mode.

I received the remote brand new in the bag from makeawishkid in perfect condition, so I rated it five stars because I'm using the remote on an old box, which isn't the seller's fault.

5.0 out of 5 stars SAVE!, September 25, 2010

Saved me from going to the cable company and purchasing one for over forty dollars! My dogs got a hold of the one from the company, did no visible damage to the oustside but must have crushed something on inside. This remote has been dropped, kicked, sat on, Dog licked, and everything in between with our kids and dogs. Knowing it was brand new, and the merchandise being brand new, must make it that more sturdy. The equiptment we had received from cable company was used. This has stood up so far through it all and SAVED so much money on Amazon!!!

I ordered this remote to replace the remote we got from comcast that wasn't working. It came at the speed of light! I was impressed that it came with batteries and the list of codes to program our television. Programing was easy too! Very happy customer here!

Needed an extra remote for a HDTV I'd sent HD signal and IR signal to in upstairs location to using an HD wireless product and of course having COMCAST cable, this was the exact remote I needed and works just the same as those from COMCAST -- an exact same thing....and the price was right!

I bought this to control a Cisco 150 cable box and a Proscan TV but couldn't make it "connect" with the cable box. I googled the remote and all I could find was techno-speak or statements saying that it simply wouldn't work ("silver" remote won't work with my box, need a "platinum" one). I was about to give up and chalk it up to a bad purchase when I ran across a reply to a review to this remote. The remote may have to be unlocked before it can connect to a cable box, TV and whatever. So, with sincere thanks to commenter B.Benson, here is what he said to do and it worked for me;

Had the same problem until I realized (after some intense research), that the cable code may be "locked". See below for instructions to unlock and set the code for the specific cable box:

The Cable device code may be locked on some remotes. To unlock:

1. press the CABLE button.
2. press and hold the SETUP button until the CABLE button blinks twice.
3. Enter 9 - 8 - 2. The CABLE key will blink four times.

Then, follow the normal programming procedure using the correct code as above for your set-top box. To re-lock the Cable device code, repeat the steps above.

Back to my "problem", the Proscan codes didn't work but the included instructions on using code 9-9-1 to find the code did so the remote now works for both the TV and cable box, despite all the people who said it wouldn't.

4 stars instead of 5 because SOMEWHERE it should have stated that the code may be locked and how to unlock it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, works great right out the box, December 22, 2011

Our remote had one key that got wonky, and rather than go to Comcast and get yet another soon-to-malfunction, very-much-used remote, I decided to take a look at Amazon to see how expensive replacements were -- I see DirecTV remotes at Walmart and the like all the time -- and was very pleasantly surprised to find it, and to find it this cheap. It worked right out of the package (note that there's no programming necessary to work with the cable box but, of course, you'll need to reprogram it if you set it up to use with your other TV devices). It even came with a set of AA batteries.

For the money, it sure beats waiting in a long line and getting a hand-me-down remote.

I can tell you they don't make a good chew toy for a mastiff. Item works great when it has all it's pieces and parts. Item is same as from cable company, arrived quickly, easy to program. I purchased extras for future chewing disasters:)

The old remote was long over due for replacement. Why did I wait so long to replace it when this took seconds to set up???
