This is actually named the "Netopia 3347-02-1006" wireless gateway just to be clear.
I had been wrestling with frequent dropouts using my 2Wire AT&T gateway which only carries a 1 year warranty and was giving me fits. I ordered the Netopia for about $80 and it arrived rapidly. I was a bit concerned about setup with AT&T, however, it was VERY simple and I was off the phone in 5 minutes. It has been rock-solid on the ethernet ports with no dropouts in the several weeks I have been using it. Wireless setup was also super simple. I am totally satisfied with this purchase!

Verizon DSL Customers...HEED THIS ADVICE!,

If you are a Verizon DSL customer, you will probably not be able to connect immediately to Verizon DSL service with your new modem, due to their WAN IP Lease expiration issue. However, after disconnecting the old modem and waiting for a few hours, the lease on the WAN IP should expire and the Verizon server will issue a new WAN IP to the new router. From that point on the auto-configuration worked like a charm for me. My advice: 1) don't call Verizon customer service - they are clueless about this issue 2) don't call Motorola customer service - they told me that the router just does not work with Verizon 3) disconnect your old modem the night before your new Motorola shows up. That way you are ready to go immediately. After this issue resolved, no problems, works great.

Received Motorola gateway right away within a few days. I was replacing a 2wire gateway that was purchased from Embarq several years back. The 2wire gateway was junk and I had problems with it throughout its lifetime, replacing a power adapter, repeated bootups, etc, etc. The 2wire finally became so slow that it felt as though we were on dailup again. My suggestion is to never buy a 2wire gateway! So far the Motorola gateway seems to be functioning without any problems. I researched several gateways online and by far the Motorola gateway was the best bargain. Hopefully it will last longer than two or three years. Only time will tell!

After considerable research, I ordered this combined router/DSL modem/switch/gateway to replace a DSL modem and a wireless router that I had had for several years. I'm very happy I did. It was amazingly simple to set up. Took about 15 minutes to connect all four computers on my home network, three hard-wired and one wireless. The supporting software provides for an overwhelming number of settings and a vast amount of information about the status of the network. Great product and great service from Amazon.com (as usual)...

After years of owning units from Netgear, Belkin, Linksys, Dlink, 2Wire, Westell and Zoom and always being frustrated for lack of performance, I went for this after extensively reading reviews, opinions, and specially forums from DSL Reports. Despite the lack of Wireless-N (which I imagine will come in future products and I do not need now) this is the best product I have owned for serious home networking with a DSL internet link and wireless. Professional setup (either with a Wizard or Expert mode) that allows you to customize the gateway to your needs. Awesome wireless transmission power, embedded firewall, advanced networking services, fully manageable, etc. This is not a toy-level device you buy in a store. It is a powerhouse for serious networking, for serious people that need reliable connections all the time, either for work or entertainment.
In a sentence: WORTH EVERY PENNY ! THANKS NETOPIA (now owned by Motorola). |
