An Excellent Phone with Solid Features,
By Hasan al-Basri "hasan" (Ogden, IA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Motorola w755 Phone, Black (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I spent 4 hours reading reviews on various cell phones, including two hours on the W755, before buying.
Overall, I couldn't be more pleased. I upgraded from an LG phone that was just over two years old. Several of the W755's features are one's that I either did not have available on the LG, or were ones that I was not impressed with on prior phones. What a pleasant surprise the following were: 1. The speaker phone works very well. I had seen reviews complaining about the speaker phone function. Compared to the LG, this thing is paradise. It has plenty of volume and does not suffer from severe distortion. 2. Voice command: excellent, even without training. Most of my calls are made using voice command. I did learn over past years to enter names in my contact list "phoenetically", in other words, spell them out according to how they are most likely to be pronounced. 3. Verizon: a very nice utility to save your old phone's contact list to a web site, and then after activating the new phone, download the contact list to the new phone. Worked perfectly, first try! (also Auto-updating if you make future changes on your web-site contact list) 4. MP3 Player: worked better than I expected, even through the speaker phone. The free download of V-Cast Rhapsody software works very well for getting cuts from your computer on to the phone. I have a large MP3 collection and doing playlists on the computer and then drag/drop that playlist onto the W755 is as simple as it can get. (requires downloading and installing the proper motorola usb drivers...follow the Verizon V-Cast Rhapsody links...DO NOT go directly to Rhapsody, as you will end up with the wrong drivers and software not customized to the W755) 5. Camera: requires a steady hand and fluorescent lights require adjustment of color balance. The pictures are usable, but not up to "real" camera standards. 6. Blue Tooth: a very big surprise was the ability to send pictures wirelessly to the local Wal-Mart Kodak Picture Maker. 7. Blue Tooth Headset: I got two Motorola H710 headsets. They paired easily and work phenomenally well. The phone/headset pairing is remembered and initialized automagically, so future uses require no intervention other than opening the boom on the headset (assuming you have Blue Tooth turned on in the W755) 8. Ergonomics: fits the hand well, nicely reinforced hinge compared to the Razer. Larger buttons than I was used to (a real plus) and tactile feedback of button presses is welcome, as well. The display is large enough to not stress my aging eyes. Fits in my shirt pocket easily with two pens and a penlight, even with the double capacity battery. (I know, nerdy!) 9. Display Schemes: while several are offered, the "Youth" selection produces a clear, attractive and readily readable display. 10. Ring tones: I found a utility to send ring tones to the phone, and several sites that allow free access to ring tones, and one particular site that creates a ring tone from user entered text and generates morse code ring tones. I now have every person in my contact list set to spell out their name in morse code when they call. (obviously of limited utility to non-radio amateurs, but worth a mention) 11. Interfacing to Computer: the USB to mini-USB data cable has worked properly with both V-Cast/Rhapsody (for transferring MP3 files), and the aforementioned utility for moving ring tones to the W755. Auto-updating contact list via the web site works amazingly well and quickly (this is done via the wireless phone itself, no data connection required). Cons: 1. Vibrate is weak. Not a factor for me, but I doubt it could ever be heard on a couch...I could just barely tell it was vibrating on a glass table, in a largish living room. 2. Memory card storage is inconveniently located under the battery compartment. Since I have a 2 gig card, I don't have much need to move it in and out of the phone, but it still isn't a great place to locate the card. Summary: I got two phones, one for the wife, who is NOT easily pleased. We are both happy with all aspects of the phone, as noted above. It is the best cell phone we have ever used, much less owned. Highly recommend both it and the Motorola H710 headset.

Best phone I have ever had!,
By
This review is from: Motorola w755 Phone, Black (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I have used cell phones from the days where you carried them in a separate deticated briefcase. I have had a lot of them, I normally have two at a time, one for business use and one for personal use. This is the best phone I have ever had. I just traded up from my Motorola RAZR V3m, which had a lot of flaws (see the Amazon reviews). The w755 has fixed all of the flaws of the RAZR and then some.
As I see it these are the main PROS: Quick on and off. Excellent sound quality. Great battery life. Perfect size. Easy to use menu system. Perfect external button placement. Excelent build quality. Beautiful exterior finish. No Cons so far!

Great Phone!,

I absolutely love this phone! I've had probably about 8-10 different cell phones through the years. And this is the best phone I've had so far, in my opinion.
It's sleek and slender, yet not flimsy and fragile like the Razr. It's much more solid and stable. I can hear things wonderfully on it, including with the speaker phone. And people on the other end can hear me clearly as well. It has an array of great display options to choose from, allowing you to choose the style of your menus, etc. The camera takes pretty good snapshots. It's a comfortable grip in my hand, and against my ear. It was pretty easy to figure out all of its menus and capabilities. AND it's a good looking phone too! It comes with an option of downloading music, allowing MP3 player capabilities too. But I haven't bought or used this option in order to review how the music quality is. However, I did buy a couple of ring tones, and those songs play pretty nicely. I would definitely recommend this phone.

