5.0 out of 5 stars Motorola H500 Bluetooth Headset in Basic Black
Bluetooth cell phone headsets are really a subjective choice... period.

Some love them and others hate them, and some models seem to fit one person's ear (and lifestyle) better than another. That being said, this reviewer will try to offer an (overdue) opinion on what has turned out to be a pretty good choice in a well-made Bluetooth cell phone headset...

I have made my decision that I won't buy any Motorola product.
1. it is not comfy at all. it just hang on your ear. there is no human interface design or consideration.

Bluetooth cell phone headsets are really a subjective choice... period.

Some love them and others hate them, and some models seem to fit one person's ear (and lifestyle) better than another. That being said, this reviewer will try to offer an (overdue) opinion on what has turned out to be a pretty good choice in a well-made Bluetooth cell phone headset.

When I first looked at the Motorola H500, it's price tag was in the $100 range, so it was easy to pass on in favor of wired headsets. But with the recent price drops, this unit is not only worth considering, it's now even lower priced than some of the better wired units that were former favorites. Considering that so many states and localities have laws against cell phone use while driving, this can be an excellent communication tool if used carefully and safely.

There are many brands and model out there to choose from, but the Motorola H500 is well worth consideration, especially in light of its excellent pricing. Once adjusted and positioned correctly to the ear, its overall sound quality has turned out to be excellent. Had held off on making a decision between brands and models mostly because I wear glasses, but after a bit of retail store test driving for fit and sound, found (like other reviewers) that this headset seems to settle easily to my ear and just seems to fit properly.

One way of looking at how well a Bluetooth cell phone headset functions would perhaps be to rate its use during everyday tasks or activities, so here are a few of those, along with my personal findings.

- Driving: excellent, quite functional, 5-stars.
- Walking: excellent, 5-stars.
- Cycling: excellent, low wind noise, 5-stars.
- Running: OK, 4-stars (felt like it might fall off).
- Computing: excellent, 5-stars.
- Sleeping: decent, 4-stars... hey, just joking here!

Don't want to go on a rant about driving while using a cell phone, but if you take the time to read your phone's manual along with the one for the Motorola H500, you'll find that you can use it with voice activated functions, so that you don't need to fool with cell phone dialing when driving. Just program your phone, say your party's name into the Bluetooth device and you'll be automatically connected.

Color selections - something for everyone:

- Motorola H500 Bluetooth Headset - Silver

- Motorola H500 Bluetooth Headset - Black

- Motorola H500 Bluetooth Headset - Pink

- Motorola H500 Bluetooth Headset - Orange

- Motorola H500 Bluetooth Headset - Teal Blue

Pros:
- Overall good sound quality, very little static.
- Comfortable to wear/use, has an ergonomic ear hook.
- Clean, streamlined design.
- Good range, better than some others.
- Bluetooth 1.2 means less interference & faster connections.
- Inexpensive, reasonably priced.
- About 8 hours talk time and 200 hours standby time on a charge.

Cons:
- Ringtone alerts, but that's a personal thing.
- Small volume controls.

Is this Motorola headset the newest, latest and greatest? Nope. If you want that, check out the new Jawbone II Bluetooth Headset by Aliph, but then check out the price on that unit and compare the features.

Summary:
The Motorola H500 is an inexpensive Bluetooth cell phone headsets, offering good sound quality, nice ergonomics, and better-than-average range. It's an excellent communication device, adding to driving safety if used carefully. If you're looking for a good Bluetooth headset at a reasonable price, it's well worth considering.

Update:
For those who privately asked, my H500 didn't come in a box. It came in a ziplock-style bag that was marked "bulk" on the label. It contained the H500 headset, AC charger, user guides and a "Motomanual." From all appearances it was brand new.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality, long battery life, September 24, 2008
By
This review is from: Motorola H505 Bluetooth Headset (Black) [Bulk Packaging] (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I bought this headset when it was new and pricey. It has held up quite well for several years. It has terrific battery life and it is ruggedly built. I think the sound quality could be a bit better, but is certainly very usable and, frankly, better many many other headsets that cost more. In fact, at its current pricing, the headset is a bargain. While there are better performing headsets on the market, you won't come anywhere near the H500's quality in its current price range.

The large answer button is easy to find, the headset has good range, and the soft touch ear loop is kind to your ear. I don't find that this headset works well with glasses, but your mileage (and ears) may vary. Try it in a store if you can before buying if you wear glasses. This is not a headset to use in a convertible, as noise suppression isn't very good. My primary complaint with this headset, and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5, is that the volume buttons are extremely hard to locate by touch, and hard to press without knocking the headset off your ear.

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs to be a little louder, September 15, 2008

This bluetooth headset is pretty good all around. My only problem was that in some situations it wasnt loud enough. Road noise drowned it out while driving.

Got the Motorola H505 Bluetooth Headset a few weeks ago and works fine...my only complaint is it keeps falling off my ear. My ear must be too small for it.

I have had quite a few Bluetooth devices in the past; this one is hands down the best. The process of paring the device was easy. It is very comfortable to wear. The clarity of the voice reception is excellent. People have told me the reception of their end is fantastic. All in all it is a wonderful product. I have recommended that my friends purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars Alfalfa's Bluetooth, December 25, 2008
This review is from: Motorola H505 Bluetooth Headset (Black) [Bulk Packaging] (Wireless Phone Accessory)
If you have big ears, by this I mean the part that literally sticks out of the side of your head, then this is a wonderful bluetooth. Bought the family 4 last year. Unfortunately, we are all on the smallish side of average when ranking the circumference of our ears. This device would fly off (usually into the passenger side or back seat) whenever our blindspots needed quick checking.

This is a terrific bluetooth with one large flaw! It functions perfectly (better than its replacement) and keeps a charge for a long, long time. The included directions for use are clear. Its only fault is the plus sized non-adjustable ear piece. I gave mine to an amply earred fellow and he LOVES it! Now if we could only find 3 more of these folks...

I only paid $20 for this headset. For the price, it was a great deal. The reception is clear, it's lightweight and compact, and a single charge will last many hours of use. I can't think of any cons and would have been happy even if I paid double the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars defective, November 29, 2008
This review is from: Motorola H505 Bluetooth Headset (Black) [Bulk Packaging] (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Black friday deal my @$$ This is not a good deal. $20 dollars for product, $8 dollars for shipping and handling, and the damn thing never turned on! I let it charge for the recommended 2 hours and the light came on to let me know that its charging and stopped when it was finished. But when I went to hold the call buttton like the mini user guide says...nothing happened. Tried everything all over again to no avail. I mean what the hell? I wish they would've told me that I was paying $28 bux to be a product tester from the get-go! I didnt recieve a manual either. Lets see...where the hell is the return section on amazon!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Huh?What?, November 11, 2008
This review is from: Motorola H505 Bluetooth Headset (Black) [Bulk Packaging] (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I bought this headset cuz it was cheap. I guess I got what I paid for. I cannot hear anything with this. I have the volume turned all the way up and still nothing. I think it's because this headset has a little speaker that sits on the outside of your ear. Nothing goes into your ear like some of the other models. Pass on this one, save your money for a better bluetooth ear piece.
