1st time nextel customer -shoulda done more consumer research before opening a business acct. w/them. 8 days ago we receive 1 i305 & 4 i205's. we paid the promo price of 24.99 for the i205's. i was warned by 2-3 friends that the plastic charger flap on the i205 was annoying because it wouldn't stay shut... we'll they were ALL correct! on all 4 of our i205's the rubber charger/plug cover just pops open - right after you close it. in addition it feels & looks as if the phone is all lightweight cheap plastic. the standard battery needs to be charged EVERYnight. it has not received any positive compliments yet from friends & other cell users. as for the i305 - it's the complete opposite of the i205 (but the battery like is aout the same, very short). we're keping the 305 & all the 205's are going back. haven't used them enough to comment on the clarity. as for nextel - that's a whole other talk show. i just wish i would have done a little more comsumer research before i signed the bottom line.

Pick Nextel and You'll have 1-2 years of pain, misery & nashing of teeth!,

Besides having the walkie-talkie which is publically annoying, the customer service is terrible and they should be ashamed of themselves. Pick another service while you can get out alive. I am stuck until Aug 06 . . . God help me!

Nextels best basic phone,
This review is from: Motorola i205 Phone (Nextel) (Wireless Phone)
I have had this phone for about 3 months, and it is a pretty basic phone. It is very durable, I have dropped it too many times to count, and it only has a scratched screen so far. You have to pay Nextel if you want to add applications, ringtones, or even the speakerphone, but if you have the knowledge and a piece of software called Motorola RSS, you can edit the phones codeplug and unlock the speakerphone, or use WebJAL to add ringtones and apps.

I had one of these for over a year, until I finally lost it. Great phone, never gave me so much as a moment's trouble in all that time. No, it doesn't have a camera or a color screen or games, but if all you're looking for is a basic, no frills phone, look no further. Calls were crystal clear, Nextel has very good service, at least in Philadelphia. Also, like almost all Nextel phones, this thing is a tank. I dropped it more times than I could count, at least twice down a flight of stairs, and it never got so much as a scratch on it. All in all this phone is an excellent choice for a first time cell phone user, or for that rare breed of person who just wants to use their cellphone to make PHONE CALLS.

i love this phone. it works great to have a phone that is just that.. a phone. I did not want to spend a lot on a phone - diffently not on a phone with a lot of features i would not use nor need. So this is a great phone for basic use.... normal calling and 2 way..

Value for the price, but some glaring weaknesses too,

Since it's often been one of the 1-cent or no cost phones available with Nextel plans, you can hardly beat the price for entry to the world of cell phone ownership. BUT, you may find the annoyances of using the i205 significant.
The monochromatic display is small, crowded and hard to read in many lighting situations. Menu navigation is not at all intuitive. I find that the volume control and assignable ringtones don't allow very much choice if you want to be able to both hear and identify by tone, the calls you receive. Granted I get calls in some particularly noisy areas, and I have the ears of an over-thirty-year-old, lol. It's getting harder and harder to find good cases for carrying clunkier phones such as the i205. Yet, stow it in a purse or pocket, and the ringtones will never be heard, or (if you set it to vibrate) the phone's vibrating will be totally useless. It's a relatively simple and straightforward phone, but some newer, smaller phones (mostly from other carriers, sadly) have larger buttons that are better-marked, even though their form factor is smaller than that of the i205.

Warranty? What warranty?,
This review is from: Motorola i205 Phone (Nextel) (Wireless Phone)
I had been very happy with my Motorola phone until the battery started losing its charge within a day, even when the phone was turned off. The friendly but incompetent customer support kept me on the phone for an average of 40 minutes for the repeated calls trying to figure out the problem. After the phone had finally been sent to their technical service center, they returned it to me that the phone was irreperable "due to customer abuse." I have done nothing to that phone that could have caused any damage (unless using it to make phone calls counts as "customer abuse"), but got the same comment, without explanation after I had sent the phone in for a second time for reevaluation. It seems that Motorola is just trying to get out of fixing or replacing the phone free of charge under warranty. You'll be fine with a Motorola phone as long as it works. After that, you're on your own.

Bad Product,

I got this phone for a back up and it's not even good for that. VERY cheap plastic, creaks like an old wooden floor. The DC speaker has loose parts in it so when I am in a DC conversation there's so much rattling it makes it hard to hear. The Charger port has a cheap rubber flap covering it that won't stay shut. There's a horrible tick sound in the background on all my calls that I have never experienced before. The battery lasts me a day if I don't use the phone, with minimal use I find it dying long before the end of the business day. I'm very glad my i710 is on it's way because this thing is just junk. You definitely get less than what you pay for with this item. Many of my friends have left Nextel because of the poor product Motorola is putting out for them. This phone is no exception.

First of all, a few answers;
1. Nextel service CAN be rolled over to another company, Nextel reps gotta deal with idiots who dont deserve to have service with them. 2. If you leave Nextel 1 day before the end of your contract, YOU ARE CANCELLING SERIVCE!!! DUH! your leaving the company, aka, CANCELLING. This applies to ANY COMPANY WITH A CONTRACT. 3. Customer Service at Nextel EASILY outdoes Verizon, T-Mobile or Cingular. Any problems I had with Nextel, they fix or reimburse. 4. If there is no service in your area...why buy a phone in the first place? 2 year contract, 1 day left...yet JUST now complaining about service? you should have noticed that from day 1, sounds like your just mad about the $200 cancellation fee FOR CANCELLING...lol. 5. Direct Connect didnt work for you? maybe learn how to USE IT. Now, on to the 205. This is an excellent phone, many great features and an absolute MUST for a first-time buyer of cell phones. For those of you who dont know, this phone was made FREE by Nextel after the Hurricane disaster for victims trying to reach their families, as well as discounting monthly rates for those families. So for those of you trying to insult Nextel or their service, shove it, you dont know anything. |