Pros: Nice looking, simple, intuitive design, sturdy hinge, big buttons Good sound quality and volume (regular and speaker phone) Rubberized outer coating: grips well, no finger prints or fine scratches Smart buttons on outside to set vibrate only, bluetooth, and music player Video camera, music player, and nice touches not usually seen on inexpensive phones Cons: Camera quality is poorer than it should be SD card is under the battery Has mini-usb connector. Almost all other phones have switched to micro-usb Main volume controls both call and ringer volume, can't set separately (AFAIK)

I got this phone after losing my Samsung SCH-u410. At first I thought it was huge (compared with my Samsung), and the grip (because of the way the phone flips out) was a little odd. BUT...After two days, I was totally in love with it! Great reception! REALLY LOUD ringtone! I can now hear when my phone rings. The music feature is excellent with excellent sound! It's sleek, it's stylish, and it's sturdy. I had a biking accident at around 40 mph with my phone clipped to my belt. During the accident, the phone came out and I landed on it. It did have a few scratches and some dirt on it, but it was still in perfect working condition. I love it!

This is a great cell phone. It has all the basics covered well. Great reception, great ear piece volume and crystal clear calls. It has some extras as icing on the cake but I don't want to talk about them as this phone needs to be appreciated for what it is- A GREAT CELL PHONE!!!!

Skip this phone,
This review is from: Motorola w755 Phone, Black (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I bought this phone after reading the many glowing reviews all over the net. However, I found myself sadly disappointed. I won't get into anything too technical, but here's the skinny: this phone is unreliable, it frequently freezes when I try to check my text messages. The battery life is very short. The reception is....well, it's ok. People often say they have trouble hearing me when we talk on the phone. There are some very strange glitches with the text messages. Someone will send me a text message, I read it once, but then the message disappears. it shows that i received a message, and shows who it's from, but the message itself is gone. Or a message i sent to someone else will show up in my inbox, as coming from them. Weird stuff. It can also take a while to turn on. it doesn't sound important, but sometimes u need that quickness.
It's really not a terrible phone, it's just that I encounter frustrating difficulties that I never had to deal with on any of my old phones, with verizon and cingular. But I do often have more bars than my friends do, that may be due to the verizon plan, I don't know. the keypad is also very comfortable, as is the feel and design of the phone. It's a good looking phone, and it's not too big or bulky. In light of the pros and cons I would simply call it this: a mediocre phone, somewhat unreliable, with a battery life that is only decent. Not recommended.

The telephone works for us.,
By
This review is from: Motorola w755 Phone, Black (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
My wife and I recently upgraded from Motorola V325 to a pair of W755 phones. I did read some reviews prior to purchasing these and read of short battery life. I purchased the phones anyway due to some of its other features including the connection for an external antenna. We have found the battery life to be more than adequate and go for a number of days before charging them. The reception and features of the phones work for us. The camera is much better than many phones and if I want real photography, I use my digital camera anyway. We also like the external antenna connections that are built in to the phones because we need to use an external directional Yagi antenna at our camp in the Adirondacks to get any cell phone reception. We connect the Yagi antenna by the adapter cable to the phone connector inside the back case below the rubber plug in the bottom of the case. I would buy this cell phone again.

Better than expected,

I just completed a two year contract with an LG8600. That was a decent phone with no complaints except the small numbers but that is somewhat standard.
To me a phone is just a phone and not all the other bells and whistles you can get. This w755 is more than a cell phone as was the LG; however, again it is a phone only but when needed the other features are there. The phone part works so much better than the LG did. The sound quality and volume control is several points above the LG. Dialing is a tad easier with the raised characters. I am not enamored with the menu system but maybe I can tweek it to do better. Not a big deal now nor do I expect it to be one later. Picture taking is simple and that's good. I can even do it. If there is a need to add anything later, I'll do so; however, for now it is a 5 our of 5 and although there are others that will do more they cost more. This cost zero. Not a bad number. I'd love to have a Blackberry or an iPhone but I do not need either.

Don't go from LG to MOTO,

If you have previously used an LG, this is not the best choice of phone to change to. It's EXTREMELY slow and not to mention irritating for impatient people who text way faster than they type... like myself. The phone itself is awesome. The reaction time of buttons while texting and playing games sucks. OH! and IT DOES NOT REMEMBER NEW WORDS FOR MORE THAN A DAY! I wish LG would come out with a great flip phone again. Too bad they got rid of the VX8100 and VX8300
