We use two way radios for mountain biking. Because I'm hearing impaired, and can't use my hearing aids while riding, it's been frustrating because the poor sound quality of all the radios we've had in the past made it hard for me to understand what was being said even when I held the radio right up to my ear. I tried wired ear buds but the wires were always getting in the way and the sound quality was still poor. We got these because of the Bluetooth feature in hopes that using a Bluetooth device would make it easier for me to understand speech. On our first ride, we attached the radios to our handlebars. Even without the Bluetooth, I could clearly understand what was being said without having to remove the radio from the handlebars. I probably won't need to use a Bluetooth device although it's nice to have that option. We also transmitted without removing the radios from the handlebars. Even without bending over the radios picked up our speech without a problem. These radios are slightly bigger and heavier than the cheaper talkabouts. They come with the usual belt clip. A nice attachment feature are the small metal bars on each side of the screen. These allow you to attach the radio to pretty much anything using whatever kind of strap works best for you.

I love the way this MU350R looks. The specifications are also quite impressive. It has the features of my personal favorite, the Motorola MT352R Motorola MT352R FRS Weatherproof Two-Way - 35 Mile Radio Pack - Silver.
Please read my review on that radio and the MR350R and the MS350R. I have had them for several years and actually have them beside me as I write this review.

Before I begin, please understand that all Handheld radios typically do not go much further than a mile for handheld to handheld transmission unless you are using repeaters. or are on a very high elevation away from any interferance.

I was actually expecting this to perform just as well as its brothers but I wanted to be sure so I proceeded to test it side by side against the MT352R which is a comparable model.
Here is my side by side comparison between them:

1. Menu Features - They have very similar features. But the MU350R has Bluetooth. They have iVox and Dual channel watch.

2. Battery - They have the same battery and charger. Specs say it has 15 hours of battery life. But in the field, I have never been out longer than 9 hours, so I do not think this really matters as much.

3. Size - The MU350R is hands down the better radio for carry. The MT532R is long and wide, whereas the MU350 is svelte and sleek. The MU350 design is excellent if you intend to put the radio in your pocket. You will not even know it is there.

4. Weather resistant - They both say that it is Weather resistant. It has an IP-54 rating. The "5" is the dust resistance and the "4" is the Water resistance. This just says it can withstand a dusty or rainy environment.

Don't kid yourself - you will never see anything near 22 mile range from these radios. Perhaps if you are in a weather balloon 22 miles up, or are on the surface of the moon - but on this planet, if you realistically get a mile range, then consider your situation fortunate. What you are buying is a $25 pair of FRS/GMRS radios that will pair up to a Bluetooth headset and that convenience will cost you $100. The radios are unnecessarily large. We sell commercial Kenwood and Blackbox two-way radios that are smaller, more rugged and much more capable, other than the Bluetooth feature.

We've paired these MU350R's to Sena SMH5 and SMH10 motorcycle BT headsets and they work fine. These headsets use the Bluetooth headset profile (HSP).

These radios are not manufactured by Motorola, but the name is licensed and they're made in China. If you're not planning to use the Bluetooth feature of these radios, save yourself some dough and buy something just as capable for a lot less $.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Our family has gone through several iterations of two-way radios in the last few years, and we've largely been disappointed by just about everything that we've used to this point. The range is usually not the worst part of our past experiences, it’s usually cheap feeling devices that don’t stand up at all. These Motorola two-way radios have been far superior so far, and far exceeded our expectations.

First, just taking out of the package (although admittedly I hated them to begin with, because of the blister packing) you could tell that they were solid devices. They had a little more weight and a more professional feel than other home-use radios that we've used. I love the battery packs that plop right in, and the rechargeable feature should be the universal standard, if not already. I also love the y cable that charges both at the same time. Where was that feature just a couple of years ago?

Battery life is impressive. We have not been able to run the batteries down during one day of use, and my kids are more than happy to push battery use, over and over and over again. They also leave them on all night and then pick them back up the next morning and keep talking. So far battery life has been outstanding.

We've taken it out into town (you should see the looks we get at Costco) and have never had a problem with short-distance comms, even in crowded areas and even in areas where the frequencies potentially are saturated.

Finally the range. To be clear – You are NEVER going to get the 35-mile advertised range that’s on the box. We live in a mostly urban environment. Our small apartment is on the 12th floor, so the very first time we tried them out we sent the boys out the door and down the street. No issues whatsoever with clarity.
