5.0 out of 5 stars The best case I have found so far!
I have puchased several off brand cases for my Razor, but was never satisfied with them. When I received this one, I wasn't too thrilled about the bulky belt clip (which would be great for someone who wear their phone that way), so I took a razor blade and carefully cut the stitching that held the whole clip to the case. It removed very nicely, only leaving a few small...

The second customer picture shown is not correct.
You need to stretch the upper screen protecting case out before sliding it on or it will force the side volume and recording buttons to stay pushed in. This case is very hard to get on and off I thought I was going to break the phone. The Belt clip does stick out and the reason for that is Motorola guidelines for signal radiation. The phone should stick an inch out from your body -I believe this is pretty slandered with all phones. The whole screen gets protected but only the numbers on the key pad are protected -Not the upper on/off/message buttons etc. They are not. When you take photo's the top connecting strap must be moved out of the way or it will show on the side of the picture. This is an okay case for the money. It does it's job but could have been designed alot better.

The main problem with the case is the belt clip. Rightly it can be removed, but it leaves a big button on the back that you can do nothing about. If you buy this case you double the thickness of the phone!

1.0 out of 5 stars Who designed this thing?, February 10, 2006
This review is from: Motorola Leather Case with Clip for the RAZR V3 (Wireless Phone Accessory)
This is a horrible case for any phone, and I strongly suggest not buying it.

It is difficult to put on and take off. You have to use force to put it around the bottom half because the microphone part sticks out. Even the top takes a bit of force to get on.

Also, after not even five months of usage, the sides are starting to wear thin.

This case is a horrible fit for the phone. None of the holes in the case line up with the holes on the phone, making it look like it has on it's little brother's clothes.

It is also more difficult to hear with the top half on. I don't even use the top part anymore. I also took off the clip, but left the rest of the bottom part on so it has a softer landing if I drop it.

And the part on the top half that snaps to the bottom half gets in the way of the camera if you're not holding it with your finger.

Once again, I ask, who designed this thing?

I give it 0.9 out of 5.

Did someone actually try this case out after they designed it? When I got my new Razr phone I was very happy to see a case for it on sale. I ordered it, received it quickly and tried it out. Then I realized what a piece of junk this case was. It did not allow the phone to close completely which caused the display lights to remain on. This, of course, will drain the battery.

First, I purchased this "case" expecting, now that I've learned the terminology, a "pouch". It's not a pouch. It's a leather and clear plastic glove for your phone.

I think the main reason for purchasing a Razr in the first place is because it's so slim. This case makes the phone 50% thicker.

The case is a little too snug and I think I scratched my phone up trying to get it on. I don't know for sure, because once I finally got it on, I didn't want to risk taking it off again to see the damage I'd done.

One of the reviewers said that there shouldn't be any problems if you just take a hairdryer to the leather to make it soft and pliable before you try to put your phone in it. It's a great idea and would have made things easier for me. Why doesn't Motorola write that on the packaging?

Another drawback is that the plastic seems to absorb facial oil and there's always a haze/glare on it, making the screen hard to read sometimes.

If you feel you need something to really protect your Razr, then this would work, just remember to warm up the leather before you try to put it on.

I waited patiently for more than 2 weeks to get this cover and it turned out to be an absolute disappointment. It is very very tight and you might end up scratching your phone urself and damaging it while trying to slip it on. It looks great in photo but is not in reality. Its a damn disappointment that the most popular phone in US does not have a great cover available anywhere.

2.0 out of 5 stars Topless works best, October 25, 2005
This review is from: Motorola Leather Case with Clip for the RAZR V3 (Wireless Phone Accessory)
So, I agree with most of the negative comments regarding the case. I also think that there is a way to salvage your investment. The bottom covers most of the important parts and does support a clip which allows you to keep the phone on your belt while using all of the cool bluetooth features. Topless does let the 'ex-appeal' of your phone show itself. It really is a beautiful electronic device!

If the case were designed to cover all of the bottom then it would work for me in my fast-n-furious not to be bothered world.

WRITTEN 011006/SEE UPDATE BELOW

I recently got a Razr phone and shopped around for a case for two reasons. I wanted to protect the phone and I wanted some way to carry it on my belt...the pocket thing just doesn't work for me. I was, initially, concerned that the Motorola case left one half of the hinged area of the phone uncovered. I thought this would be a negative but it hasn't proven to be an issue. I must admit I would prefer if this open space was covered with some leather though.

