So you all are aware, I do not own this item but am looking to. I've read several reviews related to this product and the following might help clear things up.
There is both a 2.5 mm (used for the old, wired, single ear piece, mono-sound, hands free of the past, which I like) and a 3.5 mm (almost every other type of headphone including walkman, bose-style, ipod etc. Wired, dual ear-piece, stereo-sound, plug-into-the-airplane style jack) plug sizes. The 3.5 mm adapter will allow you to use your razr (or whatever other phone with the same female receptacle) basically as an mp3 player or walkman. It does NOT act as a hands free device used to answer the phone. Other reviews have said you have to unplug it in order to answer the telephone while listening to music. The 2.5 mm adapter will allow you to answer your phone hands free with a wired, single earpiece. This is my way of clarifying some of the confusion in one single review. I have no idea if it actually works. From what I can tell, it works great for some, not at all for others. I figure hey, what've you got to lose for 5 bucks??? I purchased this product for my wife so she could use a wired headset instead of a blue-tooth enabled one. (She'd forget to keep the blue-tooth one charged.) I purchased a Jaba Over the Head headset with boom microphone to go along with this adaptor. This is the same headset I bought for my Motorola V551 flip phone. It works like a champ with my phone in the car. Much better than my blue-tooth, hands-free car system. I figured she'd have the same results with the headset so I purchased this adaptor to go from the 2.5mm jack of the headset to the mini-USB connection of her RAZR phone. This combination of wired headset and adaptor does work - in a manner of speaking. You can hear through the earpiece and speak through the microphone. However, the amount and volume of interference picked up by the adaptor and the wire of the headset from the phone itself renders this setup unusable. I do not know why they ever produced this adaptor and why they still sell it. I'd be interested knowing if anyone has ever had any success with a wired headset for a Motorola RAZR. My opinion: stay away from this setup.

This product did exactly as promised. I purchased for my Motorola Razor, V3m to use with a Platronics 2.5 mm stereo headset. Perfect stereo sound with no shorts.
