Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
**Update 11/16/2011**

I didn't put this in my first review because I thought it was my phone and not the headset... but sometimes when I play music the sound cuts in and out. Almost like a very hard static. With my iPhone 3Gs I thought it was because my phone was old and I had dropped it a few times. But when I paired this headset with my iPhone 4s I (at times) heard the same thing. The good thing is that it doesn't completely shut the app like it did with the 3Gs. It's just a few seconds of hard static and then it goes back to the music. It HAS NOT done this with phone calls. I don't know if this is an iPhone pairing thing or what but I find it hard to believe that two phone could be experiencing the exact same problem

************************

Ahhhhh... the wonder of technology. When I first opened the package I was thinking, "how in the world can this device pick up my freaking voice"? One part goes in my ear and the other part wraps BEHIND my ear. How in the... ? Well, once I got over trying to figure it out and started using it I was very, very, very happy. Just for reference I use an iPhone 3Gs and an iPad 2. I think I read somewhere this is best used for Android phones. I only found one instance where having an Android phone with this device is "better", but I'll get to that in a minute:

Charging: charging items are usually a boring and little thought of aspect to electronic devices. Not so with this one (at least with me). Not only does this wireless headset hold a good charge, but even if you were to run it down all you would have to do is put it in its case. The CASE is the charger! How cool is that? The case itself is very small and can easily fit in a purse or even your front pocket. When you do (finally) run out of power all you do is place the headset in the case and plug the case in the wall. The specs say that we have up to 15 hours of talk time with the case. I have yet to get anywhere close to that, but I love the fact that I can just grab the case and go and not have to worry about lugging around yet another cord. The bad news is that if you lose the case, you lost the ability to charge your headset.

Pairing: very easy. When you put on the headset you get prompts from the lady in the sky on how to pair it. I didn't need to use the pass code to pair it for either of my devices but she does give you one should you need it. I did pair it with my iPad 2 but since I don't think you're supposed to(?) it recognized it as "phone 1". To once you turn it off or put it back in its case linking up is automatic as long as your device has the setting to "on". The lady in the sky also let you know once you are connected or become disconnected.

Call clarity: VERY good. I walk my kids to and from school every day. It's about a 50 minute round trip and I am able to hear my callers even on the busy stretch of road. In the house or in the Jeep it's even better because I don't have that outside noise to worry about. You can use the buttons on the headset to adjust volume, end calls, and start calls (if you have voice activation on your mobile device). This device is also a good fit because it wraps around your ear like a glove. I never had to adjust while I was out walking.

Music: Since this is a wireless headset you are able to listen to music as well. BONUS! This is my first Bluetooth headset and I felt like I hit pay dirt when I found this out. Sometimes it's the small things and not having to fight with cords as I'm getting the kids ready or trying to find some misplaced item in my Jeep is one of them.

Battery power: no complaints whatsoever. I will admit that I'm not a phone hog but I do listen to music a lot and I've never gotten close to running out of power, especially since I use the charged case.

The Android connection: I wanted to use the `My MotoSpeak' but that is only for Android phones. With the app you can hear text and reply to texts. I guess since the iPhone has Siri Motorola might have felt the need to not make one for iOS devices. But for folks like me who don't have the iPhone 4s, it would be nice to have that option. But that's small cheese when you take this device as a whole. All in all, I'm very happy with this device.

Bose Bluetooth Series 2 vs. Plantronics Voyager PRO HD vs. Motorola ELITE Silver vs. Motorola FLIP

Cost:
1. FLIP: $60-$75
2. Elite Silver: $80-$100
3. Plantronics HD: $75-$100
4. Bose: Hard to find for less than $130-$150 (check fleabay or your cell provider)
Conclusion: Elite Silver has been dropping in price rapidly. Bose is hard to find discounted.

Ease of use:
1. FLIP: Open it up, it's on, close the flap, it's off. Great for saving battery power.
2. Elite Silver: Turn the ear piece, it's on, turn back, it's off. A little tricky, as sometimes not sure which direction to turn it.
3. Bose: Switch to turn on and off. Answers quickly. Hard to put it on ear quickly. Buttons a little non-intuitive.
4. Plantronics: Hold button down to turn on and off. Has 4 seconds ever felt so long?
Conclusion: Why o why don't more companies adopt the Motorola flip design. I love having a headset that I can sit down next to me, and then when someone calls, pick it up, put it on easily. AND save battery power. Who wants to charge a headset every day?