Others have commented on the fact that the case is tight. I don't see how it could do its job over the long haul if this were not true when the case is new. Leather tends to stretch a bit and to form to the object it covers; so expect it to be snug when putting it on initially.

I didn't have the problem with the case engaging the side buttons as some have noted here. Of course, I understood the characteristics of leather (see above) so put it on a time or two with the phone off to break it in a little. If necessary, warming the leather/plastic a bit with a hair dryer will make it more pliable for this first installation. (Just a little now you don't want to melt/burn anything.)

Others have also mentioned that they didn't like the fact that the belt clip holds the phone out from the body a bit. At first I thought this would be a problem but it has been relegated to the 'non-issue' realm for me. I must say though that the belt clip does have a down side. The upper portion of it where you squeeze to open the clip to put over your belt is a bit sharp. If I happen to be wearing a shirt out this sharp area can be noticeable against your skin, especially when seated. It is also worth mentioning that when inserting the phone into the belt clip be sure you hear it 'click'; otherwise it is not secured. Initially, it took some deliberate action to accomplish this due to the stiffness of the mechanism. After a few days the reassuring 'click' is easily generated as everything settles in.

The only other complaint I would register, and it is a small one, is the fact that the seam on the upper portion of the case; where the plastic is sewn to the leather, isn't the best of fits. This area tends to pull up a bit creating a little ridge that sticks out from the phone/case normal contour. It just isn't the smoothest edge. This may flatten out some over time and isn't really that big of a deal. I believe the reason for this happening is, again, due to the snug fit. Because of the torque involved here this small ridge is formed and it tends to pull the small holes in the protective plastic (for hearing the audio) out of alignment with the speaker holes in the phone just the slightest amount. I have not found this to impair the auditory delivery.

I suppose it would be better if there were a clear plastic piece covering the outside screen, but there isn't. This is another 'non-issue' for me because I use PDA screen protectors on all of the screens on my electronic items (after destroying a LCD on a metal button), including the Razr (both screens). I have them on my cameras, PDA and phones. They only cost a few cents and, if damaged, are easily replaced.

If I had paid the list price for this case I suppose I would be griping about all the minutia that could be better; but I didn't and I won't. It's not perfect but is a pretty good case for this phone and I love the smell of leather in the morning. (011006) {:<>)

UPDATE AFTER FOUR MONTHS!

I initially wrote a review for this product in January. It is now four months later (051306) and I thought I would give a bit of an update.

All of the comments that I made in the first review remain valid. I have had none of the troubles that have been enumerated here concerning too tight of a fit or unsatisfactory performance due to the holes in the case being placed in the wrong spot.

The only event of notice since my first review is that the knob for placing the phone in the belt clip started to separate from the bottom of the case. I noticed this but wasn't overly concerned because it didn't appear to be in danger of catastrophic failure. Well, I had the phone attached to my belt while sitting in a rocking chair and when I got up it caught on the chair arm and ripped it loose. The phone/knob was hanging by one edge of the leather covering.

While the above noted problem was disconcerting it was my own fault for catching the phone on the chair arm. No case would have been able to stand up to that level of abuse. Fortunately, it was quickly remedied by reattaching the knob to the case with some quality glue. The same glue was used to smooth down the leather covering over this portion of the mounting base for the knob. Unless one looks very closely it is not readily noticable and the case, as a whole, continues to fulfill its function. I still consider it a decent product for the money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cases are Far and Few Between, August 14, 2005

I guess you can call me one of those paranoid types. When I first got my RAZR, I thought that it was the coolest looking phone out there, but I knew that it would be a scratch magnet. When this case is wrapped around the phone - there are some open areas, but it does serve the purpose of protecting the majority of the phone. It comes in two pieces with a button on the back connecting them. I also wonder why the keypad protection only goes halfway up. The other thing is - the belt holster is actually sewed into the back of the case. I personally think this totally goes against my motivation for buying this phone. The holster on the case makes the overall bulk of the phone two times bigger. I ended up taking a knife to the thread that held the holster to the case and am now relatively happy with it. You don't get to show off the coolness of the RAZR anymore, but you will have alot more peace of mind knowing it won't get all scratched up. This case is essential for anyone who cares more about minimizing scratches - if not then just save that money towards getting a bluetooth headset.
