I have tried out quite a few baby monitors, and the motorola monitors are the best. I originally purchased the MBP36 which was very good, except it had an unforturnate mishap with the screen of the parent monitor causing some dead pixels. Motorola happily offered to send a replacement, and instead of sending me another mbp36, I received the newer mbp43-2.

I found the reviews of this model were sparse or inaccurate and thus prompted me to post here. Sorry about the length!

The two models are very similar, (except, of course, the mbp43-2 has two cameras which is like mbp36-2). Several reviewers stated that the motorola improved the video quality in the mbp43 -- I did a side by side comparison in different lighting with the zoom turned on and I could not tell a difference. Not a big deal because the quality is good, but any claims of greatly improved resolution are not accurate.

One professional review I found stated the mbp43 does not have temperature sensors on the camera units, which it does. This is a huge feature to me because I can tell if the temperature drops in the baby's room at night (which is does) and how much she needs to be bundled. Different rooms in the house are certainly different temperatures and changing the central thermostat doesn't really let me know how warm it is in the baby's room.

The biggest difference between the two units is the design of the pan and swivel of the video monitor. Anyone can see the difference in the two by looking at the product picture -- the mbp36 is slightly more compact with the ball head sitting very close set into the base. The mbp43 is raised slightly higher with the camera ball attached on either side to a small extension from back of base of the unit.

A year ago we purchased the older model of this monitor. It was replaced under warranty once with the same model, and replaced again under warranty with this newer model. All three monitors have failed in the same way: the audio. We have a child with a medical problem that requires constant observation and we rely on our monitor to keep him safe. Each of these monitors has eventually had the sound cut out. Now that we are near the end of our warranty the third monitor's sound just cut out (thank goodness it didn't happen next week!).

Honestly, I love this monitor! The picture is clear, it supports two cameras for both of our children, it's easy to use, the battery life is fair, and Motorola's customer service has been good. If it weren't for the cutting out of the audio after a couple of months (three times!) this would be the perfect monitor. Unfortunately, my confidence in the product is now gone, and I will be seeking a refund.

We purchased this in August when our daughter was born and I truly feel this is one of the most cannot live without items. My home office is on another floor and I just set this down on my desk and can keep such close tabs on her. The quality is amazing and we could not be happier.

This latest and greatest of the Motorola line isn't significantly better than the older version. We bought the two camera unit to replace an old monitor by a different company because the camera gave out. This seemed like a good pick. Two cameras, nice monitor, decent image quality. But after trying it out, we had some problems...

1. Switching cameras was a pain. It took a total of nine button presses to navigate from one cam to the next. Yes, it has a scan mode (also nine clicks away), but in our instance we don't need to monitor both rooms continually. We need to see the baby most, and only check on the toddler when we think she's getting into trouble. Nine clicks is not something I can do half asleep at 4am, nor do I want to.

2. Out of the box, one camera had a defective temperature reading. Temp isn't a very important feature for us, but given the $$$ of the monitor, it really should work.

3. The video is grainy and just not as clear as other cameras. Especially in low-light settings. It was better than our 2.5-yr-old previous system, but did not seem even as sharp as the video on the older Motorola that we tested in a competitor's store.

4. Zoom also takes more clicks than it should. Actually, most everything does.

In short, there's a monitor out there (the one we ended up buying) that MUST have been designed with parents/the end user in mind. Clear screen, external buttons for zoom, camera switching, volume. This unit seems like it was designed by a bunch of tech-nerds who have never even seen a baby, let alone been awakened by one in the middle of the night.

On the plus side, the Motorola's camera moves silently. Really truly no noise at all.

Had this now for a couple weeks and we are glad that we got it. We first purchased a Samsung 3037 and it actually stopped working after a couple of days and the Samsung unit had a ridiculous startup sound every time you turned it on that was loud enough to wake someone in the middle of the night. We returned for the technical issue but may have returned the Samsung for the startup sound. This Motorola unit has two cameras for about $40 more than the Samsung or even the one camera Motorola and we think this is a great value. It's nice to have one camera permanently on the wall and then use the other camera in any room or when you travel. Monitor quality is solid with picture just being ok, nowhere near the quality of your smartphone, but it gets the job done.
