4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price
First, if you buy these make you you get the ones with rechargeable batteries, you will save the price difference in two battery sets.

We bought these to communicate while visiting Disneyland. While the range is not amazing (especially in the first channels which do not require FCC permit), reception was clear from one side to the other of the park...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for ski trip
I got them mostly for being very light and small. In the city it worked up to 1/5 of a mile, you can connect a bit more but hear only static. On a ski resort it only worked within the same building/lodge; you cannot connect to another radio even on the same side of the mountain. I'd return them, but as they are so small and sleek, we lost one on the second day.

Construction is solid. I dropped mine pretty hard and was amazed the radio did not even get a scratch. Battery lasted two whole days of heav use. My last more, but since they are so easy to charge I did not get to test that.
Good buy, I do recommend them.

Fast Service and great price! Work great for about a mile or so but then I got them for shopping with my wife, she is at one end of the store and I am at the other.

This is the second time I've purchased this particular product. Unfortunately, last summer one fell in the pool and that was the end of that. We live in a small neighborhood on a dead end street with lots of kids. When I send my kids down to play they attach this to their pants with the belt clip or put it in a coat pocket. When it's time to come home or I want to check up on them, I just give them a call on the radio. I also use it when my kids are sick. Their bedrooms are upstairs and if I'm downstairs doing laundry or working on the computer, they can just call me on the radio rather than yelling which isn't something they like to do when they are sick! Great for what we use it for.

This is an outdated model. If you find someone selling it in the original unopened factory package beware. The rechargeable batteries may have been sitting around unused for years. There's a good chance they are dead beyond resuscitation. I got my radios to work only when I put in standard nonrechargeable batteries but by the second day the speaker on one of the units gave out. I dont think I got more than a half hour of use out of these units before throwing them away. My kids have some toy walkie-talkies from Lego that are made better than these!

4.0 out of 5 stars Seem to work as advertised, October 1, 2007

I got these for my kids, but they haven't used them as much I thought they would. Maybe I remember the old walkie talkies when I was kid and thought I used them more. At any rate, they seem to be clear for a good distance, but we live in a hilly area, so I don't know how far they can go. I can use them around my 1.5 acre property, though.

4.0 out of 5 stars It works, July 16, 2007

This set, though only 50% more expensive than my grandaughter's stinking Barbi walkie-talkie, actualy works rather well, though set the volume to 15 and leave it there. It works better outside of a car better than in side one. Range is basic line of site to 5 miles, but rapidly drops off if hills or buildings get in the way. I'm very satisfied, so is my grandaughter.

2.0 out of 5 stars bad audio quality, June 20, 2007

transmitter audio quality is bad...people say it's hard to hear what I'm saying. Older motorola or newer uniden are much better.

first, why does it say : BE THE FIRST
to REVIEW this item ?
18 others reviewed it, i saw all that
and based on it, bot this item.

sorry, but at least the 2 units i got
are pure junk.
open road, nothing in line of sight,
max it works for is about 300 yards.
thats it.

it s a toy.
changed to many brands of batteries,
sony, energizer, new alkalines
and 3 other brands of NimH fully
and properly charged batteries
so
one cannot blame it on batteries at all
i got more batteries now
than most people have in their homes.

too bad,
was hoping for at least double that distance.

300 yrds in open field.
inside apt or house, max is about 4 floors, thru
the floors
inside elevator, whre you really might need it,
it wont work...
most mob fones wont, either, unless
the elevator has been specailly wired up.

thats that
treat as TOY
if you get more than 300yds
you are lucky !
maybe yours are very diff from mine
internally.

tks
k