Features:
1. Flip: Super easy to turn on and off. Best design ever.
2. Elite Silver comes with cool storage case that doubles as a recharger for up to 3 charges. Tells you battery life left over when you put on.
3. Bose: Easy on and off switch (why don't more companies go back to switches)?
4. Plantronics automatically answers the phone when you put it on your ear. However, it doesn't turn it on and off when you do this, so no battery savings. Also tells you how much battery left when you put on.
Conclusion: Love the storage case on the Elite Silver that doubles as a charging station. Love the switch on the BOSE for on/off. But nothing beats the Motorola flip boom mikes for ease/battery savings.

Comfort:
1. Elite Silver: Is lightweight, fit comfortably on ear. Once you figure it out, goes on quick and secure.
2. Bose: Has unique inside earpiece that seems like it won't work, but does.
3. Plantronics: I like the heaviness of this item and love the boom mike (surprisingly, the boom mike didn't help sound quality).
4. Elite Flip: I'm not a big fan of the small string earpieces. It felt lightweight and fragile and non-secure.
Conclusion: I like the secure feel of the Plantronics. It's heavy, locks in on the ear, quick to put on and off, but the boom mike adds little to the sound quality.

Sound Quality: This is a tough category as always. I use mine in the car (road noise) and have a larger head (harder for mike to pick up sounds around my cheeks). Your experience may differ depending on your signal, location, face shape, and usage.
1. Bose: By far the most clear. Loud volume. People could hear me. I could hear them.
2. Plantronics: People could make out my voice (when driving) if I spoke very slowly and carefully. Boom mike did not seem to help.
3. ELITE Silver: I loved the sound of this, but people could not hear me when I spoke. My cheeks too big? The mike too far from my mouth?
4. Elite Flip: Didn't test this one as much, but people struggled to hear me.

Conclusion (ALL). I wish the Elite Silver had better sound quality when driving, because I liked most of the features. If I could design a perfect headset, it would have the flip boom mike of the FLIP. Have the comfort and charging features of the ELITE SLIVER. Have the sound quality of the BOSE. And the easy/on and off of the Plantronics.

Final Assessment:
Bose: Best sound quality. Great fit. Expensive.
Plantronics: Rugged design, nice boom mike. Not good enough vocal quality. Annoying on/off.
Motorola Elite Silver: Great innovations, great comfort. Need to work on their sound quality.
Motorola Flip: LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the flip mike. Very lightweight (pro or con?), unsecure, not good enough sound quality.

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Its hard to find anything wrong with this device. After opening the package, I immediately paired it with my iPod touch and my cellphone.
The process was fast and simple.
The headset design is simple and elegant. The large, curving ear loop is very comfortable - no pricking, like I've had with other headsets. After its been on for a few minutes I tend to forget its there!
The charging unit is small, compact, tough and cool looking. It carries a full backup charge for the headset, which gives the Elite a ten hour battery life and its small enough to fit comfortably in any pocket.
I've always had difficulty using the onboard mic on my iPod to record voice memos, or to dictate text into Dragon.
With the Motorola Elite Sliver, my voice memo recordings were crystal clear.
When I dictated text into Dragon Speech Recognition, I was able to get perfect transcriptions of my speech.
The next task was to use Skype for a phone call. Flawless performance there too. I made the call from the playroom in a local McDonald's restaurant, a noisy environment at the best of times.
Using my cellphone in there, boosted to full volume, its usually difficult to hear, and my iPod's onboard mic couldn't deal with the ambient noise.
With the Elite Sliver, my call was clear. I asked my customer if he could hear the screaming children in the background, and he said no. He also said the signal quality was remarkably clear and was shocked when I told him that I was using a headset.
For my uses, this is one of the best headsets on the market in its price range. I give it my best recommendation!

motorola still lacks quality
This product is garbage. No one can hear you speak. It disconnects 30 feet away from your phone not even close to the 300 they say it will do.
