Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

If you thought the RAZR V3 was cool, you'll love the latest addition to Motorola's line of super-chic, super powerful phones, the SLVR L7. Packing all the great functionality of the RAZR V3, plus a few more bells and whistles like removable memory, the SLVR L7 adopts a thin, candy-bar form factor that is sure to turn heads. The SLVR L7 also adds support for iTunes, allowing you to play, sort, store, and manage your music right on the phone. With long-range Bluetooth, support for video playback, a VGA (640 x 480) camera, and a gorgeous color screen, the quad-band SLVR L7 is a great way to get the most out of your Cingular service.

The plot thins: The SLVR L7 is less than half an inch thick (black version shown). See it in 3D (Flash).
Design
At less than a half-inch thick, the SLVR L7 redefines the ultrathin phone category. A large 176 x 220 color display with 262,000 colors resides above the handset's backlit control pad, which is precision cut from a single sheet of nickel-plated copper alloy. The VGA camera lens is housed on the rear of the phone, while up/down buttons are placed on the left side. There's also a highly accessible mini-USB port on the right side of the phone for data synchronization and music transfer, as well as a covered slot for inserting a microSD or TransFlash memory card. The phone comes pre-installed with a 512 MB card--plenty of room to hold up to 100 songs.

Calling Features
The SLVR L7's internal phone book can hold up to 1,000 contacts, and the phone's picture ID system allows you to assign pictures to your most common callers. It also supports polyphonic ringtones as well as music ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone, and more ringtones can be downloaded from Cingular Wireless's MEdia service. And for times when you want to be discreet, there's a vibrating alert. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear, and voice-activated dialing makes calling your friends, family, and associates as easy as saying their names.

Because the SLVR L7 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total hands-free operation.

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The SLVR L7 is a messaging and wireless Internet powerhouse. Support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, sound, and video via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in still and video camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging is supported via AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and ICQ, and the phone also ships with a built-in e-mail client with support for POP3 and SMTP protocols (Cingular messaging charges apply). Plus, there's a built-in Web browser for MEdia downloads and mobile Web browsing. Cingular's MEdia service lets you receive and send e-mails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. iTap text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier to enter words and text on handsets, is built in to the unit--a plus for mobile e-mail and text messaging users.

The SLVR L7 seamlessly connects to iTunes software on your PC or Mac. iTunes software on the phone gives you complete control of your music.
Getting on the Internet is easy with the SLVR L7, as it supports Cingular's GSM-based Wireless Internet Express service. When used with a Cingular data plan and the phone's Bluetooth or USB data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the SLVR L7, including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a calendar, and an alarm clock. Use the phone's Bluetooth capability to set up a wireless link with a Bluetooth accessory or to connect to a computer or handheld device to exchange and synchronize data. The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard, which can be used with Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools PC application to manage and synchronize contacts, calendar, and other data with your PC.

Imaging and Entertainment
With 5 MB of internal memory storage, plus a memory expansion slot, the SLVR L7 shines in the entertainment department. The phone's VGA camera features a 4x digital zoom, as well as video capture capabilities (up to 30 seconds in length). Capture stills and then send them to your friends via MMS messaging or e-mail, or to your PC via USB or Bluetooth. The phone is capable of MPEG4 video playback when you receive a video message or if you upload video to the phone via USB or Bluetooth. The SLVR L7 also supports custom graphics for wallpapers, so you can dress up the phone to suit your mood.

At its heart, the SLVR L7 is a music phone, and thanks to integration with iTunes, it makes a great digital music player. Using the included software, sync the SLVR L7 with your iTunes library on your PC or Mac and listen to up to 100 of your favorite songs while you're on the go. iTunes software on the phone lets you shuffle your music library or select songs by artist, album, or playlist. Built-in stereo speakers let you listen while you work or play, and a stereo headset jack makes it easy to jam out in private with the included earbuds.

Last but not least, support for gaming is built into the phone and games are available for download via the Cingular MEdia service.

Vital Statistics
The Motorola SLVR L7 weighs 3.5 ounces and measures 4.5 x 1.9 x .45 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 6 hours of digital talk time and up to 17 days of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS frequencies. The phone comes with a one-year limited warranty.

Product Description

It’s amazing how something so thin can still be so reassuringly sturdy. Motorola L7 is a mobile marvel sheared to a sophisticated 11.5 mm thickness. Yet its large 176x220 TFT display with 262K colors is a feast for the eyes.

