5.0 out of 5 stars Great Headset!, April 2, 2007
I purchased this headset a week ago as a companion for my H700 bluetooth headset. The phone I am using is a Motorola KRZR k1m. After a week's worth of pretty rigorous use, I have the following observations to offer.
My primary areas of interest in a bluetooth headset are size and weight, clarity of the call, talk time, comfort, quality, reliability and ease of use. Although this unit is expensive, cost is not a concern for me. I have to say that this headset has delivered so far on all of the above. The unit is very light in the hand and not much heavier than my H700 model. It also doesn't feel heavy on the ear. I called numerous people to test the overall clarity of my calls and received thumbs up as far as clarity goes. Everyone could hear me and I could hear them very clearly as well. The elevated speaker fits nicely in the ear so you don't have to turn it up very loud to hear. The earpiece is comfortable around my ear but I know that one size does not fit all so Motorola has included two addditional earpieces that can be interchanged to fit your ear size. The headset feels very solid and well made as far as quality goes. I like the idea of a sliding earpiece which extends outward when you press the call button. It's also very attractive to look at and the design is stylish, although this is secondary for me.
I have not had any issues with dropped calls or static, etc. with this headset so I consider it to be reliable so far. As for ease of use, it's quite simple to use and no more difficult than any other headset on the market. Even the "easy pair" was just as the name implies and doesn't require too much technical knowledge. The only thing I'm waiting to address is the call time of this headset. I charged it once when I got it and it's still going strong after about one hour of talk time a day over the last 7 days. So I figure I'm at about 7 hours of talk time and no sign of the headset needing a charge yet. So my unit exceeded the standard talk time of "up to 6 hours". Hopefully it will come in at the 8 hour range. I'm not a heavy user of the headset unless I'm driving in the car which is where I tend to use it the most. The only area of concern I can find about this headset is the fact that it does utilize a "micro" USB charger rather than a "mini". The headset comes with a home charger unit in the package plus a "micro" adapter you can use to adapt any other standard mini USB charger you might have laying around. Although quirky, this is not enough to make me downgrade my rating. It's worth mentioning again that Motorola does provide two additional ear pieces to swap out. Overall, I'd give this unit a 5 out of 5 and would recommend it to anyone willing to spend the money.

2.0 out of 5 stars GREAT concept, hardware unreliable, July 24, 2007
By Siddharth Shetye (California USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I got this back in March07, when it was just released for about $90. At that price I expect this headset to work SOLIDLY. I found out that it's best feature (slider) turned out to be the worst 'feature' due to a hardware/firmware bug.

Pros:
1) Its a slider, so you can have it on your head, in OFF position (saves battery). When you get a call, press the main big button on the headset, the headset opens, powers up, connects to the cellphone AND picks up the call in about 4 secs. This is GREAT because you can turn on the headset ONLY when talking and its off at other times --> AWESOME battery life.
NOTE: You can turn off other moto headsets (eg. H700) between calls and still leverage the great battery life. But those (flip headsets) can't be worn on the ear when off. Only this one (slider) can be worn on the ear even in off position.
2) Super fast re-connect times (see above). Most other headsets take so long to re-connect the caller hangs up/goes to voicemail.
3) Good battery life, GREAT if you slide close during other times.
4) Decent voice quality

Cons:
1) Ok, this is the 'failure' I was talking about. After 2-3 months, my headset would remain on, even if I slided it shut! Sounds like a small problem but its really annoying because it drains the battery and the call button (main button) on the headset is active. So if I accidently hit that button (eg. headset in pocket, I get into the car) it redials the last number and you don't even have a clue. I tried several things like draining the battery->recharging, closing/opening the slider carefully etc, but it's ALWAYS on now, 24/7. So I control the headset by turning on/off Bluetooth on the phone --> a pain!
2) Voice quality slightly poor when headset and cellphone are NOT on the same side (eg. cell in left pocket, headset on right ear). My cell is a Motorola razr and I didn't notice this on my headset (Cardo Systems SCALA 500). BTW, the Scala isn't better than the H800 overall, it's just I never noticed this specific point on the Scala.

If Motorola can improve the reliability of their product, this is a great one, 5 stars for sure. But for cutting corners even on a premium product, for poor reliability, I'd give this a 3 stars. Maybe even 2.

Right now my headset is due to go back to repairs to Motorola. They've told me it will take 2 days to get a repair number (their systems are down right now), 1 week for me to ship to them, 3-4 weeks to repair, 1 week for shipping back. Totally I'm looking at 5-6 weeks without my headset for no fault of mine. This experience after paying for a premium headset, not a cheap Chinese knock-off.

I guess that confirms this to be a 2 star product experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice, May 12, 2007
By Let Him In "JW" (Columbus, OH United States) - See all my reviews
After all the different BT headsets I have tried, I found that Motorola and Sony Erricson had the best as far as holding a connection without the crackling when my arm or body got between my phone and the headset. To me, that means the most, along with the ability of the headset to stay on my odd-shaped ear.

Well, usually I had found that Sony's would be even better than Motorola's, but with this headset, it has performed better than any Sony I have had and tested. And the 3 different ear hooks to choose from is such a nice additional feature. I finally have a headset that I can shake my head or move it fast in any way, and it is well-fastened to my ear, while still comfortable.

The battery life is great, but good battery life is pretty much a standard nowadays. It charges very quick with the wall charger it comes with, too. Can't say enough about this product.
