3.0 out of 5 stars MA581 5.8 GHZ Good phone not enough features for the price, February 25, 2006
This review is from: Motorola MA581 5.8 GHz Analog Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System (Silver) (Office Product)
Purchaed this phone a few days ago, charged it up and found it worked fine. Good reception and very usable, but it simply lacked too many important features. First it does not have a standby screen on the handset. You cannot name the handset and the only time any information appears on it is when it is ringing or when you are talking on it. The screen on both the base and the handset is small and difficult to read. There is no beep or flash on the handset to tell you when the answering machine has a message waiting for you. The answering machine does not tell you how many messages you have it only has an envelope that flashes on the base when there is a message. It has very limited ring tone and ring number options. On the base in standby the day of the week and the time shows in the middle of the CID screen, but on the one we had it was off center and tilted to the right. For the price this phone did not match up. However if you are just looking for a simple phone that has good reception and a decent answering machine then this would probably work for you. We returned ours and found a better one.

An excellent phone combo. I'm not sure why the "charge" light is on 100% of the time for the hand set. Most of the sets (V-Tech) I use do not show the charge light on all the time. When using with a Win-based scrip-dial, the hand set does not respond as well as a plain and simple Pnasonic model like their "Advanced ITS" set (I have four), but it handles other features very well. Looks good. Feels good. Nice distribution of feature-set.
The speaker on sound returns the dial tone a bit lout but that is compensated by the quality of the transmission. An excelent buy at a discount.

3.0 out of 5 stars Alright but no real range for a 5.8 Ghz, June 26, 2007

The phone has a couple of good features. But is missing some notable ones from its predecessor, like speaker phone. The phone has great difficulty with ranges greater than 2 to 3 rooms away, which should be handled with ease. Pay less than $40 and the phone is worth it- otherwise, give it a big PASS!