First of all, pink just makes a Mamalinde happy. After spending WAY too much time on the phone with Cingular in a long and drawn out "upgrade" request and after being promised the phone twice and having it not shipped as promised, I had about reached the point of switching carriers and stopping the torture. But, I finally got my phancy pink phone and it was worth the wait. Where to start? How about with one thing at a time, which is how I managed the learning curve on this pheature laden phone

Address Book: It is huge. And ... I was able to move the card from my nokia so I did not have to rebuild my address book, and I absolutely love the one button, voice call feature, though there is a limit to how many names can be loaded in. The button is conveniently located on the right side of the phone, just say the pre-recorded name clearly and that number will be dialed for you automatically. I use this a LOT. Recording the name took a bit of practice, but gets much easier.

iTunes: I selected this phone not just because of the color, but primarily because of the built-in iPod. I am a daily bus rider it seemed to make more sense than the cumbersome CD player that required batteries once a week and the awkward changing of disks - not to mention a LOT more space in my purse. The download was really pretty easy, but I had been using iTunes on home computer for some time so I had a familiarity with the program. Sounds as good as the CD player ever did, and the shuffle songs feature gives a nice variety of about 100 songs - way nicer than the CD player. A phone call will interrupt the play, but then the music will go right back to where it was. I can also listen to tunes without using the headphones, which I find handy on my morning bike rides. The speaker is just loud enough but I can still hear traffic and I'm not being too noisy. The model phone I have will not allow you to take an iTune song and make it a ringtone.

Camera/Videocam: I did not expect to use this feature very much but it has come in quite handy. Setting it up to be able to e-mail the pictures/videos was a real hassle and there is a charge (but Cingular is patient and persistent), but using the cameras is very easy. Actually my 9 and 10 year old nieces have taught me everything I could possibly need to know, and have a delightful time making 20 second videos (see mamalinde on youtube for some delightful examples of their genius). Easy to make a picture into a screensaver too, right now it is a pink peony.

Mobile e-mail. This feature is a good one to have, but a bit cumbersome and slow. It took over an hour on the phone with Cingular to get this set up but we finally got there. I get a notification beep everytime I get an e-mail, which is a bit distracting even with a good junk philter on that address. And the attachments, links don't work on the phone. It is nice to be able to confirm that an e-mail arrived or to check what may be stacking up when you can't get to a computer.

Text messaging. Okay, get past it. Not just for teens and young folks, if this gramma to text message, so can you. Besides better manners than talking it offers a bit more privacy when riding the bus or out in a crowd, and sometimes a reminder in writing is much more effective and can be stored if referring back is necessary. If your kiddo can't talk right now, you can STILL communicate with them! The Quick Note feature, where you can store repetitious messages (check e-mail, thank you, ok, call me, where are you, yes and no), this is very very handy and quick. And sending and receiving sweet nothings with the phella, well, that will keep you young.

Ringing/Vibrating. Using this feature is easy. Just the up and down sound buttons on the upper left portion of the phone will move you from ringing volumes to vibrate (or silent).

IM. I haven't used this yet. Hmmm. Maybe it will be next?

Internet. This can be customized to your demands, mine gives me local weather and news. I find it hard to search for something specific, but it is very handy to have access to news stories or the weather radar. Maybe I should play with this a bit more?

In sum I have used this phone for several months now and find it quite worthy of a Princess like me. It has also been dropped a couple of times onto cement, with no harmful effect except for some scratches on the pink paint. The petite size is phenomenal, especially considering all the pheatures and it's a showstopper too. Everyone who sees it wants one!

Great phone December 6, 2006
The texturized buttons don't bother me; in fact, they seem to keep my fingers from slipping when I dial. The color is great (getting lots of compliments). Lots of storage for numbers. The camera feature takes clear pics for a cell phone. It has an alarm clock in the tools section, which I like to use when I am away from home. The battery standby time is really long. Several days go by before I need to recharge. This is my first phone with bluetooth; it's easy to use, but it takes some getting used to. The phone has speaker too. I am getting great reception and others tell me that I sound more clear than my old phone. The phone is easy to navigate; you can even program the buttons to have the function you want if the preprogrammed ones don't feel natural to you. The music capability is convenient, the phone came with the appropriate cable to hook up to the computer to download the songs. The screen does get smudgy, but it is very colorful and clear.

Great phone January 11, 2007
I bought an unlocked SLVR L7 Pink phone and it is really great. My son liked it so much he bought a black SLVR L7. I really don't have any complaints other than my Phone service doesn't support the phone at this time and I can't get any downloads, but that doesn't have anything to do with the phone itself.
