4.0 out of 5 stars Great holster - after some modding
Why complain about the tightness of this holster when it's so easy to fix?

This holster came with my v60 and I love it (now). I'd like to give it 5 stars but can't. It does need a little 'modding' to meet my standard of usability.

The Motorola V60i is a great phone (looks and feels cool too). Obviously there's something wrong with the design of the belt clip, maybe the plastic changes elasticity or shrinks after shipping or something.

Don't get me wrong, the clip holds very securely, too well in fact. It's next to impossible to get it out. First, it will catch on the back battery case and...

Why complain about the tightness of this holster when it's so easy to fix?

This holster came with my v60 and I love it (now). I'd like to give it 5 stars but can't. It does need a little 'modding' to meet my standard of usability.

I will admit, when I first got it, it was nearly impossible to remove the phone. I don't know what they were thinking but the top clip seats WAY TOO TIGHTLY for convenient removal. The battery compartment release gets in the way big time. Every time I took the phone out I almost disassembled it.

Why do I give it 4 stars then? Because, with a little modification, this is the best holster I have used.

The holster has clips on the top and bottom that fit into grooves on the phone. The top clip is way too long and in just the right place to interfere with the battery compartment release. What can you do about this?

All it takes is a pocket knife or any other utensil suitable for taking a bit of plastic off the top tongue. ...

As it comes, it's exactly the right size for the groove on the phone. But it's just too darn tight. If you shave it down just a bit and make some room for the battery compartment release it will work wonderfully. Didn't they test these things before they started mass producing? ...The entire tongue is shaved down a bit and the middle is shaved down further to avoid making contact with the battery compartment release which is not as wide as the groove on the phone. Make sure you take a little off at a time to avoid a loose fit. Even after this modification, the phone should be *very* tight. You shouldn't be able to take it off by pulling or even getting it snagged on something. However, it should come off with little effort if you push on the top tab on the holster.

Summary:
If this holster came with your phone or you like the style and you're willing to spend 5 minutes perfecting it, then you've got yourself a very usable holster. If you want perfection right out of the box then this holster is not for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars CLIP TRICK, November 13, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Motorola Holster for Motorola V60 Series Phones (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Just got this holster and, at first, was shocked that it appeared as bad as everyone mentioned in their online reviews. HOWEVER, there is an easy fix to the out-of-the-box tight fit:
The retaining clip is actually pliable (I think it acually has a steel insert???) and can be flexed upward to decrease the tension on the phone which will allow for a substantially easier release! Being right handed, I've found phone release is best accomplished by placing my thumb on the rubber dot on the upper back left of the phone (below the antenna base) and pulling the clip release (back & upward) with my index finder in one fluid motion while keeping my middle finger over the front of the phone so it doesn't pop out. Insertion is done in reverse...all in all it's not perfect, but not as bad as the other reviews indicate.

First, it will catch on the back battery case and attempt to pull the back off, then it will catch on the battery case release button and attempt to break that off. It avoid this, it usually takes two hands to remove the phone from the clip-- which is a real pain.

On the positive side, you can actually do everything with the phone still in the clip.. ..it behaves as an extended handle (if it isn't attached to your belt, that is!).

I can't imagine that shaving the clip will help, since looking at it's profile obviously the entire thing is too tight. Especially the comments about attempting to shape it higher in the middle, and what, leave 1/16" on each side to not break off later?

Disappointing..

2.0 out of 5 stars Holds too tight, sticks out too far, August 18, 2002

This holster comes with the phone, I find it hard to believe that the same people that designed this wonderfull phone came up with this...
The phone fits into the holster with a bunch of fiddling, you have to get the little grooves in the bottom of the phone lined up with the raised bits in the bottom of the holster. Takes me a couple of tries and works better if I can see what I'm doing.
Once the top is snapped in, the holster holds onto the phone with a death grip. It feels like something will break trying to release it.
To add insult to injury, the holster then holds the phone about an inch of my person. Why bother buying a tiny, thin phone just to have it stick out so far???
There's got to be a better way.

