This is a nice way to charge the Xoom.
John Adams
A swappable plastic piece allows it to fit a Xoom with or without a gel case, but either way docking is difficult, even after using it for 2 weeks.

I like that I can put the xoom on the dock and not plug in the charger.

What is it with Motorola -- do the product engineers ever really do usability tests on their designs?

Per my previous review on the Motorola portfolio case for the Xoom, this dock is well built and seems to be of good quality. It comes with an AC adapter which you can also use as a spare to plug directly into the Xoom itself. The dock also comes with a 'shim' that allows you to dock a Xoom that has the "rubber ring" protector installed.

The process of docking the Xoom is somewhat fiddly -- there are no real good landmarks to line up the connectors. However, when you find the correct spot, it plugs in easily enough.

Once docked, the tablet is fairly secure and not prone to tipping over.

However, because the Xoom is so upright when docked, the angle is virtually useless for easy swiping, tapping, and typing. That's a shame because an otherwise nice design only ends up being useful for looking at the Xoom's screen -- not for actually doing any work.

I strongly recommend against purchasing this product, as it is very easy to damage your Xoom's mini-HDMI port, but very difficult to actually dock a Xoom. The dock uses the mini-HDMI port as the only mechanism to help you align the zoom correctly from left to right. Getting the angle front to back is difficult enough, but getting the position right to left is almost impossible and you have to move the Xoom a little left to right to align it. But doing so gradually damages the HDMI port, especially if you think it is aligned and push down when it is not perfectly aligned. You can use the charging light on the Xoom to align it to a gray dot on the dock, but remember the charging light will be unlit until you dock, and when unlit it is only visible in a well-lit room. A swappable plastic piece allows it to fit a Xoom with or without a gel case, but either way docking is difficult, even after using it for 2 weeks. I bought a good portable stand instead, and just set the Xoom on it and use the normal charger, and it works much better and is adjustable and no damage occurs.

The title/description and pictures make you think you are getting the dock AND power supply cord. This is not the case, all you are buying is the dock. This is very misleading in my opinion. The reason I bought this was because the stupid pin Motorola uses to connect to the Xoom for charging broke. Hopefully this will prevent someone else from getting stuck.

Pros: It works and charges the Xoom. Devices drops onto dock and pulls off of dock as one expects. No sticking, the dock is weighted appropriately. Headphone plug on the dock.

Cons: No speakers, no usb, no flashing lights, does not do the dishes.

What's with all the whining on here? For the price, it works great and does what it's supposed to do. I have no problem docking it. It does have a white dot in the middle to help you line up the charging led on the bottom... perhaps that's new and added recently. It's built well and works as described. I also have no problem typing while docked. The dock has a heavy weight inside and stays put. A great (not perfect) accessory.

Does the job, it seems like a good build quality, however i really wish it had a rail or grove that lined up the xooms usb and power plugs with the dock. I have to really be careful when putting the xoom in the dock to get everything to line up. I feel like ovet time this could easily dammage the usb plug in the xoom itself.. not many other options, so it does thr job and works.. its also heavy enough so it doesnt lift with the xoom when u pull it off the dock, as long as you pull straight up.

As others have pointed out this device is a CHARGING STAND with no docking capability what so ever.
Initially it was 'difficult' to seat my Xoom properly, but after a few days of use the Xoom now drops right down onto the dock with no apparent adverse wear on the Xoom's microUSB port. I exert no pressure to seat the Xoom, its own weight will seat it to the stand when properly lined up.
My use of the Xoom now consumes the daily charge so I've started to use the Xoom as my alarm clock and wanted the Charging Stand (its not a dock!) to hold the Xoom nicely on my nightstand and charge the device over night.
On your initial uses be sure to line your Xoom up properly and avoid exerting too much force. The design of the Charging STAND can facilitate the damage of the microUSB port on the Xoom - so be careful. I have to remove my Xoom from its rooCASE Executive Portfolio (Black) Leather Case Cover with Landscape / Portrait View for Motorola XOOM Android Tablet case before placing on the charging stand.

My ease of use is now four stars after a week of use, but its initial difficulty to seat requires me to rate that as a one star.

My tips would be:
* Practice placing your Xoom on the charging stand a few times before really using it. Place the stand on a kitchen counter or table so you can more easily see what's going on.

* Examine the microUSB connector on the Xoom device periodically.

* I've seen others recommending a slight tilt forward, backward or to one side for placing. I don't. I keep the Xoom flush to the supporting back of the stand and hold and manipulate the Xoom from its bottom edge, not the top or sides.
