I purchased these radios for a trip from Wisconsin to Arizona. My wife and I were driving separate vehicles and wanted to be able to be in touch. The radios performed exceptionally well, even when on occasions that we were out of sight of one another. Batteries lasted for the whole trip which totalled about 28 hours and still show ample power. They are easy to use and well made.

All I can say this is a great product. It is well designed, looks great, easy to use, has great features, great reception. I am a student studying to become an engineer and I often look at products and find flaw after flaw. I often look at a product and find dozens of things they could change or improve. However, in this case I am completely satisfied. Not only do the two way radios work well but they are a very resonable price. Also, these radios have subcodes which give you all the channels you would ever need. I took them on a 6 day backpacking trip in yosemite national park, and they preformed very well. My groups at times split into two groups, and they were very useful to keep us in contact at all times for safety and comfort. They were also useful at keeping the people in front in contact with the people in back. Saved a lot of yelling, miscommunication and stopping. My buddy and I in front were able to radio back how to cross a stream, where the downed tree was etc. Great for someone scouting ahead. Once again 5 stars!

I bought a couple of these 5420 2-way radios. I must say they performed way above expectations. The battery life is good and the range in the open is excellent (personally tested up to 2.5km). Within the city, I could get my friend in the hotel room 1.5km away. For that price & performance, I don't think you can get a better deal anywhere else.

I have used 2-way radios without subcodes and I must say it is a joy not to listen to the constant chatter all the time. Highly recommended.

I bought a pair of these a couple of months ago, mainly to keep in contact with my kids while they're out in the neighborhood playing. The sound is incredibly clear...no static what-so-ever. One of the best features is the sub-codes. I haven't had any interruptions while talking to my children, thanks to the sub-codes! I haven't really tested the range but, my daughter did walk to a little neighborhood store about 4 blocks away and we had no problems at all understanding each other, or interference. Another great feature is the keypad lock. This prevents the channels from accidently getting changed while being in a pocket, bumped, etc. If you're looking to buy FRS 2-way radios to keep in contact with your children while they're playing out in the neighborhood, the Motorola Talkabout 5420 would be an excellent choice, and I highly recommend it!!

I have an older pair of Motorola radios. Decided to get two more and went with a pair of T5420. Everything is great EXCEPT I see that the battery door design is now different and more flimsy. BOTH of my units had the same problem. Mine came with a rechargeable battery pack. With the battery pack installed, a tap on the back of the battery door with a finger makes it pop off. My kids wouldn't make it out of the front yard without it falling off. It would probably work better with normal AA alkaline batteries, but why supply a battery pack and charger if I can't really use it. Other than the battery door, good product. But because of that, I'm returning mine.

We purchased these radios for our move from Idaho to Arizona. The seller got them to us in plenty of time (as stated) even though we had purchased them late.
We used them throughout our trip and found them very satisfactory for such use. Never had a problem communicating and only had to change the channels twice due to heavy traffic in heavyily populated areas.
We used alkaline batteries and they are still working after nearly two weeks after the move.
We found them user friendly and very easy to carry.

Excellent quality, durable, good range, clear signal. We've been very happy with these. We mostly use them when my husband climbs on the roof to do something like reposition the satellite dish or other thing like that where one of us needs to be in the house and the other needs to be on the roof. I'm afraid of heights so I never "need" to be on the roof but he goes up and snaps one of these to his belt. He can hear me and talk back (in a nice way) without having to hold it which is especially nice when he's on the roof. As I said, its clear and has good range so we're quite pleased. It fell onto the driveway from about 10 ft up at one point and survived the fall but I don't recommend doing too much of that.

I bought the pair of these radios hoping for a 1/4-1/2 mile range in the city. In my neighborhood, which has trees and is on a slight hill, I don't get that. If you want an intercom to keep in touch with someone at an event when you are separated, or doing work when two of you are not in the same location and you have to coordinate activities and you are nearby, ok. But I was disappointed that I couldn't use this like a cell phone at the range stated...

Took these on a little road trip from New York to Florida..they worked great and allowed us to communicate from a decent distance between the two cars.

The only downside is that these are popular and often times you will pick up other people. The solution is to just change to a different frequency, otherwise a great buy at this price.

This set works well and voices come in clear. I keep one in house and husband keeps one on him while on the farm.
