A great little router,
By A Customer
This review is from: Motorola WR850G Wireless Broadband Router (Personal Computers)
I was skeptical of buying this router. Primarily because I couldn't find any reviews on it. But I like Motorola products. I decided to buy it. I must say that this router is great. It's small and stylish so it doesn't take up a lot of clutter. It has a lot of features such as port triggering and virtual servers and parental controls among all the other features you would expect from a wireless broadband router. It also includes WPA support with either TKIP or AES encryption.I also get excellent signal and quality throughout my house. Too bad the other manufacturer's don't make routers as good as this one. So if your looking for a stable router, you can't go wrong with the WR850G.

This is a great router especially if you have more than one. This router is one of the few within its price range that supports WDS bridging. I have one connected to the cable modem and the second one is connected to my ReplayTV over a WDS bridge. What this basically means is that my wireless network is extended via wireless connection. It's a very nice feature. The only thing I do not like about the router is that it doesn't support DHCP static address assignment. This was not enough to lower my rating for it though.

Motorola, you did a great job again!,

After my lengthy research and many reviews I have read, I decided to go with Motorola and I'm so happy for that! The configuration wizard makes the setup very easy, especially web-base interface. It has a full load of security feathers, which if you don't really care it, your life will be easier. But I'm kind of a guy who wants to utilize all the feathers it has, so I played around with it. It took me a little while since I don't have much knowledge of networking and try to get to understand of what feature does what. But eventually, the security setup went so well.Range depends on the location of the unit. For my place, there is no choice I have to put it against the wall but so far reception is good even if it has to pass all 5 walls to my bedroom! This is so cool. I put it next to 5.8GHz phone and tried to jam it with Bluetooth device (2.4GHz) but it doesn't seem to have problem at all, only a noise level increase a little bit. I've been online for hours already and it is so stable. My card is Motorola's WN825G... they make great couple.

I've had the router for about a month now and it has worked very well. Setup was simple and the interface is better than the other routers I've had. I'm using a Motorola WPCI810G PCI card on my PC, and a WN825G PC card adapter on my laptop. Nice strong signals, no tweaking or resets have been required.

Not bad but it can be frustrating,

If you don't know what you doing this router can be a nightmare. Like was mentioned by other users, this router can be very instable due to buggy firmware ver. 5.xx. The solution seems to be the 4.03 firmware version. After the firmware downgrade no problems. Good security options, good range and signal strength.

I thoroughly investigated networking and routers before this purchase. I am glad I did, because I love this router! It was easy to install and works great. It has great range. I have it networked with a desktop on my second floor using the motorola pci adapter and the connection is great, 38 to 54 mbps. No problems so far. I had to call the motorola help line to configure my adapter card to the router and the csr was a great help. Got me going by configuring my security settings and away I was. Bonus, help line speaks english! I am very glad I went with the motorola networking products!!

Did research a year ago and thought I'd get Netgear, when wife got laptop then I read reviews and got Motorola. EZ to setup, remember to reboot, and works like a charm throughout our 3 story house, even the basement, and the unit is based in our 3rd floor attic. I also went for the Motorola wireless notebook card. The Cnet ratings, rate this the top and no doubt it is.

Excellent decission,

Yes, i made an excellent decission. The router worked right out of the box with no problems. It's easy to install and you even get the UTP cable needed to plug the router in the PC. The only thing missing in this first step was the manual installation guide, that is supposed to be printed and it just wasnt there.I tried to use the automatic installation but it just didnt work. And it also didnt say WHY my PC wasnt compatible, but i thought that was a mistake. So i read the pdf guide for manual installation and everything worked like a charm. One word of notice: i was expecting the router to connect to the internet right after pluging the router, but it doesnt work that way. You first need to configure it. After everything was installed, i turned on my two wireless machines (one with a standard wireless nic) and they all connected with no problems. I know motorola isnt known for its wireless broadband products, but it they really work perfectly well.

I bought the WR850g 6 months ago. The user's manual is well written, and it is easy to set up. The security options include WPA and mac address control. It has worked flawlessly with my OSX Powerbook and WinXP laptop. The security protocol set up is a little confusing, and the manual needs more examples. You should also check Motorola's website for firmware updates.

After a horrible experience with Linksys, this router works beautifully. I am not a computer geek in any shape or form but the set up for this went quickly and smoothly. No problems whatsoever.
