This modem worked fine for the first 3 months then have had disconnection issues the others are having.
Chris A. Miller
The cheap plastic case has no ventilation, and even after breaking it apart and attacking it with a power drill, it's only moderately less prone to locking up.
Troy Wood
I can't understand why AT&T would offer this modem for the last two years knowing it is a piece of garbage.

I had the same "burn out" problem with the first 2210 issued to me by my DSL provider--thing burned out about 11 months after I got it...just in time to barly make the 1 year warrenty. My Dad's 2210 is now having the same problem--stays on 10 to 20 minutes before going belly-up and I'm sure it will soon just stop working like mine did. He'll have to have it replaced. Too bad the DSL provider keeps sending the same hunk-o-junk to it's customers! Buyer beware, indeed! I'm actually afraid the thing is going to have a melt-down & start a fire. I wish Amazon would allow zero stars, or better, negative stars because that's what I'd give this piece of trash.

I am on my second failure with this modem. They run very hot and them fail. I am trying to get my DSL provider to give a different one as these are not good. I do not want to go for three.

Our first unit was dead on arrival. AT&T sent a second one, it worked for about a year (but we noticed it ran hot). Then it stopped working. By the way, to everyone else who has one of these, we found that you can get it to keep going with a fan running underneath it. But all that says to me is "lousy thermal engineering". I expected much better from Motorola. If you don't have to have this modem, don't get it.

My provider gave me one of these devices a few months ago and the device is already failing on me. The provider will give me another one for free if I renew my contract for a year, but after seeing the other reviews on this device I told them I'd rather look at other options.

As previously stated, these modems are overpriced hunks of junk that self-destruct within a month of their warranty running out. They're also the *ONLY* modem that AT&T will provide, and the last time mine broke they charged me $60 plus $100 more for an in-home visit because their techs weren't competent enough to diagnose what was wrong over the phone. We're now on our third modem and have to routinely leave it unplugged and/or spray it with an upside down can of compressed air to cool the thing down when it locks up (which is usually 2-3 times per day). The cheap plastic case has no ventilation, and even after breaking it apart and attacking it with a power drill, it's only moderately less prone to locking up. I'm seriously worried about this thing catching fire one night and burning my entire apartment down.

If you get stuck with one of these, turn it in to AT&T a few months before the warranty is up and get yourself a new one, regardless of how it's functioning. It's the only way to be sure two months later you won't get stuck having to buy a new one, plus whatever additional charges they can think up.

I had this modem, but it died after 1 year. This modem runs very hot, which could possibly contribute to the premature failure. Would recommend buying a different one - if you have to get this one then make sure to place it where it can get plenty of ventilation.