1.0 out of 5 stars POOR V60 HOLSTER DESIGN, August 26, 2002

THE HOLSTER THAT COMES WITH THE V60 PHONE HAS GOT TO BE THE WORST AND POOREST DESIGN I HAVE EVER SEEN. IT HANGS OUT SO FAR FROM YOUR BELT THAT IT GETS CAUGHT ON EVERTHING FROM DOOR FRAMES AT THE OFFICE AND AT HOME,TO BOOTHS AT RESTAURANTS WHEN YOU GET UP,AND THE SEAT BELT IN YOUR CAR.. NOW WHEN IT RINGS IT TAKES TWO HANDS TO GET IT OUT OF THE HOLSTER AND IF YOUR DRIVING!!!! WELL DO I NEED TO SAY ANYMORE... "O" THEN TRY PUTTING IT BACK IN,YOU HAVE TO HIT THESE LITTLE NUBS IN THE SLOTS,AND IF YOU DON'T GET IT JUST RIGHT IT WILL TRY TO TAKE THE BACK COVER OFF. I COULD GO ON BUT I THINK YOU GET THE POINT. COME ON MOTOROLA YOU CAN DO BETTER THEN THIS. THINK HOW GOOD THE STARTAC HOLSTER WAS..

3.0 out of 5 stars V60 Holster Holds only Baby Battery, April 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Motorola Holster for Motorola V60 Series Phones (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Unlike previous StarTack Holsters, this one will not handle the V60 phone with the extra-length battery pack. I'm not sure if the leather holster can contain it either, and no review indicates this. How odd that after purchasing the latest Motorola phone, and upgrading to their top-of-the-line battery, you discover that this detail was overlooked by the M-people. Do they personally use the prototypes prior to releasing?

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Motorola Holster for Motorola V60 Series Phones (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I struggled when I first had this because it did not come with instructions on how to insert and dissengage the phone, but once I figured it out, it's the simplest holster I've ever had...and also the safest. The phone has never popped out on its own and is easy to get in and out. Just put your thumb at the back base of the antenna and push the clip up and away from the telephone while pushing the phone out with your thumb in a twisting motion. The drawback is that it does not come with instructions. A elegantly simple piece of engineering.

Mine broke when my grandaughter fell on it but I'm getting another one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Innovative, hard to learn, but very secure, November 25, 2002
This review is from: Motorola Holster for Motorola V60 Series Phones (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I've had a Startac since 1998. If the StarTac clip can be considered ideal: secure, quick to holster, unholster, and easy to learn to use, the V60 base clip is a stinker. However, all is not lost.

Most concerning though, the V60 handbook mentions that the phone should be 1 ? inch away from the body to minimize RF exposure hazard. One reason, I guess, the phone sits a bit far from the clip.

Without modifications, you can un/clip this phone quick and snappy with one hand. Here's a sample wearing the phone on your left hip.

Clip the phone on your belt. The antennae is best perpendicular to your body's long axis: i.e., the antennae faces forward. Grip the phone in your fist. Put the thumb on the top release, the antennae should be above your thumb. Push the clip FIRMLY with your thumb. To replace the phone, place the rear [charger end] into the holster first, then snap the top into place.

The clip feels very secure, more secure than the Startac but at what price! That 'firm' push I mention will leave your thumb a bit sore if done repeatedly and if the plastic doesn't soft a bit with age.

If they didn't stop making the Startac and if the V60 weren't as close to the Startac in design and function, I wouldn't get this phone or its accessories. Who cares about black jack, Web surfing etc., on a form factor this small? Selectable ringer tones? Why pay for those features if the phone doesn't receive and send voice messages with the fidelity we expect from the Startac?

Well luckily, the V60 is a stellar performer, so my venerable and heavily damaged but working Startac is relegated to backup.
However, it will be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent little product! Five stars * * * * *, March 27, 2003
This review is from: Motorola Holster for Motorola V60 Series Phones (Wireless Phone Accessory)
It snaps on and off my Motorola V60g phone very quickly and easily. When it's attached to my belt, I can rotate the phone some to fit it just right. Also, when the phone is on my belt, I like having the top of the phone pointed to the side. That way I can easily snap the phone of the holster with one hand and grab the phone with the other. Furthermore, I put the phone with the holster inside my pocket and secure it there with the clip. Finally, if I want to use my phone to check my e-mail, change settings, etc., then the holster acts as a nice little stand.
I highly recommend this excellent little product. All the other Motorola accessories I have are excellent! No complaints yet!

Unlike belt clips for prior models that would constantly send the phone falling into things, this one does hold it securely. Almost too securely in fact. It also puts the phone at what I feel to be an ackward angle from the body. Getting better but not quite there yet.
